“Our mission is to provide a safe, learning community with high expectations; enabling
students to become lifelong learners.”
A Message From the Principal:
Dear Parent(s),
I hope you are had a great and restful Spring Break. Your 3rd through 5th
grade Pandas have been working extremely hard completing part one of
the new state assessment PARCC. Part two will start later in April. We are
excited and optimistic to see how strong we finish the school year. Just a
reminder that PARCC is not our only State assessment we are taking this
spring. Colorado Measurement of Social Studies and Science (CMASS) will
take place starting April 13th and run through the 21st for fourth graders
taking the Social Studies test and fifth graders taking the Science test.
These tests are also completed on the computer as are our PARCC and
iReady assessments.
We also have a few middle school orientations coming up for fifth graders
at the end of the month and the beginning of May. Please remember as
the temperatures continue to get warmer, check our dress code regarding
shorts and tops. Summer will be upon us soon but we still need to dress
appropriately for school. Our handbook is posted on our school website
along with many other upcoming events.
Speaking of events, we just completed our Big Hero 6 movie night and we
had over 150 students and parents show up and participate. It was a great
time. I want to thank our wonderful PTO for putting on this great opportunity
for or school. I also want to thank a couple more people. Brittney Long
for all her incredible artwork painting inside our school the past couple of
weeks. Our super heroes look great. I also want to thank the Dean family
for painting and refurbishing our notebook and pencil vending machines
in the cafeteria. They look brand new again and are ready for another forty
years of service. Thank you for your time and as always your continued
support of your Pear Park Elementary.

Cafeteria
Parents, just a reminder that meal accounts need to paid in full before the end of
the school year. If your child is moving on to Middle School, the balance will follow
them to the next school. Middle Schools only allow one charge.
If a meal account has reached the maximum level (-$10.00), 1/2 of a PBJ, 1/2 cup
fruit and a white milk will be provided.
If needed, Free and Reduced applications are available on the district website or at
the office. The applications can be turned in at any time during the year.
Dress Code
As the weather turns warm and we begin to shed our layers it is
important to remember our school dress code guidelines. Our
guidelines state that students should dress in a manner which
supports a learning environment. Students who come to school
dressed in a way which is distracting, disruptive, or immodest will
be asked to call home to have more appropriate attire brought to
school.
• Shirts, blouses and dresses should completely cover the abdomen, back and shoulders.
• Straps on tank tops must be at least 3 adult fingers in width.
• Hats should not be worn inside the school building.
• Midriff should not be visible.
• Short-shorts and miniskirts are deemed inappropriate attire. Shorts, skirts and dresses should be at least fingertip length.
• Pants should not fall below the waist.
• Flip-flop type sandals are not appropriate footwear for outdoor activities or PE.
Please support our dress code by being aware of what your child
is wearing each day.

Bicycles, Roller Blades, Skateboards, etc.
Children may ride bicycles to school, however; they must be walked on school grounds.
Bicycles should be locked to the bicycle racks. Please remember that the school
cannot be responsible for these items brought to school. Rollerblades are not allowed
to be ridden to school or on school grounds. In addition, we strongly discourage the
wearing of heelies (shoes with wheels in the heels) at school. If a child does wear these
to school, the wheels must remain out of the shoes while the child is on campus.
Health Assistant/Nurse
If you intend to enroll a child in kindergarten, the immunization records for your child must indicate all
appropriate immunizations of DTaP, Polio, Varicella and MMR. See your health care provider or the Mesa
County Health Department now in order to complete the process before the new school year. For more
information call our office and ask for our Health Assistant.

Breakfast Is The Most Important Meal of the Day
Studies show that breakfast is the most important
meal of the day, especially for children. Eating
school breakfast improves children’s educational
performance, behavior, and health.
WHY INCREASE SCHOOL BREAKFAST
PARTICIPATION
• Children who eat a complete breakfast make fewer mistakes and work faster on math tests than children who eat a partial breakfast.
• Children who eat breakfast at school, closer to class and test-taking time, perform better on standardized tests than those who skip breakfast or eat breakfast at home.
BREAKFAST IMPROVES CHILDRENS’ OVERALL
HEALTH
• Children who eat breakfast tend to have more adequate nutrient intake than children who do not.
• Children and adolescents who eat breakfast are more likely to maintain a healthy body weight.
We appreciate your help in communicating the
importance of breakfast to our students.
Regards & thanks,
Dan Sharp

Peachjar and Flyer Distribution
District 51 is changing the way it delivers community enrichment
information to parents. Currently, non-profits send us printed
flyers, which are distributed to schools, then to students, then
arrive at home. This is a timely, costly, and outdated process that
we cannot continue.
Moving forward in February 2015 we are converting this process to an all-digital, email and online
process. Enrichment providers will provide their flyers in an electronic format and the District will email
these to parents via the emails you have on file with us for school-related communications.
We are using a tool called Peachjar to facilitate this process.
This system is used exclusively for distribution of district-approved flyers to keep parents informed about
school programs, activities, events, and enrichment opportunities. You will have an online interface where
you can manage the frequency in which you receive the flyers, and you can opt out of receiving the
flyers altogether. These flyers offer enrichment opportunities for students from non-profit organizations,
including sports, music, arts, scouting, theater, dance, swimming, clubs, camps, and other similar great
opportunities for school aged children.
In addition, schools will begin sending home flyers promoting their own events in this electronic manner.
For these important reasons,
we encourage you to look for
an email invitation to set-up
your account, and then actively
manage your account to receive
flyers on a schedule of your
choosing.
If you prefer to avoid this
altogether, email
[email protected]
from your email address.
