Advanced Jewelry Making Juanita Durham 1st Monday of the month @1:30 Creative Corner In this class you will become familiar with the must-have tools and accessories needed for making jewelry and beading projects. You will learn the recommended lengths for necklaces and bracelets, how to use various pliers, and how to attach assorted clasps and crimp beads. Have a piece of jewelry you have always wanted fixed? All Purpose Room Anne Hutchinson Leland Cole w/Frankie Hughart June 16th @ 1:30 Mr. Leland Cole will provide an entertaining and engaging talk on religious dissident, Anne Hutchinson. Despite having fifteen children, Anne still found time to operate outside of the bounds of the conventional tasks that were assigned to the women of her time. Unfortunately, she was put on trial for this and her differing theological views. As the Page Turns Kim Molloy 1st Tuesday of the month @3:30 Creative Corner In this conversational and participatory class, you will read short stories that will inspire you and touch your heart. Books can pull you up out of your world and allow you to escape and journey into something rich and wonderful. Kim will provide everyone a chance to exchange and challenge ideas on each short story read. Creative Corner Beeswax Craft Annie Phillips May 7th @ 1:30 If you love the scent and texture of beeswax, you are in for a multi-sensory treat. Join us for this demonstration on creating a mixed media project that incorporates beeswax, powder pigments, craft paper, and wood to make a creation that is all your own to display in your suite or to give as a gift. Oddly enough, she had also been married to his brother about seven and a half years earlier, until his unfortunate death. Come hear Diane Shields dish on all the drama that surrounds Catherine of Aragon. Chair Exercise Claude Adkins Tuesdays & Saturdays @ 10:00 All Purpose Room As you grow older, an active lifestyle is more important than ever. Regular exercise can help boost energy, maintain your independence, and manage symptoms of illness or pain. Claude will take you through a 60 minute workout that will leave you feeling energized. Ceramics Class Ellie Alexander June 11th @2:00 Creative Corner Join Ellie and her sister who will guide you through painting and glazing pieces of ceramics. Get creative and choose from many color combinations to make one special piece your own! Pieces will be taken out to be fired before being returned to the artist. Characters of the Bible Mike Goerlich 2nd and 4th Sundays @ 6:30 All Purpose Room “The Bible is filled with characters!” With people like Job, Jonah, Peter, and Thomas running around, the previous statement couldn’t be truer. Or if one said it as a literal statement of fact, they would also be right. The story of the Bible is the story of characters—and, indeed, some of them were characters. We are going to take a look at some of these characters. In this Life Hack Series (LHS) you will learn quick ways to enlarge the font on your screen, discover an easy option to amplify the sound on your laptop, and many other tricks to help you maximize your computer enjoyment. Coffee Painting Annie Phillips May 18th @ 1:30 Creative Corner If you are smitten with the subtle shading of a sepia photograph, you might just be an undiscovered fan of coffee painting! Instead of a trip to the local craft store Megan and I will run to the grocery to get the medium that will be used to create your masterpiece. All though there are no brilliant blues or vibrant greens, you might be amazed by complexity that one is able to achieve the number of applications or the dilution level of coffee used. Fort Sumter Diane Shields August 27th @ 6:30 All Purpose Room Although famous for the events that kicked off the Civil War, Fort Sumter was not decommissioned until 1948. Used during the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World War I and II, Ms. Shields is sure to have a lot to tell you about the history behind Fort Sumter. Germany: A Tale of Two Cities Janet Dieman May 19th @1:30 All Purpose Room During our "travel" to Germany, we'll visit two cities. One is the fourth largest in Germany. The other is a sleepy medieval village along the Rhine River. What we discover about the history and culture of these two places will surprise you. Sashay Scarves Liz Thomas June 9th @ 1:30 Creative Corner This is the course that some of you have been waiting for! If you have seen these scarves that are more festive adornment than body heat insulator, you might like to come down to attend a class that the wife of Charlie Thomas, Liz, will be teaching. We will have a wide selection of color choices available. If your crochet skills are a little rusty, you are welcome to stop in for a quick crochet tutorial from Annie or Megan in advance of the course day. We will be using basic crochet techniques in class to create the scarves, but no lengthy patterns are used.
