Now accepting nominations for 2015 Lifetime
Achievement Award and Benjamin Franklin
Award for Excellence
The PNA is now accepting nominations for two of its most
prestigious awards. The Lifetime Achievement Award
honors outstanding service and accomplishment spanning a
career in journalism. The Benjamin Franklin Award for
Excellence recognizes an individual who has made a
positive impact on the newspaper industry in
Pennsylvania. Submission guidelines for both the Lifetime
Achievement Award and Benjamin Franklin Award for
Excellence are available on the PNA website. The
submission deadline for both awards is June 17.

LNP (Lancaster) introduces new features
Over the past year and a half, LNP has been improving both the
content and appearance of its newspaper - as well as increasing
the amount of quality content produced. In a Monday Letter from
the Editor, Executive Editor Barbara Hough Roda announced
additional new features, including broader use of color, a
redesigned, easy-to-read A2 page, and expanded space for
national and world news, as well as an additional page for
syndicated columns and political cartoons representing our diverse

Longtime Philadelphia sportswriter and editor Frank
Bertucci passes away
Frank Bertucci, a longtime sportswriter and editor, who worked for
the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News and contributed to
national and international newswires, passed away on Friday. He
was a mainstay of the Penn Relays, having worked the event for
more than 40 years, and on retirement, started his own blog, Frank

Times-Shamrock's Publisher Emeritus Bill Lynett
inducted into Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters'
Hall of Fame On Sunday, Bill Lynett, Publisher Emeritus at Times-Shamrock
Communications Inc., was inducted into the Pennsylvania Association
of Broadcasters' Hall of Fame. PAB's Hall of Fame is dedicated to
recognizing leaders whose distinguished service has contributed to
making the industry unrivaled in the world. Read more on the PAB

Express-Times names Al Kratzer its new publisher
Former editorial cartoonist Al Kratzer was named vice president of
sales and publisher Friday at The Express-Times (Easton) and
LehighValleyLive.com for NJ Advance Media. He has been vice
president of sales in Easton since earlier this year and has worked
nearly 15 years in various roles with the parent company. He said
he was excited and humbled by his promotion. "I've been given a
fantastic opportunity to work with a group of top-notch media
professionals," he said. "Together we look forward to serving our
local readers and the business community." Kratzer succeeds Lou Stancampiano, who

Standard-Speaker names new advertising director
Lee Ann Davidovich has been named advertising director of the
Standard-Speaker (Hazleton). Davidovich has more than two
decades of marketing and sales experience and has worked in
television, radio and direct mail advertising. She comes to the
Standard-Speaker from her post as director of sales with the
Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce. Davidovich replaces Paul
Ross, who was recently named advertising director at The TimesTribune. Read more from the Standard-Speaker.

Professional Journalists. Award winners
will be recognized at a reception and
program in June. Wilkinson's work also

Affairs Paula Knudsen's Senate
Judiciary Committee testimony now
available
On April 28, PNA's Director of Government
Affairs, Paula Knudsen, testified before the
state Senate Judiciary Committee in
Montgomery County. The Committee held its
second hearing on best practices in law
enforcement and Knudsen testified about
access to police body camera footage. A

are available on the committee's website. Knudsen's testimony begins at 132:12 in the
video.
PNA attends Women in PA Government Relations
luncheon
Teri Henning and Paula Knudsen attended the Women in PA
Government Relations luncheon with legislators on Monday.
Knudsen is pictured with State Senator Camera Bartolotta (RWashington/Beaver/Greene) and Rocky the Alligator, the
mascot of the Monongahela Aquatorium. Rocky is up for
adoption on a weekly basis as part of an online auction, and
this week he accompanied Bartolotta around the State Capitol

Q: I requested access to employee information (name, job title, salary, employment
contracts) from a local agency, and my request was preliminarily denied based on the
recent decision in the PSEA case. The letter said the law requires agencies to deny
access to employees' "personal information" or allow them to object to its release. Is this
allowed under the RTKL?
A: The decision in the PSEA case does not require agencies to withhold employees'
personal information, but it does require agencies to provide notice and an opportunity
to object to employees when their home addresses have been requested. Read More

Association News The new faces of journalism to be focus of PA Press Conference session On May 30, a joint session at the PA Press Conference in Gettysburg will feature panelists
discussing what should newsroom managers expect from the next generation of journalists
and what the new generation expects from managers. The panel will also examine
whether the concept of a newsroom is even a viable model in the future. Attendees will
hear from the next generation, those making their way in the new reality of "writers for
hire" and the old vanguard looking to survive, and thrive, in the new world. Read more

Congratulations to the winners of the 2015 PWPA
Excellence in Journalism Awards and scholarship
The Pennsylvania Women's Press Association recently
announced the winners of its 2015 Excellence in Journalism
Awards and Teresa Spatara Memorial Scholarship. The
PWPA board and contest judges were impressed by the number
of exceptional entries received for the awards. Jenny Schouppe
(right), a junior communication major with a focus in
journalism and electronic media at Waynesburg University
earned the scholarship. Winners will be honored at the PWPA
Luncheon held in conjunction with the PA Press Conference on
May 30.

Two PNA events were recently recapped. In its May 2015 edition, Editor & Publisher
featured a summary and photos from America East 2015. In a May 5 article, Technical.ly
highlighted the three projects that were produced during PNA and Webjunto's #OpenGov
Hackathon during Philly Tech Week.
World Press Freedom Day celebrated Sunday
World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993.
Since then, May 3 is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day. It is an
opportunity to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom; assess the state of
press freedom throughout the world; defend the media from attacks on their
independence; and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Submit your work to the 2015 Online Journalism Awards. ONA is now accepting entries for
the 2015 Online Journalism Awards, which honor excellence in digital journalism. Ten of
the 37 awards come with $60,000 in prize money, courtesy of the John S. and James L.
Knight Foundation, the Gannett Foundation and The University of Florida College of
