The idea of the ‘’Cinema Cabinet’’ conforms to the Cabinet of Folksongs (Dainas) as a depository storing not only a monumental collection of folksongs, but also the wisdom of life experience. Riga Film Museum EXHIBITION "DEEPER INTO THE FOREST" 01.-05.04., 10:00-17:00 (III,V), 10:00-19:00 (IV), 11:0017:00 (VI-VII) Forests are among Latvia’s most well-known natural resources. The Latvian people are wise and enthusiastic about the natural world, i.e., they love communing with nature. Something not practiced in many countries, the traditions of hunting, and berry and mushroom picking are still popular here. Forests (certainly in Latvia) are abundant in natural riches that most modern societies fail to notice. This exhibition presents four protected forest habitats of European significance that are found in Latvia, as well as the plant and animal species that inhabit them. It covers topics such as formation, its characteristic forms and wide range of colours; amber inclusions, fossilised tree resins throughout the world and their deposits; as well as threads made of this material. Paper, plywood, pencil, oil. 70 x 80 cm EXHIBITION "THE WHITE AND THE BLACK - THE STORY OF A PAINTING" 01.04.-08.08., 11:00-18:00 (III-VI), 11:00-19:00 (II) The double portrait The White and the Black (1925) is an outstanding example of Latvian Modernism of the 1920s and holds a special place among the works of Aleksandra Beļcova. However, this work arouses interest not only among art historians. It contains an intriguing and dramatic story about the fate of the model portrayed in the painting, Biruta Ozoliņa, who was the sister of a close friend of Aleksandra Beļcova. MILKY WAY" 19.03.-19.04., 11:00-18:00 (II-VII) The exhibition is dedicated to the works of Latvian graphic artist, the brilliant hyper-realist Maris Argalis (1954-2008). Riga Art Space CERAMICS EXHIBITION BY LITHUANIAN ARTISTS DALIA JAKIMAVICIENE AND RYTAS JAKIMAVICIUS 27.03.-17.05., 11:00-18:00 (II-VII) Dalia Jakimaviciene and Rytas Jakimavicius are a ceramist duo (wife and husband), who are among the leading artists in Lithuania. Each has earned recognition with their own unique style; they play an important role in European ceramic art. Easter is not only a Christian celebration of Lord Jesus Christ’s resurrection but also spring solstice celebrated with a variety of rituals for the sun and renewal of the earth, pushing for its fertility and asking for its blessing. People would make reservations months in advance just to be able to see the renowned show.
