Since 1986, The Trenton Downtown Association (TDA) is a non-profit organization that manages the downtown special improvement district in Trenton, New Jersey. TDA provides an array of sanitation, maintenance, special events, and marketing services to downtown businesses, residents, and visitors. These programs promote commerce and economic growth in the heart of the capital city. For Trenton small businesses, TDA provides ombudsman services, referrals, event planning, and marketing assistance. TDA also operates The Trenton Visitors Center, manages the Destination Trenton website, and produces regular newsletters highlighting the best the capital region has to offer for recreational purposes. Joan Mercantini, CPA, a Trenton native, is a graduate of St. Anthony’s Grammar School, Hamilton High West, Mercer County Community College, and Rutgers University School of Business. Recently retired, she was employed as a secretary at De Laval Turbine, Inc. and Walker, Sander, Ford & Kerr, Architects, a property manager at South Village, a HUD subsidized senior citizens housing project in Trenton, a Staff Accountant at Michael Graves, Architect, and Treasurer of Berkowsky and Associates, Inc. A lover of the arts, she was deeply moved by Passage Theatre’s performance of “Roebling Steel” in 1990. Since then, she has served as Passage’s Board Treasurer for 25 years.
