Each team member is expected to abide by these guidelines and rules. Each parent is expected to support these guidelines and rules. PRACTICE SESSIONS On the first Sunday of each month we invite family & friends to join us for our "PARENT VIEWING DAY." Immediately following this “Parent Viewing Day,” there will be an open forum for parents to meet with one of the Phoenix coaches. This informal meeting is a great opportunity to bring forward any questions or concerns. The remaining practices are considered "Closed." This helps the coaches maintain team cooperation and also helps the skaters stay focused. Additional viewing dates may be available at the discretion of the team coach when the programs are completed. Notification will come through Team Managers in a timely fashion. ATTENDANCE To ensure the safety of our skaters and to encourage competition readiness and consistency, attendance is mandatory at all off-ice and on-ice sessions. Attendance and tardiness will be taken by the team managers and recorded on permanent record. If an absence or tardiness from a practice is required for any reason, you must contact your Team Manager as soon as possible. Excessive tardiness and/or absences may result in not skating at a competition and/or exhibition. The coaches of each team will determine the definition of the term excessive. ABSENCES will NOT be tolerated two weeks before each competition. This is for the safety and success of all the skaters. AUTHORITY Together the Directors and Coaches make all skating related decisions for the teams (costumes, competition schedules, travel schedules, training schedules, etc.). Each team will have their own manager and the Phoenix General Managers will over see all team operations. BEHAVIOR The synchronized skating team members must listen to AND obey all instructions given during practice and / or competitions. Their full attention and respect must be given to the Coaches and Managers at all times. If a team member consistently misbehaves during a practice, he/she will be dismissed from the practice. The skaters must be made aware that they are young ladies / men that represent a team and must be on their best behavior at all times, including, while chatting on line and sending e-mail. The members are part of a team, NOT individual skaters. If a problem arises between both Coach and skater, or between skaters, please bring this to the attention of your Manager or General Managers. They will then discuss it with the Director and Coaches and get back to you with an answer / solution. COMPETITION RULES 1. All rebates earned can go directly toward your skater’s OnyxPhoenix account. What is scrip? Scrip is gift cards. They’re the same gift cards you can buy at the store, except purchasing them through our program earns YOU money! How does it work? It’s simple -- Scrip participating retailers offer rebates on cards purchased through the Onyx-Phoenix Synchronized Skating scrip program and YOU keep the rebate. You purchase the cards at face value; the cards are redeemed at face value, but the rebate provided by the retailer can be credited directly into your Onyx-Phoenix skater’s account!! Used with diligence, Scrip is an easy way to significantly reduce your skating costs – especially when you recruit family and friends to shop with Scrip, too. The beauty of Scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for your skater’s account without spending a single additional penny. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with Scrip at the stores that participate in the Scrip program. And Scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline, dining, travel and more. Onyx-Phoenix Synchronized Skating is excited to offer you this opportunity to reduce your costs and we hope you use it to its full potential! Any questions should be directed to Dawn Steffens – [email protected] TEAM TRAVEL At Phoenix Synchronized Skating, it is one of our top priorities to keep our sport affordable and convenient. For performances and competitions, each family will be able to decide on the mode of transportation best suited for them, and will be responsible for prompt arrival on a designated date, time and location. Rationale: 1. To permit families to select mode of transportation best suited to their budget and personal preference 2. To maximize travel savings per family / skater. WHY is Group Travel no longer suitable? Because AIRLINES HAVE MADE IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TRAVEL WITH A GROUP RESERVATION. Some examples of the challenges we’ve faced in recent years are: • Group bookings limit stand-by options • There is an additional per ticket fee added for each person within a group reservation • Having to make group reservations for flights so far in advance results in higher priced tickets for group travel. • Restrictions apply that don’t allow individuals to redeem their "air miles’ for tickets with group travel booking - Flight options & connections are limited in Group Reservations Why is Travel Policy so great? • Choose your preferred mode of transportation • Use your air miles to purchase flights • Stay a few extra days • Saves one full day of bus fees at final destination • Families can choose to travel with other families to cut down on travel costs even further! • Upon arrival to hotel, skaters will be provided with on-site transportation for the duration of the competition • Lodging will be secured by the Phoenix Travel coordinator TRAVEL AND ROOMING POLICY 1. All skaters must arrive at designated location on dates and times posted well in advance of each competition. 2. All skaters will be responsible for planning transportation to and from all competitions. All on site transportation and lodging will be secured by Phoenix in accordance with the competition organizing committee and / or U.S. Figure Skating requirements. Phoenix will secure transportation once the skater arrives at the designated hotel. 3. On site travel arrangements are coordinated and made exclusively through the Phoenix Travel Coordinator (ground transportation and lodging). 4. One parent of each under age skater is required to attend any scheduled travel meeting. 5. In the event of an overnight stay, skaters must room with a parent/guardian. If the parent/guardian needs to make alternate chaperone arrangements, a written permission letter must be submitted to the Team Manager in advance of the trip with simultaneous notification to the Phoenix Travel Coordinator. 6. Hotel reservations will be made on behalf of all skaters for one room for each skater/parent. Certain overnight trips may allow for a shared room between two skaters and their parent – this option will be communicated at the time a trip is being planned. 1 COMPETITION AND TRAVEL INFORMATION All teams will be performing or competing in the following competitions EXCEPT Rising Stars, Beginner 1 (B1) and Beginner 2 (B2) will NOT compete at the Midwestern Championship Intermediate must qualify to attend Nationals Week of June 15 Summer Practices start (Blackout practices July 1 -July 20) July Pre-Juvenile Choreography Camp, Onyx July Intermediate Choreography Camp, Onyx th September 8 Fall Practice Schedule Starts (Schedule will be in distributed in late July) October 11 Phoenix Fall Family Picnic, Jeannine’s House in Metamora November 15 November 21-22 Kick Off Exhibition @ Onyx (All Teams) Kalamazoo Kick–Off, Kalamazoo, MI (Intermediate, Pre-Juvenile, B2 & B1) December 5-6 Dr. Porter Competition, Ann Arbor, MI (Intermediate, Pre-Juvenile, B2 & B1) December 12 December TBD Phoenix Parent/Adult Holiday Party, Helene’s House Holiday Show @ Suburban-Ice Macomb (All Teams) January 16- 17, 2016 January 28-30 January TBD Mid-America, Fraser, MI (Intermediate, Pre-Juvenile, B2 & B1) Midwestern Championship, Portland, OR (Intermediate & Pre-Juvenile) Fire & Ice Festival, Downtown Rochester (Rising Stars, B1 & B2) February TBD February TBD February 21 February 24-27 Tri-States, TDB Utica Winterfest, Utica, MI (Rising Stars, B1 & B2) End-of-Year Exhibition @ Onyx (All Teams) U.S. Synchronized Championships, Kalamazoo, MI (Intermediate) May Onyx Ice Show (All Teams) **Occasional Learn to Skate Exhibition may occur throughout the season for each team** Be prepared for extra practices during Christmas vacation.
