2015 LUMBERJACK CHALLENGE
ENTRY RULES
1. Location and Time. The 2015 Lumberjack Challenge Bowling Tournament (“Tournament”) is
held at Brunswick Zone River Grove 3111 River Road, River Grove, IL 60171 from April 30, 2015 to
September 6, 2015 ( or such other facility as Tournament Sponsor may determine as adequate)(together
with the owner/operator/manager thereof, “Facility”).
2. Tournament Sponsor. The sponsor of this Tournament is AMF Bowling Centers, Inc. dba
Bowlmor AMF Centers (“Tournament Sponsor” or “Sponsor”) with an address at: 222 West 44th Street,
New York, NY 10036.
3. Eligibility. The Tournament is open to both men and women of all ages. A person may enter the
Tournament up to five (5) times – however, entrants may only be awarded one (1) 4-Game prize and
one (1) 8-Game prize. Any entrant who is a minor is required to have and deliver written authorization
from his/her parent or legal guardian with his/her entry form. PBA members who have either bowled in
more than two (2) national contests in the past three (3) years or won a national PBA contest are
ineligible to participate. Each entrant is responsible for submitting their own entry form accurately
during the Submission Period (as defined below).
4. Play Rules. Unless otherwise provided herein, the playing rules (available here) of the U.S.
Bowling Congress will govern the Tournament. This Tournament is not sanctioned by the U.S.
Bowling Congress. The Tournament is a “9-pin no tap” contest (i.e., any bowler who knocks
down 9 or more pins on his or her first ball is awarded a strike). Heavyweight pins will be used.
a. Each time a participant enters the Tournament he/she is entitled bowl four (4) games
across 8 lanes.
b. Participants entering the Tournament once will be eligible to win the 4-Game prize.
Participants entering the Tournament more than once will also be eligible to win the 8Game prize, and their scores will be determined by adding the two highest 4-game
series.
c. Participants must report at least 30 minutes prior to commencement of competition at
the Tournament.
Late arriving or “no-show” participants will receive no
accommodation for scoring, refunds or otherwise. Failing to report more than 10
minutes after scheduled time to play results in disqualification from the Tournament.
d. Scores will be entered on official Tournament recap sheets after each game.
Participants must sign or initial each recap sheet after each game and submit the same
to the Tournament Sponsor. Such signature shall constitute participant’s certification as
to the accuracy of the score.
e. Limit of two (2) bowling balls per participant. All bowling balls are required to satisfy
the specifications (available here) of the U.S. Bowling Congress. Tournament Sponsor
may examine balls at any time used or to be used in play for weight, balance, size,
surface hardness, etc.
Any participants found to be violating this rule will be
immediately disqualified and any entry fees or prizes will be forfeited.
f. Tournament Sponsor may terminate or suspend the play of any participant causing
unreasonable delays, disorderly conduct, or otherwise violating the code of conduct of
the Facility.
g. Tournament Sponsor has sole and absolute discretion to accept or reject any entry of a
participant in the Tournament. All decisions of Tournament Sponsor is final, binding and
non-appealable.
5. Awards. The list of awards are set forth here and assume approximately 500 entrants to the
Tournament. The Tournament has sole discretion to change the awards based upon the number of
entrants actually entered in the Tournament. In past years, 1 award was given to every 8 participants
(although this may not be representative of the 2015 Tournament). Certain awards may have express
eligibility requirements. All participants will compete equally for the 4-Game prizes and, in the case of a
participant entered more than once in the Tournament, 8-Game prizes. Additionally, female
participants will compete amongst each other for 4-Game (Women) prizes and, in the case of a female
participant entered more than once in the Tournament, 8-Game (Women) prizes. Prizes will be awarded
on each pair of lanes based upon the highest scores for all participants (4 Games and 8 Games) and
female participants (4 Games and 8 Games) on such lanes. Participants may only be awarded one (1)
prize 4-Game prize and, in the case of a participant entered more than once in the Tournament, one (1)
8-Game prize. The awards that may be awarded to the eligible winner(s) are not transferable,
redeemable, or exchangeable for any other prize or award. If a winner cannot be contacted or is
disqualified for any reason, the Sponsor reserves the right to determine an alternate winner or not to
award that winner’s award, in its sole discretion. Awards will be awarded up to approximately 8 weeks
after confirmation of the affidavit is complete.
6. Force Majeure and Mechanical Interruptions. In the event force majeure events, mechanical or
technological interruptions occur, Tournament officials will attempt to transfer the participant to
another bowling lane or suspend play for another day/time. At the discretion of Tournament officials, if,
during an individual game, such event occurs, participant will receive a score equal to 10% his/her Entry
Average per uncompleted frame, rounding down to the nearest whole number. If a participant cannot
be rescheduled, the participant’s fees will be credited towards next year’s Petersen Classic Tournament.
7. Entry Fee. Each participant is required to deliver to Tournament Sponsor his/her completed and
entry form, together with a check in the entry fee amount made payable to AMF Bowling Centers, Inc.
The entry fee for each participant is $45.00 and such fees are allocated as follows: $30.00 (Tournament
award fund), $9.00 (bowling fee), and $6.00 (Tournament expenses). For participants entering the
Tournament more than once, each additional entry will require an entry fee of $35.00 and such fees are
allocated as follows: $20.00 (Tournament award fund), $9.00 (bowling fee), and $6.00 (Tournament
expenses). All entry fees are non-cancelable and nonrefundable.
8. Submitted Information. The Sponsor and Facility may solicit or request information from
participants in connection with the Tournament. Any information received by the Sponsor and Facility
shall be become property of Sponsor and Facility. The Tournament is subject to the Facility’s website
terms of use (http://amf.com/terms) and privacy policy (http://amf.com/privacy) which are
incorporated herein by reference. Without limiting the foregoing, if the entry for the Tournament
includes any material submitted from the entrant, including but not limited to, consumer created
content, by submitting the entry: (1) entrant agrees that disclosure thereof is gratuitous, unsolicited and
without restriction and will not place the Facility or Sponsor under any fiduciary or other obligation, that
the Facility and Sponsor are free to disclose the ideas on a non-confidential basis to anyone or otherwise
use the ideas without any additional compensation to entrant; (2) entrant acknowledges that, by
acceptance of entrant’s submission, the Facility and Sponsor do not waive any rights to use similar or
related ideas previously known to Facility, Sponsor, or developed by their employees, or obtained from
sources other than participant; (3) entrant is verifying that entrant is the owner and producer of the
submitted material and that no third party ownership rights exist to any material submitted, and (4)
participant is hereby granting the Facility and Sponsor a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royaltyfree, sub-licensable (through multiple tiers) right and license to use, publish, reproduce, display,
perform, adapt, modify, distribute, have distributed and promote such content in any form, in all media
now known or hereinafter created, anywhere in the world, for any purpose.
9. Entry Forms. Neither Facility or Sponsor is responsible for lost, late, illegible, stolen, mutilated,
incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, misdirected, postage-due, technically corrupted or garbled entries or
communication, which will be disqualified, or for problems of any kind whether mechanical, human or
electronic. Only fully completed entries are eligible. Proof of submission will not be deemed to be proof
of receipt by Sponsor.
10. Start/End Dates. Tournament entry submissions may be delivered only during the Submission
Period. Entries received before or after the Submissions Period will be voided and ineligible for
consideration. The Submissions Period for this Tournament begins 12:00 am EST on November 1, 2014
and ends 11:59 pm EST on September 1, 2015. If entries are permitted by mail or courier, all such
entries must be postmarked no earlier than the first day of the Submissions Period and no later than the
last day of the Submissions Period and received within seven (7) days after expiration of the Submissions
Period.
11. Other Eligibility Requirements. Participation is open only to legal residents of the 50 United
States, the District of Columbia, Canada and Puerto Rico, who are 18 or older as of date of entry. If the
Tournament is open to minors, a parent or guardian of any participant who is a minor must sign a
release on behalf of the minor to be eligible to receive a prize, but the Sponsor reserves the right to
refuse to award a prize to or on behalf of any minor. Void outside of the 50 United States, the District
of Columbia, Canada and Puerto Rico, and where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. All federal,
state and local laws and regulations apply.
12. Binding Nature. By entering the Tournament, entrants fully and unconditionally agree to be
bound by these rules and the decisions of the officials and Sponsor, which will be final, binding and nonappealable in all matters relating to the Tournament.
13. Notification. The potential winner will be notified by email, phone and UPS courier service or
the United States Postal Service or other communication, and will be required to sign and return, where
legal, a notarized Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release within fourteen (14) days of prize
notification. If the winner is considered a minor in his/her jurisdiction of residence, Liability/Publicity
Release must be signed by his/her parent or legal guardian and such award will be delivered to minor’s
parent/legal guardian and awarded in the name of parent/legal guardian. After verification of the
Affidavit, the award will be mailed using UPS courier services or United States Postal Service, or emailed
as applicable. If any award or award notification is returned as undeliverable, if any winner rejects
his/her award or in the event of noncompliance with these Tournament rules and requirements, such
award will be forfeited and an alternate winner may be selected from all remaining eligible participants.
Upon award forfeiture, no compensation will be given. The potential winner is subject to verification by
Sponsor, whose decisions are final and binding in all matters related to the Tournament. A participant is
not a winner of any award unless and until participant’s eligibility, and the potential winner has been
verified and participant has been notified that verification is complete.
14. Conditions. All federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners. Sponsor
may require winners to submit documentation to permit it to comply with all applicable state, federal
and local tax reporting and all prizes will be net of any taxes Sponsor is required by law to withhold.
Participation in Tournament and acceptance of prize constitutes each participant’s and winner’s
permission for Sponsor and Facility to use entrant’s, participant’s and winner’s name, address (city and
state), likeness, photograph, picture, portrait, voice, biographical information and/or any statements
made by each participant and winner regarding the Tournament, Facility or Sponsor for advertising,
marketing, promotional or business purposes without notice or additional compensation, except where
prohibited by law. By participating, entrants, participants and winners agree to release and hold
harmless Sponsor, Facility, its advertising and promotion agencies and their respective parent
companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees,
officers and directors (“Released Parties”), from any and all liability, for loss, harm, damage, injury, cost
or expense whatsoever including without limitation, property damage, personal injury and/or death
which may occur in connection with, preparation for, travel to, or participation in Tournament, or
possession, acceptance and/or use or misuse of any award or participation in any Tournament-related
activity and for any claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy and merchandise
delivery. Neither Sponsor nor Facility is responsible if Tournament cannot take place or if any award
cannot be awarded due to acts of war, natural disasters, weather, acts of terrorism or events beyond
reasonable control of Sponsor or Facility. Participants who do not comply with these Official Rules, or
attempt to interfere with this Tournament in any way shall be disqualified.
15. Other. In case of dispute as to the identity of any participant, entry will be declared made by
the registered name and address on such entry. Any potential winner may be requested to provide
Sponsor with proof that such person is the winner. Any other attempted form of entry is prohibited; no
automatic, programmed; robotic or similar means of entry are permitted. Sponsor, Facility, its affiliates,
partners and promotion and advertising agencies are not responsible for technical, hardware, software,
telephone or other communications malfunctions, errors or failures of any kind, lost or unavailable
network connections, web site, Internet, or ISP availability, unauthorized human intervention, traffic
congestion, incomplete or inaccurate capture of entry information (regardless of cause) or failed,
incomplete, garbled, jumbled or delayed computer transmissions which may limit one’s ability to enter
the Tournament, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer relating
to or resulting from participating in this Tournament or downloading any materials in this Tournament.
Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, extend or suspend this
Tournament should (in its sole discretion) virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or
other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the integrity, administration, security, fairness or
proper conduct or functioning of the Tournament. In such event, Sponsor reserves the right in its sole
discretion to award the award from among the eligible participants up to the time of the impairment.
Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds, in its sole discretion,
to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Tournament or web site used in
connection therewith. Sponsor may prohibit a participant from participating in the Tournament or
winning a prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines that said participant is attempting to undermine
the legitimate operation of the Tournament by cheating, hacking, deception, or other unfair playing
practices (including the use of automated quick entry programs) or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten
or harass any other participants or Tournament or Facility representatives. In the event of any
inconsistency or lack of clarity in the operations or functioning of the Tournament, Sponsor shall have
the sole and exclusive right to resolve the same in its sole determination which decision is final, binding,
non-appealable.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE USED IN
CONNECTION WITH THE TOURNAMENT OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE
TOURNAMENT MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT
BE MADE, THE SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE
FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
The Released Parties are not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether
caused by entrants, participants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated
with or utilized in the Tournament; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to
malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3)
unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Tournament; (4) technical or
human error which may occur in the administration of the Tournament or the processing of entries; or
(5) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or
in part, from entrant’s participation in the Tournament or receipt or use or misuse of any prize. If for any
reason an entrant’s entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed
or corrupted, entrant’s sole remedy is another entry in the Tournament. No more than the stated
number of prizes will be awarded.
Except where prohibited, entrants and participants agree that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and
causes of action arising out of or connected with this Tournament or any prize awarded shall be resolved
individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by a state or federal court located
in New York, New York; (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-ofpocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Tournament, but in no event
attorneys’ fees; and (3) under no circumstances will participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and
participant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages
and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have
damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction,
validity, interpretation and enforceability of these official rules, or the rights and obligations of the
participant and Sponsor in connection with the Tournament, shall be governed by, and construed in
accordance with, the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict
of law rules (whether of the State of New York or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the
application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of New York.
16. Use of Data. Sponsor and Facility may be collecting personal data about entrants and
participants online to the extent a website is used in connection with the Tournament, in accordance
with its privacy policy. Please review the Sponsor’s privacy policy as referenced above. By participating
in the Tournament, entrants and participants hereby agree to Sponsor’s and Facility’s collection and
usage of their personal information and acknowledge that they have read and accepted Sponsor’s
privacy policy.
17. List of Winners. To obtain a list of winners, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope within ten
days after expiration of the Tournament to: Bowlmor-AMF, 222 West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036
