This year’s Gallery Route
One’s Artists in the Schools
Program is spearheaded by
the exuberant Madeline
Nieto Hope, who asked the
students to fully explore
these two questions: “How
do trees contribute to a
healthy environment?” and
“What do trees and people

To a n s w e r t h o s e
questions, the students
from the Shoreline Unified
School District, the Tomales
Ba y Yo u t h C e n t e r a n d
the Dance Palace’s AfterSchool Art Program went
on a quest to thoroughly
explore the environment

Tomales Bay Watershed, as
well as studying the health
habits of people. Afterwards,
the students compared the
similarities between the two.
“TREE PEOPLE”
is the culmination of the
students’ research, expressed
in various forms of artwork
and by writing stories or
poems. By understanding
one tiny strand of the tree’s
eco-system, the students
can better understand
themselves. The children, we
hope, will see that “I belong
