Art Curriculum Map Year 7 Benchmark Assessment Mark Making: A basic drawing and colour skills project. Responding to music, creating texture, tone, shape and form using pencil. Basic colour theory. Drawing from observation looking at natural forms. Start to experiment with drawing with different materials: string, collage, paint, oil pastel Artists: Andy Goldsworthy/ Barbara Hepworth/ Insects: Develop basic drawing skills. Use mark making techniques from the first project and apply to drawing of insects/ beetles. Respond to images by doing close up/ macro colour studies using a variety of colour materials. Create a tissue paper and pen insect and develop this into a 2d low relief card beetle/ insect, learning about different ways to create texture, shape and form. Artists: African shields/ Mancala : Respond to tribal patterns using pen/ colour materials/mono print/ scraffito/ draw with paper. Learn how to draw animals. Develop proportional skills and tone and texture. Artists: Tribal art from Africa. Base Line assessment in the 2nd/ 3rd week: drawing skills, responding to an artist. Assess drawing and colour skills in sketchbook and mixed media shell/leaf piece. Spring Term 2 African shields/ Mancala: Develop a range three dimensional skills. Outcome: create a Mancala game based on an animal or design and create a tribal shield. Make out of card and recycled materials. Shield or Mancala game. Summer Term 1 Crafts for the summer fair: To be decided by the students. Create work to sell at the summer fair ( eg: paper mache bowls, painted stones/ wicker shapes) Work created for the summer fair Perspective: Learn to draw in one and two point perspective. Use simple techniques to develop understanding of creating depth and distance when drawing interiors/ shapes/ landscapes and city scapes. Sketchbook work on perspective.
