AFB site says Oak Forest is preferred for better parking. General Information Camp Tuscarora will be our base camp, but for Saturday’s activities we will travel to Seymour Johnson AFB to enjoy the Wings Over Wayne air show. AFB Gates open at 8AM, air shows at 10AM, but it is a 35 minute drive, plus parking and possible shuttles. Tuscarora Campsites 3, 4, and 5 Site 5 - Tigers and Wolves, nearest the shower house. Site 4 - Bears Site 3 - Webelos I’s Camp Gates will not lock, but please do not drive around after dark. All vehicles are expected to be placed in the parking lot after unloading. There are several other groups that will be active at the Camp on the same weekend. Practice Leave No Trace and Good Citizenship Class B all weekend – especially at the (hot) AFB on Saturday “Buddy System” all weekend at camp; and stay with your Family at the AFB. Saturday Activity We will be attending the Wings Over Wayne Air Show at Seymour Johnson Air Base in Goldsboro NC. The air base is approximately a 20 to 30 minute drive from the Camp, plus parking and possible shuttles. Parking and admission is free There will be a security check to get to the flight line. No pocket knives! You can bring folding chairs to the flight line There will be concessions at the flight line to purchase for lunch and snacks HOT! Please bring hats, sunscreen, water bottles, thick-soled shoes, etc. Large parasols are banned. All vehicles are expected to be placed in the parking lot after unloading. 8:00 PM – Leaders council to meet with Cubmaster at Camp Site 5 Discuss the logistics of the AFB and being on-site, and our return time. Remind everyone to be safe – ear plugs, sun screen, hydration. 9:00 PM – Scouts bedtime / quiet time 9:30 PM - Lights Out Saturday, May 16th 6:30 to 8:00 AM – Fast breakfast! Wake, cook, clean-up, and leave. Fast breakfast in order to enjoy the show (gates open at 8, main show at 10AM) Dens dissolve into family units, unless coordinated in advance. By 8:15AM - Break Camp Depart to the AFB by car. 8:30AM to 4:00PM – Explore the AFB exhibits and enjoy the air show. Families are responsible for bringing or purchasing their own lunches. USAF Thunderbirds “finish” the show at 2PM. 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM – Dinner at camp and clean-up Dens or families will provide all meals. Please organize with your Den as needed. 8:15 PM - Campfire Cubmaster to lead. Dens will perform skits or songs. All forms of entertaining are welcome! 9:00 PM - After the campfire. S’mores, Pack to provide. 10:00 PM - Lights Out Sunday, May 17th 7:00 to 9:00 AM - Wake, cook and, clean-up. Dens or families will provide all meals.
