WRFL MEDIA RELEASE 20th March, 2015 PARKSIDE TO REBUILD IN DIVISION THREE The Western Region Football League Board has decided that the Parkside Football Club will line up in Division Three in season 2015. The decision comes after a series of meetings with the Parkside Football Club committee who were faced with the prospect of folding after a lack of players and committee members failed to recommit to the club. A general meeting of club members last night resolved to approach the WRFL Board with a proposal to re-build the club in Division Three. “Following a lengthy period of engagement and negotiation with club officials, the Board met today and decided that the only way to keep the Parkside Football Club alive was to allow them to start again in Division Three and treat season 2015 as a re-building year,” WRFL chief executive Bob Tregear said. “Parkside is one of our oldest clubs, so to provide them with an opportunity to survive and work on their list is a decision we were willing to make.” The move will now create a bye in the Division One fixture with nine clubs competing in the top tier, while the original bye fixtured in Division Three will be filled by Parkside. Despite playing in the last six Division Two Grand Finals, Parkside found that the majority of the 2014 Premiership team and key committee members were no longer prepared to play with the club in 2015. After notifying all WRFL club presidents of the decision, Tregear said the support expressed by senior clubs was really pleasing. “The response has been one of complete support for the Parkside Football Club. “Our clubs know as well as anyone the strains football can have on a club, so to hear the overwhelming support from them is extremely pleasing.” Parkside still face significant challenges in establishing a playing list, but this decision provides a platform for them to resolve that, with the club set to announce its new senior coach early next week.
