Physical Education
Physical Education is compulsory for all girls at MLC from Kindergarten to Year 12. It is essential for a
healthy, active lifestyle and we aspire to deliver programs to the girls that engage them in a range
of sports and recreational activities that will equip them with the skills for participation in and out
of school.
A wide variety of learning opportunities focused around cooperation, discipline and respect for
self and others are embedded into all curriculum lessons. Diverse opportunities range from team
sports, such as basketball, hockey, netball, softball, badminton and volleyball, through to
individual pursuits including fitness testing, athletics, cross country, gymnastics, tennis and
swimming.
House Activities are a compulsory component of Physical Education. Girls compete in traditional
sports against other Houses for the Sports’ Cup. The Sports’ Cup is awarded at the end of the year.
IGSSA Sport is Interschool sport played after school as part of the IGSSA (Independent Girls’ Schools’
Sports Association) programme. IGSSA was established in 1963. It aims to provide quality, sporting
opportunities for students to participate at different levels of competition in the pursuit of a
healthy and active lifestyle. MLC actively participates in the IGSSA Competition in weekly sporting
fixtures and at the Interschool sports carnivals in a wide variety of sports.
