Pivotal Networks and ShoreTel successfully
relocate the sites to new HQ
Background
The Diocese of Durham was originally located over
two sites: Auckland Castle and Carter House in
Durham.
integration to the ShoreTel solution, to create a
fully integrated conference service on the calendar,
which also allows desktop sharing.
Positive results
A variety of legacy telephone systems and services
needed to be consolidated and upgraded. The
Diocese issued an Invitation to Tender (ITT) and
Pivotal Networks was chosen as the preferred
supplier.
As with any relocation, there were some challenges
at the outset but Pivotal Networks provided
excellent project support, resolving issues in a
timely and efficient manner.
The Diocese of Durham moved into a new, purposebuilt headquarters, Cuthbert House, which provides
a central location for all Diocesan activities, further
strengthening the support of mission across the
diocese. Cuthbert House also hosts a wide variety
of meetings and training events.
”It’s great to have all elements of the Diocese under
one roof, where parishes and our partners can
collaborate, however and whenever they want.”
Office relocation: main objectives
The Diocese of Durham was well-established in its
former locations so one of its main priorities was
to keep the same geographic telephone numbers.
The deployment of SIP connectivity enabled them
to retain all of their existing numbers, as well as
offering free local, national and mobile calls.
A ShoreTel SBE 100 UC platform was installed, with
IP handsets and mobile twinning for all extensions.
A full IP LAN network was also implemented, along
with Wi-Fi connectivity.
Instant Messaging (IM) on the desktop has the
potential to hugely reduce the volume of emails.
The less formal nature of IM means that people
respond more quickly and don’t have to manage
huge volumes of email communication. The Diocese
will also benefit from the potential for Office 365
Paul Stringer, Administrative Secretary for the
Diocese of Durham, said:
Tony Patterson, Business Development Manager for
Pivotal Networks, added:
“The ShoreTel solution really is ‘brilliantly simple’.
A major benefit of the UC solution is that the
Diocese of Durham has invested in a platform
with the lowest Total Cost of Ownership and
collaboration tools to improve efficiency and
communications for all users. The introduction of
SIP technology has allowed flexibility, scalability
and business continuity options.”
Next steps?
The Diocese of Durham has subscribed to a
bespoke managed support contract with Pivotal
Networks, so all of its support is taken care of. The
Diocese is considering expanding access for remote
users: the beauty of the ShoreTel UC platform is
that it is modular and very flexible, so it can be
expanded as and when required.
ShoreTel’s award-winning on-premises IP-PBX solution and cloudbased hosted phone system eliminate complexity and improve
productivity. Recognized for its industry-leading customer experience and support, ShoreTel’s innovative business phones,
application integration, collaboration tools, mobility, and contact center applications enable users to communicate and
