Enjoy these challenging learning engagements this summer! READ & COMPLETE the following: Wonder by R.J. Palacio August Pullman w as born with a facial deformity that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. Spanish in your life… As you stroll through various public places during your summer break, find an authentic artifact that has been written in the Spanish language. You might find a menu, a plane or museum ticket (not your MFA ticket), a consumer product, or perhaps an advertisement. What do you think the artifact is saying? How do you know? Be prepared to turn in your artifact to your Spanish teacher on the first day of class and present. Consider the characters of Wonder and the attributes of the IB Learner Profile that they exhibit. After reading the text, create your own cartoon or comic strip that depicts a theme you have identified from the text. A theme is the lesson learned or message for the reader. Example: Justice is worth fighting for… Be creative, detailed, and be sure to turn in your best quality work! Be ready to take a quiz on the book upon return to school in August… Connecting to the Past through Art Ancient Civilizations & Visual Arts Visit MFA - St. Petersburg’s Museum of Fine Arts.
