SPONSORSHIP PLEA - Parktown Boys` High School

SPONSORSHIP PLEA
Parktown triumphs in the inaugural SA round of the World Scholar’s Cup
Parktown Boys’ desperately requires sponsorship assistance for three of its teams which recently
participated in the inaugural South African round of the World Scholar’s Cup, held in South Africa
between 23–24 May and hosted at the Bishop Bavin School in Bedfordview. The outstanding news
is this: all three teams have qualified for the Global Round to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! The
problem is that we still need to finance 5 boys and an accompanying adult to attend this incredible
event!
The school entered three teams of senior boys, with Team 517, consisting of Gabriel Matthews, Tristan
Wilkinson and Zidaan Habib, placed 1st OVERALL in the competition. However, Parktown also place 3rd
and 5th in the event, which meant that the teams from Parktown Boys’ High School made up 60% of the
top five teams in the competition! The third-placed group was Team 519 (Mokgeseng Ramaisa, Micah
Bwanali and Adam Vanker) with Team 518 (Muhammad Jhetam, Ronan Morris and Mishaylen
Lutchman) placed fifth overall in the competition.
In addition to Team 517 being placed 1st overall, the boys also collected numerous trophies, silver and
gold medals on the day and all three teams qualified for the Global Rounds to be held in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia, between 22-26 June this year. The WSC Global Round will bring together 2, 500 leading
scholars from over 45 countries, with the opportunity to earn pre-qualified berths at the Final
Conference (the Tournament of Champions) at Yale University in November 2015. This is indeed a
challenge for our Parktown boys!
Old Boys and Parents of Parktown Boys’ High School, we urgently need your assistance to get our boys
to Malaysia in three weeks’ time! Although four parents have made the sacrifice to finance the trip out
of their own pockets, the biggest need at present is to provide adequate sponsorship for the remaining
5 boys and an accompanying adult/teacher in order to allow them to represent South Africa at this most
prestigious event in June. At this stage, the costs involved totals R 20 000 per individual (air fare and
accommodation).
Should any company headed by our Old Boys (or Parents) or should any individual Old Boy or Parent be
willing to sponsor any boy and/or the three teams (or if anyone is prepared to make even a small
donation towards the total costs) please contact either Mrs R Wood at the Foundation Office (011 642
4531/2 or e-mail [email protected]) or Mr André de Wilzem at the same school number (011 642
4531/2), at 082 554 3009 (cellular number) or at the following e-mail address:
[email protected].
Our Old Boys and Parents are reminded that any amount donated is tax-refundable (local Old Boys and
Parents may receive an PBO for tax purposes, while overseas Old Boys should use the SWIFT NUMBER
quoted below). Should you be prepared to make any donation, the details for the deposit is as follows:
