2015 CPA Members’ Juried Exhibition PROSPECTUS The Center for Photographic Art (CPA) is pleased to announce the 2015 CPA Members’ Juried Exhibition. Images selected by the juror will be exhibited in the CPA gallery at the Sunset Center in Carmel, CA as well as included in the Members’ Juried Exhibition Catalog. The juror will not see the names of the artists during the judging process. Opening reception. 8/9/15 – 8/16/15 Car Week – CPA Gallery Closed 09/19/15 Exhibition closes. 9/21/15 – 9/25/15 Artwork may be picked up at CPA. 9/21/15 – 9/25/15 Artwork shipped back to artists. SUBMITTING YOUR WORK Eligibility The exhibition is open to all current CPA Members working in all still photographic media. Non-‐thematic; any subject matter is eligible. You must be a current member of CPA in good standing to enter the 2015 Members’ Juried Exhibition. Call for Entry (CaFÉ) will allow an option to become a CPA member and enter simultaneously. Entry Fees No more than a total of 10 images may be submitted. If you are already a CPA member, use your Member’s Discount Coupon to receive the member’s rate on the first image entry fee. Preparing Your Images for Submission Prior to entering, please prepare your image files per the follow specifications: Image files should be 1920 pixels on the long dimension @ 72 ppi. Preparing your image for exhibition We require ready-‐to-‐hang artwork, with the long dimension no larger than 30 inches. Frames can be wooden or metal. In either case, the profile must be rectangular, the finish must be matte black, and the width of the molding as viewed from the front must be between 1/2 and 3⁄4 inches. The images should be matted with white mats. All artwork for display in the gallery must be framed. Unframed work will not be displayed. There are no exceptions granted for the framing requirements. Your finished piece must weigh less than 10 pounds, and include installed hanging hardware. Prints that do not meet our requirements, arrive damaged, cannot be hung properly, or are deemed by the juror to be of poor quality will be not be exhibited. Delivery of Art If you ship your work please use sturdy, reusable packaging -‐-‐ we will use the same packaging to ship it back to you. Reusable fiberboard containers are preferred. If you don't use shipping cases, you may use cardboard and Masonite to protect your work in shipment. Please use bubble wrap or cardboard for shock protection. No Styrofoam peanuts Center for Photographic Art 2 / 4 2015 CPA Members’ Juried Exhibition or similar loose packaging material. You must include a return shipping label and a check to cover return shipping, and insurance if desired. Specify value for insurance purposes if you want us to insure the work during the return shipment. We recommend that you use Federal Express or UPS for shipping. Insurance While your work is in our possession, we will insure it for replacement cost (i.e. the value of the materials and services necessary to create a replacement copy.) Our liability for loss, damage or theft is limited to replacement cost of materials. Doing so is not fair to all the participants who do abide by them. There are no exceptions, and failing to meet the stated criteria will disqualify your entry. Richard Gadd, Juror Richard Gadd bought his first daguerreotype in 1974 when he was taking a History of Photography class at the University of Dayton and he has been hooked on photography since. His passion encompasses is all things photographic. After graduating from the University of Dayton with a degree in photography, he joined the Dayton Art Institute and later moved to San Francisco and began working for art galleries. In 1986 he accepted a position with the Monterey Museum of Art and was later promoted from photography curator to Executive Director. There he managed day-‐to-‐day operations of the multi-‐site museum. While working for the Monterey Museum of Art he was invited to lecture on photography at the Ishikawa-‐Nanao Art Museum in Nanao, Japan. He also designed and curated numerous exhibitions including Brett Weston: Sculpture and Photographs and Passion and Precision: Photographs from the Collection of Margaret W. Weston. As Executive Director he selected images for and consulted on the documentary film The Roots of California Photography: The Monterey Legacy. In his current role as Director of the Weston Gallery, Richard works with individuals and institutions to identify rare and original artwork that enhances their collections. Center for Photographic Art 3 / 4 2015 CPA Members’ Juried Exhibition A frequent lecturer and presenter, he was a guest speaker at Stanford University Special Collections Library as part of the Preservation Lecture Series in 2012; invited by Fondazione Fotografia in Modena, Italy to deliver a talk their Ansel Adams exhibit; was keynote speaker at the Legacy of the Large Format Camera on the Monterey Peninsula.
