Metropolitan Steam Boiler Suitable for Pressure Jet or Rotary Cup burners Oil, gas or dual fuel firing Outputs 1845 - 21 700 kg/h 1 Metropolitan - Steam Boiler The Metropolitan is a range of high pressure conventional three pass wet back steel horizontal shell and tube steam boilers, utilising a combustion chamber and two passes of tubes. The boiler is available in sizes ranging from 1845 21 700 kg/h (from and at 100ºC feed water temperature) and is suitable for firing on natural gas, LPG and oil with a choice of burner manufacturers. The boilers are supplied fully packaged for ease of installation and only require connection to electricity, water, steam and blow down lines. General Description The Metropolitan range of steam boilers is available in outputs up to 21 700 kg/h. The boiler has a high water volume and large steam space, which allows it to satisfy high steam demands for short periods and minimizes the formation of water droplets. The boiler has a low heat release rate, due to the large heating surface, which helps to reduce emissions and improve the efficiency. Metropolitan steam boilers have a standard working pressure of up to 10 bar, but higher pressures are available on request. The boilers have a typical efficiency of up to 90% across the range, based on a net calorific value of the fuel. In some cases these items are supplied loose for site installation. The internal parts of the boiler are easily accessible for cleaning and inspection, by opening the two front hinged access doors. This gives good access to the front tube plate and the second and third pass boiler tubes. The boiler is supplied with a set of cleaning tools. Metropolitan boilers should be installed in accordance with relevant standards, codes of practice and current building regulations. Water treatment is recommended for all steel shell and tube boilers and a water treatment specialist should be consulted for advice on this matter. Design & Construction The Metropolitan is a range of three pass wet back horizontal shell and tube steam boilers. The boiler design incorporates a corrugated combustion chamber, which helps to reduce thermal stresses during expansion and improve overall efficiency. The boilers are manufactured using flanged tube plates, which also reduces thermal stresses during the combustion process, The boilers have a large surface of evaporation and a large steam space which provides high quality steam. They also have a generous shell and furnace size, to ensure boiler outputs are easily achieved. The boilers are insulated with a high density mineral wool blanket, enclosed in a sheet steel casing. All Metropolitan steam boilers are designed and manufactured, inspected and tested as required by the relevant provisions of the Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/ EC and also in accordance with the EC type - examination certificate (module B). The boilers are CE certified. Boilers manufactured and constructed to EN 12953 are available on request. Metropolitan steam boilers are subject to X-ray and ultrasonic testing and they are hydraulically pressure tested in the factory. A burner is normally supplied and matched to the boiler to give either high/low or fully modulating operation, which ensures optimum operating efficiency to suit specific requirements. The burner is bolted to the boiler front plate and pre-wired to the control panel. The boiler control panel supplied satisfies all mandatory requirements and is generally located on the side of the boiler, but in some cases depending upon the burner specification and size, it may be floor mounted adjacent to the boiler. Boiler control panels can be supplied to meet customer requirements and generally include, alarms, relays, switches and feed pump motor starters. The panel is pre-wired and connected to level controls, pressure switches, feed water pumps and other ancillary items located on the boiler. Volt free kits can also be supplied, details available on request. The control panel requires a 400v 3 phase electricity supply and is supplied with a suitable fused isolator. Ancillary Mountings The Metropolitan steam boiler comes fully packaged and is supplied with the following standard fittings: •C ast Steel Crown valve •B low down valve with key • t wo high lift safety valves • t wo reflex type water level gauges, complete with blow down cocks •P ressure switches for control of high/low and modulating burners •S afety pressure switch •T wo low level safety probes •T win feed water pumps (on /off control), strainer, feed check and non return valve •P ressure gauge •P robe type on/off water level controls •B oiler control panel •T op inspection opening & hand hole inspection covers •L adder and Gantry The fittings are all mounted on the boiler and are pre-wired and piped accordingly in the factory. The water feed pumps are fitted to the boiler support brackets and can be located on either the left or right side of the boiler. However this needs to be specified at the time of order. An additional range of boiler mounted accessories are available, including: •T imed bottom blow down valve •S elf monitoring water level controls •A uto TDS system •S ample cooler •M odulating feed water control • Invertor driven pumps and/or burners •F lue gas economiser •B urner acoustic shrouds •P M5 panels (Supplied loose for remote mounting) Composite Waste Heat Boilers Metropolitan steam boilers can also be manufactured to a composite design, utilising waste heat from another heat source such as a Combined Heating and Power plant or an industrial process. This type of steam boiler is normally fired on gas or oil using a burner as the primary heat source, but it has an additional pass through which waste heat gases flow. The waste gas gives up its useful heat to the boiler when available and it is then discharged into the flue. In some cases the waste heat gas may be the primary heat source, with oil or gas burners used to top the system up when required. Boilers of this type are designed specifically to suit site and system requirements and are available on request. 4 Technical Data & Dimensions Metropolitan steam boiler Metropolitan Model Boiler Output (kg/h) * Boiler Output ( kW) Dimensions, weight & capacity A B C D E (straight valve) E (angle valve) F G H J K Approx. dry weight (kg) Flooded water capacity (l) Efficiency based on net CV Efficiency (%) @100% load Connections Steam outlet (mm) Blow down (mm) Feed water inlet (mm) Safety Valve (mm) Safety Valve outlet (mm) Combustion & Flue Data Flue diameter flanged (mm) Gas flow rate G20 (m³/h) Oil flow rate (35 secs) (l/h) Oil flow rate (Heavy) (l/h) Flue gas volume (m³/min) Comb. chamber resistance (mbar) 1000 1200 1500 1750 2000 2500 3000 3500 4000 5000 6000 1845 1163 2225 1395 2780 1744 3255 2035 3690 2326 4620 2907 5535 3488 6510 4070 7380 4651 9225 5814 11110 13020 14755 16600 18445 21700 6977 8140 9302 10465 11628 13953 2400 1200 2280 4100 2560 2700 2450 1500 865 750 2000 6500 5940 2400 1200 2280 4100 2560 2700 2450 1500 865 750 2000 7100 5805 2500 1400 2460 4100 2765 2900 2550 1620 915 750 2180 8550 6960 2500 1400 2460 4100 2765 2900 2650 1620 915 750 2180 9620 6890 3000 3200 3200 3500 3500 3500 4000 4500 5000 5100 5500 6000 1400 1500 1500 1500 1600 1600 1700 1800 1800 2000 1900 2300 2460 2620 2760 2720 2920 3000 3200 3350 3500 3600 3685 3950 4600 4900 5100 5600 5700 5700 6300 6750 7250 7650 8050 8600 2765 2980 3120 3130 3330 3410 3660 3810 3960 4135 4220 4300 2900 3135 3275 3345 3545 3625 3925 4075 4225 4500 4585 4650 2650 2760 2900 2900 3000 3200 3300 3460 3620 3750 3750 4000 1620 1745 1750 1750 1950 2000 2000 2070 2150 2200 2350 2240 915 990 1020 1020 1115 1150 1250 1300 1310 1320 1400 1470 750 800 880 1000 1070 1070 1100 1100 1100 1200 1200 1150 2180 2300 2340 2400 2500 2640 2740 2880 3040 3200 3280 3500 10550 11550 13100 14050 15080 17500 21100 23050 26550 31100 33150 38000 8435 9610 9865 11940 12630 14120 16530 20030 25700 28140 31120 37500 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 65 40 32 25 40 65 40 32 25 40 80 40 32 32 50 80 40 32 32 50 80 40 32 32 50 100 40 32 32 50 100 40 32 32 50 125 40 32 32 50 125 40 40 40 65 125 40 40 40 65 150 40 50 50 80 150 40 50 50 80 150 40 50 65 100 200 40 50 65 100 200 40 50 65 100 200 40 65 65 100 400 132 109 115 50 5.5 400 158 131 137 60 7.0 450 198 163 172 76 7.0 450 232 191 201 89 7.0 500 265 218 229 101 8.5 550 331 272 286 127 8.0 600 397 327 344 152 9.0 600 463 381 401 178 10.5 650 529 436 458 203 10.0 650 661 545 573 253 10.5 700 794 654 687 298 12.0 700 926 763 802 357 12.0 800 1058 872 916 405 14.0 900 1191 980 1031 456 14.0 900 1323 1089 1146 506 15.0 1100 1587 1307 1374 607 19.0 * Duty in kg/h f & a 100ºC at atmospheric pressure.
