The exhibition is dedicated to the Museum of the History of Riga and
Navigation. The origins of the museum date back to 1773; however, the
exhibition focuses on the period of the Dome Museum (1890―1936),
with particular emphasis on the Baltic German contribution to the
preservation of Latvia’s cultural values and the fate of cultural treasures during World War II.

The exhibition presents the history Riga and its inhabitants in the 18th
and first half of the 19th century. It provides clearer understanding of
the development of Riga within the context of Russian and European

Riga and its inhabitants after the Great Northern War, when in 1710
Riga became part of the Russian Empire.

The exposition ‘’Cinema Cabinet’’ provides comprehensive/concise
information about Latvian film history against the backdrop of world
cinematic events. The idea of the ‘’Cinema Cabinet’’ conforms to the
Cabinet of Folksongs (Dainas) as a depository storing not only a monumental collection of folksongs, but also the wisdom of life experience.

Forests are among Latvia’s most well-known natural resources. The
Latvian people are wise and enthusiastic about the natural world, i.e.,
they love communing with nature. Something not practiced in many
countries, the traditions of hunting, and berry and mushroom picking are still popular here. Forests (certainly in Latvia) are abundant in
natural riches that most modern societies fail to notice. This exhibition presents four protected forest habitats of European significance
that are found in Latvia, as well as the plant and animal species that
inhabit them.

The exhibition recounts the history of the most unique natural resource that can be found in Latvia: amber. It covers topics such as
formation, its characteristic forms and wide range of colours; amber
inclusions, fossilised tree resins throughout the world and their deposits; as well as threads made of this material.

EXHIBITION "THE WHITE AND THE BLACK - THE STORY OF A
PAINTING"

The double portrait The White and the Black (1925) is an outstanding
example of Latvian Modernism of the 1920s and holds a special place
among the works of Aleksandra Beļcova. However, this work arouses
interest not only among art historians. It contains an intriguing and dramatic story about the fate of the model portrayed in the painting, Biruta
Ozoliņa, who was the sister of a close friend of Aleksandra Beļcova.

EXHIBITION "MARIS ARGALIS. MILKY WAY"

The exhibition is dedicated to the works of Latvian graphic artist, the
brilliant hyper-realist Maris Argalis (1954-2008). The exhibition features works from his personal collection, arts institutions, and museum collections. Also to be shown - a reconstruction of the 1978

Dalia Jakimaviciene and Rytas Jakimavicius are a ceramist duo (wife
and husband), who are among the leading artists in Lithuania. Each
has earned recognition with their own unique style; they play an important role in European ceramic art. Methods are often connected
by parallels – porcelain china is made usually using ceramic decals or
by painting them by hand. The content involves a witty theme, with
artists open to innovative experimentation..

The "Purvītis Prize’’ is the most prestigious art award in Latvia, established with the objective to find and acknowledge the most outstanding achievements. The Prize is presented every two years and is
named after Vilhelms Purvītis, one of the masters and forefathers of
Latvian painting, dean and instructor at the Academy for many years.

Produced in tandem by the duo Dzudzilo, the focus of the exhibition is
common man. Because the couple’s work has been related to theater
[set design] – a time of visual emotional experiences – Krista and Reinis Dzudzilo have arranged this exhibition "dramatically." In Arsenals
Exhibition Hall, the visitor is invited on a journey of personal nature, at
the same time, collective.

The Concerto Piccolo presents an opportunity to bask in the sounds
of the most splendid and valuable historic organs in the exemplary
acoustics of the Riga Dome Cathedral. The Riga Dome Cathedral pipe
piorgan is one of the greatest achievements in organ manufacture
from the late Romanticism period and is an excellent monument to
the history of music.

"Rīga", "Ave Sol" Chamber Choir, and conductor Andris Veismanis present a concert marking Good Friday.

CABARET REVIVAL AT "JŪRMALA" RESTAURANT

In the early 1980s, "Jūrmala" Restaurant and its cabaret troupe were
famous throughout Latvia and abroad. People would make reservations months in advance just to be able to see the renowned show.
This time the success of the 1980s will be revived by "Love or Money",
a variety show in two acts featuring professional entertainers in elegant and aesthetic dance step with colourful costumes and excellent
singing, accompanied by live musicians.

to the largest Sauer Organ in Latvia. It was built by Sauer in 1906.
Before the Riga Dome Cathedral became a concert hall in 1962, St.

The first opera by Giacomo Puccini - Le Villi, is a dance-laden tale of
broken spirit and broken hearts. Anna and Roberto were bonded by
their pending marriage - until Roberto is ravished by a siren. Anna
dies in sorrow. Revenge devised by the spirits of abandoned women –
the villi – is ruthless… This production is the first staging of Le Villi in
Riga, whereas, Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, superbly directed by Viesturs
Kairišs, has already been hailed by Riga audiences and critics alike.
Initially conceived from The Divine Comedy by Dante, it reveals human greed and avarice with an ironic touch. Against the background
of family dissension and intrigue is a plot of deception with the family
fortune the goal. A pair of lovebirds stumbles into their sweet share
of happiness.

Artistic Riga porcelain (1925-1940) from the collection of Peteris Avens
is one of the largest and most important private collections in Latvia. It
contains six unique and important sets, painted by the renowned R. Suta,
T. Rozensilda-Paulina (Kacalova) and N. Boiko. They reflect style trends
and the vivid imagination of 1920-1930s porcelain artists.

attraction. By celebrating the opening of the summer resort season
a major event is organised every year. A festive pageant is held along
Jomas iela, the main pedestrian street in Jūrmala. Children have their

The Latvian National Museum of Art, in collaboration with the National
Museum of History and Art of Luxembourg, is displaying the Riga exhibition of the brilliant photographer Edward Steichen, 1879-1973. The
artist was born in Luxembourg and later left his home country to live in
the United States. He is recognized in the history of photography as one
of the brightest and most influential photo artists of his time.

GRAND FINALE FOR VIII NORDIC-BALTIC CHORAL FESTIVAL

The festival’s closing concert will take place on June 28 and will feature
compositions from previous years, as well as new songs offered by the
festival’s member states. The joint Nordic-Baltic choir will perform Carl
Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana - promised to be a magnificent rendition
of this great work.
