Dear Potential Cast Member,
We are pleased to announce auditions for PMT’s production of Shrek the Musical! Please read
these pages very carefully so that you have all of the information regarding auditions, rehearsals
and the show. There are important audition tips here on this page, so read and take note before
your audition!
You DO NOT have to live in Perrysburg to participate! Anyone ages 7 and over is encouraged to
audition! You must be 7 at the time of auditions to be considered. We will not be having a Children’s Choir for this
production, but there are a number of parts for all ages! Please look over the list of characters within this packet to see
details on all featured characters and ensemble members.
As a helpful guide to characterization and acting, we encourage everyone to watch the Original Broadway Cast perform
SHREK on stage! It is available on NETFLIX or you can rent/purchase the show on iTunes or anywhere online.
“Shrek the Musical” is an extremely character-driven show, featuring a number of fairytale creatures we all know and love.
Don’t be afraid to throw yourself into the character you’re auditioning for, you can’t go too far! Character voices and
dialects are necessary for the creative team to make casting and callback decisions, so make sure you commit to everything
you do during your audition!
During your audition, please do not dress up like a character. If you do, you’re telling the creative team who you think you
should be. Dress to help you feel the part you’re auditioning for, wear shoes similar to a character so your posture is similar,
wear a dress if the character wears a dress, dress IN THE STYLE of a character or the show, but by wearing a costume, you’re
removing the artistic team’s creativity of seeing you in other roles you may not have seen for yourself.
When you’re singing, whether it be for your initial audition or for callbacks, the most important thing to keep in mind is that
acting and intentions are everything. There is a reason you don’t see pop stars winning Tony Awards on Broadway, it’s not
about how you sound, it’s about why you’re singing, what you’re singing for and what you’re trying to accomplish thru the
music. When a musical breaks into song it is because of the actor’s heightened emotion. Whether it be good or bad, the
actor has reached a point where speaking dialogue is no longer an option, the only thing they can do is sing. Keep that in
mind when you’re preparing for auditions or callbacks. This is one of the most common mistakes in theatre, even with
professional actors at the highest levels!
During your audition, be sure to focus on a point ABOVE the heads of the directors. Sing to your invisible scene partner,
not us. This will keep you in the moment and eliminate worry.
In an effort to increase participation and limit potential conflicts, we are reducing the amount of rehearsal days this year.
Later in this packet you’ll find a calendar detailing rehearsal times, you will not be called to all rehearsals. Detailed rehearsal
schedules will be released 2 weeks at a time so families are able to plan other commitments if necessary.
We know schedules are hectic, and you may have conflicts with sports, dance teams, clubs, vacations, etc. Please take the
time to list all conflicts on the audition form. When one cast member is missing from rehearsal it affects the others in the
show, the productivity of rehearsals and ultimately, the final product! Conflicts are a huge part when considering roles for
cast members.
Make sure you take note of everything in this packet, as it will help to answer any questions you may have. Also, please fill
out the forms in this packet and make sure to bring them to your audition!

GENERAL AUDITIONS | March 14th, 10am – 3pm & March 15th, 12pm – 4pm
AUDITIONS BY APPOINTMENT! Please signup online for a 5 minute time slot on either day in advance of the audition. If
you don’t sign-up you will be worked in around other appointments. Time slots are offered March 14th, 10am – 2:45pm &
March 15th, 12pm – 3:30pm. Visit www.perrysburgmusicaltheatre.org for the link to sign-up.

Auditionees Ages 7 through 10: Please prepare the song selection, STORY OF MY LIFE, found on the Perrysburg
Musical Theatre Website. We recommend using a character voice for your audition!

Auditionees Ages 11 and older: Please prepare 16-32 bars (or about 1 minute) of any Musical Theatre song in the
style of “SHREK the Musical”. Please bring clearly marked sheet music, in the appropriate key that you will provide
to an accompanist. As there are many different styles of songs in the production, please pick one that best
showcases your voice as well as the character you are most interested in. In addition, if you’d like to be considered
for a lead role or featured Fairytale Creature, please prepare one of the four storybook monologues, found in this
packet, in the style of your preferred character. Please reference the “Featured Characters” page in this packet to
see which characters have features in the show. While memorization is not mandatory, we do encourage it to
promote a successful and engaging audition. If you have multiple characters you’d like to audition for, please just
choose one for your monologue.
INVITED DANCE CALL | March 15th, 4pm – 5pm
You may receive a recommendation ticket for the dance auditions during your initial audition. If given a ticket,
please attend the DANCE CALL. Please wear comfortable clothing in which to move. Dance shoes and clothes are
not required. You may be required to stay for the entire hour, others may be dismissed after the initial call around
4:20/4:30 pm. Keep in mind, not all roles dance in this show, so if you’re not called to the invited dance call that
doesn’t mean you’re not in the show!
INVITED CALLBACKS | March 21st, 10am – 3pm & March 22nd, 12pm – 5pm
A Callback list and callback details, including specific sides and songs to prepare, will be posted on the Perrysburg

PMT is a non-profit organization and we rely greatly on the participation on our community and cast members. The cost of putting
together this show is over $40,000!!! Because of this we are requiring that all cast members sell at least $100 worth of ads or lines in
the program. If you have more than one member of your immediate family in our production you only need to sell $200 per family, not
$100 for each cast member. The more you sell, the more money we put into the production for costumes, set, lighting and more!
You will be able to pick up sponsorship sheets during the Cast Materials Day on April 6th.
This year we are asking for a donation to help cover the cost of costumes and other materials. We understand that a fee in addition to
the Sponsorship Requirement is a lot to ask, so we are not requiring a fee. Instead, we ask any who are willing to contribute to please
do so. The suggested donation amount is $50, but anything you’re willing to contribute would be greatly appreciated! No casting
decisions are based on whether you pay a fee or not, we will not be collecting fees until registration day.
If you’re unable to pay the fee, please help us out by selling more in advertisement! Every little bit will help!
PMT strives to have gorgeous sets and a high production value in order to provide the community with top-notch performances. In
order to do this we need your help! If you are 16 or older we ask that you help us any days you can to build the set. If you have parents
or adult friends that would be interested in lending a hand to help build please let us know! The more help we have, the better!
We will begin to build our set in April. All cast members 16 and up will be required to attend at least 2 set days to help us build! The
more help we have, the more time we can spend on the small details of the set that will really make the show come to life. In June, we
will be rehearsing and building at Perrysburg High School, so if you’re not called to rehearsal you can come and help build. Parents, if
you drop off kids and have time to help it would be greatly appreciated!
Strike will be held directly after the Sunday afternoon performance. Duties for strike will be assigned for every cast and crew member.
Strike attendance is required for all cast and crew. If you do not attend strike you will not be able to participate in next season’s
productions. If you have a conflict, company management must know at least 1 week in advance and it must be approved based on the
discretion of the Artistic Director.
Knowing that everyone is volunteering to participate in our show in addition to their school, job and family, we are attempting to
condense the days you may have rehearsal. See the calendar on the next page for details, as we have dropped rehearsals down to three
days a week in April & May, and five days a week in June once we are on the stage.
Our hope is that you list all conflicts and plan ahead, but in order to maximize rehearsals, we will be releasing the details of who will be
called to which rehearsal days, two weeks at a time. This way we can maximize our rehearsal time when planning around end of school
year functions, concerts and other events.

SHOW CONTRACT
I agree to abide by the following:
●
Rehearsal will begin on time. I will arrive 5 – 10 minutes early and be prepared to start right on time.
●
If I am a minor, my parents agree to pick me up on time from all of my rehearsals.
●
We are requesting, but not requiring, an optional participation donation. If you’re willing to contribute, checks can be written
to PMT and given to our Treasurer, David Roland-Miller, at the Cast Materials Day or at the first rehearsal you attend. The
suggested donation amount is $50 and is not required by any cast member.
●
We expect all cast, crew and production staff to help with the financial part of the production by selling at least $100 in ads,
family lines or sponsorship. Donations in the name of the cast member can be part of that amount. Our show costs over
$40,000 to produce! If you have more than one member of your immediate family in the cast you only need to sell $200 per
family.
●
I understand that I MUST LIST my conflicts with the presented rehearsal schedule on my audition sheet. I also understand that I
am allowed three total unexcused absences (although not encouraged). When I miss my fourth rehearsal, I will be replaced.
●
I understand that I may not miss ANY rehearsal time from June 15th – 28th for any reason (except a death in the family or being
very ill) or I will be replaced.
●
I will clean up after myself and not eat or drink in the PHS auditorium or Commodore Building. Snacks can be consumed in the
hallway outside of the auditorium. PMT is a guest of Perrysburg Schools and we want to be invited back.
●
I will respect the other actors and the Directors by staying quiet and listening for my turn on stage.
●
I will be issued a script and assigned a number at the Cast Materials Day. I will take notes on my blocking, dances and musical
numbers with pencil only, and erase all marks in the book when the show is complete. I will return the book immediately after
the Sunday show to a box marked “scripts” on the stage. If I fail to do this, I will be charged $25 for book replacement.
●
If I am cast as any lead role, I understand that I will be needed for promotional events outside of the rehearsal schedule.
●
I understand that if I am over 16 years of age, I must participate in at least 2 days of set construction. Sign-up sheets will be
made available for specific set building days. If I sign up, but do not attend, it will count as an unexcused absence.
ALL OF THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS YOURS TO KEEP.
PLEASE FILL OUT THE NEXT TWO PAGES AND BRING THEM WITH YOU TO YOUR AUDITION.

FEMALES CHOOSE OPTION #1 OR OPTION #2
OPTION #1
I am so sick of being called the wicked queen! I am not wicked- I’m obsessive. There’s a big difference. All I ever wanted was
to be the fairest in the land. Do you have any idea what it’s like to constantly be around someone you know looks better
than you? It’s terrible! Besides, I was doing a favor for all of humankind. That girl is just too happy for her own good! All I’m
saying is that it wasn’t completely my fault, but I’m still destined to go down in fairy tale history as “the Wicked Queen.”
OPTION #2
Last night I had the strangest dream, my fairy godmother sprinkled happy dust over Anastasia and Drizella, and they were
so nice to me! I know that was only a dream, but it was so nice that I think I’ll try to pretend that it really happened.
Whenever they are mean to me, I’ll pretend they actually said something sweet and kind. “Sure, I’ll wash you dresses,
Drizella… I would love to polish your shoes, Anastasia. Right away dear sisters, thank you!”(giggles) did you see their faces!
They must think I’ve gone mad!
MALES CHOOSE OPTION #3 OR OPTION #4
OPTION #3
Ahhh, I love this crummy weather! Oh, yes, isn’t just heaven when it’s all gloomy and dreary like this. Yep, this weather is
my cup of mud. Spring and warmer days? Forget it feather face! Now I’ve done it! I’ve made you mad! There’s nothing
better than an angry face in a beautifully dreary place! Guess you think I should leave, huh? Oh yeah, YOU should scram!
(waits for person to leave) well if you’re not leaving, I am! Have a perfectly rotten day!
OPTION #4
You say the king should have the highest respect in his kingdom? I agree. I am the king, and I shall have your respect! A
king’s head should be the highest in his kingdom- so sit down already! I can’t stand forever. Now I will tell you why I want
to be respected. Not because I was born with royal blood, or that I own the most land, or have the most political powerno! Justice! Above all justice!
