Pet Network
Humane Society
Letter from the Executive Director
Dear Friends of Pet Network Humane Society,
It has been 4 months since I became Executive Director of Pet Network. I
feel like I have the dream job. It isn’t easy, and what we see sometimes can
be sad or cruel, but the rewards of our life-saving work are immeasurable.
Pet Network offers so many wonderful programs and services for our
community. Our overnight boarding and day care services offer a safe and
playful environment for your best friend to stay while you travel or handle
other responsibilities. Our repeat canine clients look forward to their visits
and the group play time. We also offer in-home care for those pets that
feel more comfortable staying alone in their familiar surroundings. Our
retail Pet Store offers leashes, collars, toys and other necessities.
Spring 2015
To help fund our rescue efforts, we opened the Second Chance Thrift
Store at Pet Network. This highly rated shop offers quality clothing, jewelry
and slightly used purses and home items, thanks to generous donations
from our supporters. Visit us daily from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Of course, we are best known for helping thousands of abandoned dogs
and cats find lasting love and a safe place to call home. We are on track
to match over 500 pets with lucky new families again this year.
I’m delighted to announce that Dr. Kim Barnes is returning to Incline
Village to offer veterinary care to the public. Barnes Veterinary Services
at Pet Network will be opening April 1st. Many of you already know Dr.
Barnes as a skilled practitioner and a compassionate animal lover.
As a former teacher, I have a great passion for education. I am committed
to revitalizing Pet Network’s programs. Our focus will be on understanding
how animals communicate; safety issues; responsibilities of pet ownership;
and the importance of sterilization to stop the overpopulation that results
in the senseless killing of innocent animals every year.
I am grateful for your past and continued support. Whether you adopt
a pet, use our services, refer friends, shop with us, volunteer or provide
financial support, you are helping save lives. You matter to all of us, and
we thank you.
Sincerely, Jason Stipp

Second Chance Thrift Store has received a facelift! Our amazing

champagne glasses, a rare book, a unique gift for a friend or an
evening gown for a gala, Second Chance has it all. Check out our
Facebook page for upcoming sales and discounts. We are solely
staffed by volunteers and 100% of the proceeds help Pet Network to
rescue hundreds of dogs and cats each year. Donations are greatly

Pet Network Brings Hope to Hundreds of Animals
It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon in late October, Pet Network staff members were preparing to walk out the
door for lunch when we received the call: a litter of newborn puppies was found in a commercial dumpster in
Susanville, CA and they needed help fast. Our first thought was “How could this be happening again?!” Last
year our dedicated staff, Board members and volunteers stepped up to care for a litter of 10 puppies found in
a dumpster in South Lake Tahoe. This time we knew what we had to do. Staff members immediately sprang
into action: calling volunteers to secure foster homes for the newborns in need of constant care and bottle
feeding, assembling a lengthy list of supplies and finally, making the
3 hour drive to Susanville to pick up the puppies. The long process
of raising 7 newborn puppies without a mom had begun (yet again).
Through 6 long weeks the puppies grew healthier and more robust
each day. Along the way they garnished a lot of media attention.
Seven endearing little puppies, whose life started in the most dismal
of circumstances, had survived and captured the hearts of animal
lovers across America. This story has made national news, but it is
merely one example of the kind of work we do every day. Four tiny
kittens were abandoned in a box near an office building in Reno just
before Halloween. Named the Hocus Pocus litter, one of the kittens
has found a wonderful home, while the last three kittens are still
eagerly awaiting adoption.
We are here for animals in need every day. We strive to end the
euthanasia of adoptable animals and assure that they find forever
homes with loving families. Each animal is provided with medical
care, vaccinations, micro-chips, food, socialization and lots of love
during their stay with us. It is our hope that each animal will be given
a second chance at life, love and happiness.
We certainly can’t do it alone. Your support ensures that we can
care for the animals that come through our doors each day and
continue to do so for years to come. Every dollar helps save a life.
Please consider making a donation today! Donations can also be
made online by credit card at http://petnetwork.org/make-donation.
CAN’T ADOPT? If you can not fit one more animal into your home you can still save a life!

Can You Help?
We’re Looking for Our Forever Homes!
Meet Blossom, one of the most
affectionate kitties you will ever
have the chance to encounter at Pet
Network. She is a true indoor lap
cat, but enjoys to bird watch out the
window and play with toy mice.
Whether she is lavishing you with
attention or being a couch potato
and lounging around on her cat
tower, she will always be there to
welcome you home with an excited
meow and a purr.
DOLLY
Dolly is a young and playful dog who
doesn’t always make a good first
impression but if you give her a
chance to warm up, you will quickly
find out that she is a lovable 45
pound lap dog. She knows many
commands and loves to play fetch. She
originally came to Pet Network pregnant.
Here she gave birth to 8 beautiful puppies
and is now available for adoption. If you
are looking for an active medium-size
dog please come by and visit her.
KILO
This is Kilo, a lovable pit-bull mix.
He came to us a few months ago from
Lassen County. He loves to hike, play
with other dogs, and cuddle. Kilo is
extremely loyal and friendly. Stop by and
take Kilo for a walk, and you’ll fall in
love with his exuberant energy and
lovable personality.

HOCUS-POCUS LITTER
We are the Hocus Pocus litter – Max, Sarah and Winifred! We arrived
at Pet Network just before Halloween after being abandoned in
a cardboard box outside of a business in Reno. We were fortunate
enough that Pet Network was able to take us in and start loving us,
helping us to come out of our shells. While at Pet Network we were
diagnosed with the calicivirus, which is incurable but very manageable
by simply taking Lysine on a daily basis. We are now 4 months old and
have grown into absolutely wonderful, loveable, affectionate, sweet
and talkative kitties. We absolutely love when people come to play and
love us, especially children. We enjoy playing with other people and are
having a blast playing around with each other. It would be great if we
could be adopted together, but each of us would also do well living in a
single cat household. We would love to meet you and see if we are the
right addition to your family.
CHLOE
Chloe is an intelligent and attentive
pointer mix who has, unfortunately
called Pet Network home twice now.
She has been surrendered due to
owner circumstances, but this did
not dampen her lively spirit. Her tail
rarely stops wagging and she enjoys
exploring the outdoors while being
loyal to her active companion. If you
are looking for a hiking buddy then
stop by and meet this sweet girl.
Volunteers of the Quarter
Rocky & Kim Woods
Rocky and Kim Woods are two amazing volunteers who
have really made a difference in the lives of the animals
at Pet Network. Either together, or individually, they are
here almost every day to take one of our shelter dogs for
a walk. When asked what makes his experience here as a
volunteer so memorable, Rocky said, “Well, it’s the highlight
of my day...I walk in and I’m happy right away being around
all the great Pet Net folks...and all the crazy DOGS! What’s
not to enjoy? You go into a kennel to take your pal out
for a walk, and he or she goes absolutely nuts from being
so excited you are there! Now that’s hard to beat!” We
are so thankful to Kim and Rocky for their dedication. Kim
recently expressed her love for the dogs at Pet Network,
“Every single time my husband and/or I walk a dog from
the Pet Network, we get to smile and laugh out loud. We
get to meet people on the trail. We get to feel completely
appreciated (by the dog and the Pet Network crew).”
Steve Kroll
Steve Kroll has been a friend to Pet Network for many
years. When Pet Network was in need of a foster home
for the first round of newborn dumpster puppies, Steve
stepped right up. Then, nearly a year later, he stepped up
again for the arduous, yet deeply rewarding task of being
a puppy foster for the second time. Steve reflected about
his experience...
To learn more about how you can
get involved, please visit
http://petnetwork.org/volunteer
“The Pet Network and its network of volunteers and donors,
who so generously support it with their time, money and
goods, are dedicated to doing what they can to rescue
animals brutally cast into a trash can and especially those
who lost their owners and their sense of home and place.
When I got their email entitled ‘Newborn puppies in need of foster care’, I felt privileged to be able to help
out a second time. There is an unduplicatable joy associated with watching these blind and helpless little
creatures enter a world where similarly loving humans adopt them. I hope readers will contribute to the
Pet Network by giving one of its many animals the love of a new home they so desperately yearn for.”
Thank you Steve, Rocky and Kim for the difference you’ve make to the many animals that come
through the doors of Pet Network. We can’t thank you enough for your selfless dedication!

Did You Know?
According to Nevada state law NRS 574.195, it is unlawful to leave any animal inside of a
vehicle under extreme heat or cold. According to the Washoe County Sherriff’s Office, “temperatures inside a closed automobile can easily rise to 20 degrees or warmer than outside
temperatures which could prove deadly to a pet.” Officers have the right to remove and confiscate any
animal left inside of a vehicle under unsafe conditions. Please be safe and leave your pet at home, or at a
boarding facility.
Boarding News
Pet Network Boarding is excited to introduce Playtime Punch
Cards for our regular daycare clients! We have 10 and 20-day
punch cards available. You’ll receive a 15% savings with the
10-day card and a 20% savings with the 20-day card! It’s now
more affordable than ever to let Fido run with the pack while
you’re at work.
Can’t transport your dog or cat to our boarding facility? No
problem! Pet Network Boarding offers In-Home Care services
for even the busiest folks. Schedule a walk for your dog while
you’re at work or an in-home cat feeding while you’re out of
town. Due to the overwhelming success of our in-home cat care services, we have decided to eliminate
all of our on-site cat boarding. Your kitty will be much more comfortable and less stressed while our
bonded professionals care for them in their own environment.
Attention SNC Students! Pet Network Boarding now offers doggy daycare for Sierra Nevada College
students for only $10 on Wednesdays! No need to leave your pup home while you’re at school, drop off
as early as 7:30am. Students must show current student I.D. to receive the discount.
We are also very excited to be installing a beautiful new iron fence in front of our building to ensure the
safe delivery of your fury friends to our large outdoor play yard. Construction will begin this spring.

Many of us have experienced losing
someone close to us. A parent, child,
grandparent or friend or even a beloved
pet. As animal lovers many of us tend to
surround ourselves with fellow animal
lovers. You can opt to have your loved
one or yourself remembered by passing
on the gift of love and life. Many of our
members have chosen to have donations
directed to the Pet Network in lieu of or in
addition to the traditional gift of flowers.
We will recognize your memorial donation
in our quarterly newsletter, and send
personal letters of thanks to the individuals
who donated, as well as sending donation
acknowledgments to the family member
of your choice. Please feel free to use this
