Scholastic Book Clubs give teachers a reading bridge from class to home and an easy way to encourage age-appropriate independent reading practice. How Teachers and Schools Benefit from a Scholastic Partnership 1. Earn Generous Rewards Schools earn 20% in Scholastic Rewards on all Book Club orders to help them obtain free books and additional learning resources. One Reward = One Dollar. Rewards can be used to pay or part-pay for any School Essentials order, including our Teaching– Learning programs, or any Book Club / TBS order. t www.scholastic.com.au/rewards 2. Access to School Essentials The School Essentials catalogue and website is a shop created especially for Australian educators. It has everything you need to create an inspiring learning environment! www.schoolessentials.com.au 3. Free Online Resources The Scholastic Teacher Toolkit gives schools access to hundreds of free online resources, including comprehensive units of work, blackline masters and teaching notes for many of the books sold on back Clubs and Book Fairs. www.scholastic.com.au/toolkit Each Issue you will find lesson plans and more! 4. Student Engagement Initiatives Throughout the year Scholastic continuously creates activities and programs to get children excited about reading and books. One example is our new Book Club TV series in short video, featuring the latest titles on Club, book reviews, special guests and more. Why not watch it as a class on the interactive whiteboard? It’s a great way to start a reading conversation! www.scholastic.com.au/BCTV FREE Blackline Masters 5. Community Outreach Scholastic works hard to help all t communities across Australia lift children with learning and literacy. We have many initiatives throughout the year which get books into the hands of sick and underprivileged children in Australia, who normally have little or no access to books. For example, our popular Classrooms Care program invites schools to participate and engage their students in reading more for a great cause – giving other, less-fortunate children the joy of books and reading. www.scholastic.com.au/community FREE detailed Book Notes 6. Teacher’s Bookshelf Each issue of TBS, delivered twice a term with your Book Club brochures, offers the best-value products for Australian classrooms from a wide range of publishers and educational suppliers. Watch for big bargains, fun competitions and curriculum support. Online Access Teacher Name: Teacher Number: Online User Name: Password: Use your online user name and password to access the Teacher Toolkit and School Essentials. Checklist This checklist will help to ensure the smooth operation of Book Clubs 1. Check Brochure Requirements Make sure your students are offered the club most appropriate to their year level. Change your brochure requirements at www.scholastic.com.au/update or phone 1800 021 233. 2. Book Club Brochures Arrive at Your School Distribute the individual brochures to the students, advising a return-by date. Nothing boosts reading excitement like another reader’s enthusiasm! Go over the student brochures with your students, highlighting your recommendations. Create a Book Club folder with section dividers for every Book Club Issue. There are eight issues each year. Write your customer number inside the folder for easy reference. Keep the pre-paid envelope in your Book Club folder. You will need this to return payment to Scholastic. 3. Check Orders When students return their orders, ensure you check the payment is correct before filing student order forms and payment in your Book Club folder. Collect student orders in your Book Club folder until you are ready to place your order. You may find it easiest to have a folder for each class. 4. Place Class Orders Place orders online at www.scholastic.com.au/clubsonline or by phone 1800 021 233. Class orders make it easy to distribute the books when they arrive and ensure each teacher receives any gifts included from time to time. Total the number and value of cheques/credit-card slips/money orders/vouchers and record this on your payment summary. Put all cheques/credit card slips/money orders and vouchers into the pre-paid envelope, along with a copy of your online order confirmation, and post to Scholastic. Give your bursar/office any cash to be banked along with a note of the total. Record this amount on your printed copy of the payment summary. Don’t forget to keep the student order forms. Then, when your order arrives, match class bags with student order forms and distribute to teachers. Important Message for Book Club Organisers! If you are running Book Club on behalf of others, please use the form inside this guide to provide every teacher with their Scholastic user name and password so they can log on and access all of the amazing resources—available for free—on the Scholastic Teacher Toolkit. We are here to help. Free call 1800 021 233 or email [email protected]
