“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life.”
John 10:27
There is No better Time than the Present
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born
and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot… (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)
We find ourselves as a congregation and as individuals in the best time of our lives. Believe it or
not today is a blessed day for us. Some might say that yesterday or last month or last year was
better than today. Today for some may be harder than days gone by, whether health, financial,
family or other issues have risen we still have reason to rejoice. If you look for a reason to be
down cast, I am sure that it won’t be hard to find one, but if you really want to rejoice look to the
skies.
You probably thought that I was going to say something “spiritual” like that didn’t you? But it is
true – look up. Have you ever noticed that some people (maybe even you) walk around with
their heads down all the time. The next time you go to the store and are walking from your car to
the entrance look at all the people walking around. I did the other day and I notice that almost
everyone was downcast. It seemed as if they would only to lift their heads long enough to make
sure they are going in the right direction. But, we know something that helps us keep our heads
up even when times get tough.
As we celebrated Ascension Day on Thursday May 14th we find ourselves along with the
disciples looking up to the skies. As the angels spoke to the disciples they also remind us: “This
same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have
seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)
So look up! Keep looking up to the skies waiting for our Lord to return and while you are going
through life help others keep their chins up as well. We do have great reason to rejoice even in
our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character;
and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because our hope is in our loving God
who sent Christ to die for us, to rise for us, to bring us to everlasting life.
So, look up! Keep looking up!
In Jesus’ Name

To My 93 Year Old Girlfriend – Author Unknown
An old man who was in love dipped his pen in romanticism and wrote these
precious words to his 93 year old sweetheart: “The moon shines on a lonely man
tonight because you are there and I am here. The pain gnaws at a restless heart.
The feeling I have for you defies the pen of any writer to describe, and would
render speechless the tongue of any orator who would attempt to expound it. This
love reaches beyond all human limitations. I would be willing to crawl through a
pit of snakes just to look upon that lovely face of yours. I would be willing to
climb the highest mountain peak just to see the gleam in those ocean-blue eyes
nature has endowed you with. I would swim the highest swollen river just to be
by your side.” He signed it, “Lovingly and devotedly yours, William.” Then at
the bottom he added the postscript, “I’ll see you Wednesday night if it doesn’t rain.”

I don’t normally wear shorts
anymore due to all the noticeable
veins on my legs. But last summer
while taking care of our grandson, I
was wearing shorts when little Billy,
who was lying on his tummy at my
feet, said, “Granny, I just love your
legs” “You do?” I asked. “Why?”
“Because,” he answered, “purple is
my favorite color”

No Joke!
Congratulation to all our
Graduates!
Looking at summertime activities can serve to open our minds and eyes to the future. This provides an
opportunity to plan and direct our attention on new and rewarding fellowships. Thoughts of concerns for family
and friends both near and far, new acquaintances and memories of times long ago will be part of the many
conversations of summer. Recollections and dreams like these create the state of mind we go forward with in
time. This is where basic values and beliefs, both in the past and the present begin to shape these new memories
and relationships. Think back when and where these values and beliefs first became part of your own personal
life.
As we participate in the many social activities of summer consider the lessons of the season just past. The
message of Easter reminds us we will go forward with new hope and clearer visions of the future. Share your
forgiveness with those who appear unsure and in need of guidance and encouragement. These opportunities will
help us realize our own values and beliefs that give us hope, as well. There will be days ahead when reflecting
on times gone by gives our hopes even more meaning.
Most of life today appears to be moving at very high speed. These values and beliefs were created at a rather
slow speed, thus, changing them will be at a somewhat slow speed also. Therefore practicing patience will be
required for our high speed life to accept all the changes. The results will be worth the wait.
As the summer months unfold and life moves ahead, take note of your expectations and especially the emotions
and the important role these all play in who and what we are right now. Can we reflect on life today with pride,
satisfaction and contentment, or, is there hope of even more spiritual involvement with what will follow.
Please let us be worthy and spiritually aware as we live each and every day. Have safe and rewarding
experiences as we continue forward.
God’s blessing to all.
Your Elder,
Tom Craig
From the Vicar:
As I sit behind the Vicar desk and gather my thoughts for the June/July Scroll I can’t believe the year is almost half
over. Is it just me or does it seem like we just put those Christmas decorations away? “Fast” seems to be the word of
the day! But, as we meditated on the Word in my Sermon back on May 17th, I mentioned that in this hustle and bustle
world we live in, sometimes we really need to step back just a little bit, raise our focus to Christ, and just smell the
roses, so to speak; reflecting on the many blessings that our Lord and Savior has bestowed upon us.
Well, as your Vicar, the list of blessings for my family and I at Our Savior is long, humbling, and needs to be framed
through the lens of recent opportunities. Upon arriving at the Seminary, and then ‘randomly’ stumbling into Our
Savior in the summer of 2012, we were immediately greeted by a friendly sort of fellow, who immediately took our
girls to Sunday school and began telling us about the great work of God’s family at Our Savior. Our travels have
taken us to many places and many LCMS churches but the warm kindness shown to us by Wayne Kuppler and
everybody was a tremendous sign that Our Savior was the right place for us. Then in September of 2012, we were
assigned to Our Savior as a Seminary Field Worker, and the journey of opportunities and friendships began.
Since that time, we have had the opportunity of watching our daughter Faith go through Confirmation catechizing,
receiving her Confirmation in May 2014, and now Elizabeth forges ahead; to be Confirmed next year. We have had
the opportunities of participating in VBS, the Praise Band and Children’s Choir, Ladies Tea (Jennifer and girls only!
ha), Advent and Lenten Celebrations, Living Last Supper twice, and Trivia Nights. We have had the opportunity of
participating in a marriage enrichment retreat, whereby we renewed our wedding vows, and multiple youth events
and retreats. Our girls have had many service opportunities in working the Service projector, nursery, and acolyting,
to name a few.
In May of 2014, I was assigned to Our Savior as the Vicar, starting in August, and from there the opportunities have
abounded. I have had the tremendous opportunity of bringing you Christ-led Sermons, leading Worship, Bible
Studies, and Confirmation. I have had the opportunity to bring Jesus Time to our Pre-school kids every week, getting
to know their parents and grandparents at various events. I have had the opportunity of joining in Elder, Leadership
Team, Staff, Outreach, and Town Hall meetings with some very spirited conversations and approaches to building
God’s kingdom. I have also been tremendously blessed with the opportunity of visiting with our shut-in members
and those in hospitals; praying with some before they entered eternal joy and peace with our Lord and Savior, and
praying with others that have just brought little bundles of joy into the world.
My list could go on and on for days in all the many opportunities that my family and I have been blessed with here at
Our Savior, as my Vicarage draws to an end on July 31st. But the key to all of them is quoted by our Lord and Savior
Jesus in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” It’s about the
people. It’s about the people gathering in Christ’s name, warts and all. And that is where joyful Christ led
opportunities flourish.
May the Lord continue to bless you, your families, and our community as we celebrate the season of Pentecost.
He is Risen and Ascended,
He is Risen and Ascended Indeed, Alleluia!
Your Humble Vicar, Dan

Pre-School
News!
We give thanks to God for His continued blessings!!
With heartfelt gratitude we say goodbye to our Lead Monkeys Teacher, Miss Amber Warren.
We are so excited for Amber as she moves on to her next journey where she will be joining
the staff at Zion Lutheran School. We have no doubt she will continue to grow as a teacher
and a valued member of their staff. But before she begins her new job at Zion, she will be
getting married!!! Amber has been a tremendous blessing to Our Savior Pre-School, our
families, our children, and our staff. We send her on with all our love, support, and best
wishes as she begins her life as a wife and a teacher at Zion.
To follow that news we are overjoyed to announce that Mrs. Lissa Williams will be the new
Lead Teacher for our Monkeys classroom. Lissa has served as Assistant Teacher to Amber
for many years and we couldn’t be happier to have her as the new Lead Teacher!!! She
lights up her classroom with her smile, her love of children, and her love of God. She has
shown herself as a leader by her hard work in the classroom, her participation on our
Expansion Team, and a valued member of our staff! We continue to wish Lissa God’s richest
blessings and continue to keep her in our prayers as she prepares for her new role!
We also give thanks to God for Miss Sara Tremmel who has accepted the offer to be our Lead
Teacher for our new two year-old classroom! We couldn’t be happier to have one of Our
Savior’s own serving in this role! Sara will work through the summer months as an Assistant
Teacher with both the Monkeys class and the Lions class. When the new classroom opens
she will transition to their Lead Teacher. Her creativity, enthusiasm, education & experience
will be a tremendous blessing as she works to share God’s love with the children!!
A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to Kathy Brasher who has put endless hours, effort, love, and
organization into moving our storage items from one area to another in preparation of our
expansion. It was a tremendous undertaking and she worked so tirelessly to get it done and
get it done right!!! We have a wonderfully organized and easy to use area for all our extra
supplies, goodies, and extras that we need year-round!!
Please continue to keep our Pre-School in your prayers as we search for the right person to
take on the role of Director.
