Until 2006, the unclaimed capital credit money was returned to the state as unclaimed property. Capital credits, or patronage dividends, are margins that exceed the cost of providing service for members for a given year and reinvested back into the cooperative. According to cooperative Effingham County High School Home School guidelines, capital credits may be returned to EMC members on a schedule determined by management and the Board of Directors. Since 2006, Planters EMC has awarded $400,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors. Congratulations to the Class of 2015 Planters EMC Scholarship recipients. However, left on and unattended, ceiling fans are just spinning up your electric bill if no one is around to enjoy the breeze. July 2015 Planters EMC A Touchstone Energy® Cooperative www.plantersemc.com 22C GET CONNECTED Planters EMC: Meet Working for you Ashley Lee Apprentice lineman Cooperative donates to American Cancer Society P lanters EMC’s Relay For Life team raised more than $9,935 for the American Cancer Society between May 2014 and May 2015. The money was donated to the Screven County and Burke County Relay For Life campaigns. The cooperative employees and directors raised most of the money in a variety of ways. Some gave money by donating through payroll deductions, while others participated in buying and selling chicken barbecue plates. Still others helped by cooking the chicken and preparing the plates for patron pickup. More than 960 chicken halves were cooked and sold during the fundraiser on May 11, 2015. Another Relay For Life fundraiser is a TV raffle held at the Planters EMC Annual Meeting in October. In 2014, more than $700 was collected by the Relay For Life team from the TV raffle. For several years, Glenn-Davis & Associates has donated the TV, allowing all raffle proceeds to go directly to the Relay For Life team. Thank you for your support in the Relay For Life fundraising events. The theme for the Screven County Relay For Life event was “Superheroes.” Even though some are disguised as ordinary citizens, all in this picture certainly are Relay For Life superheroes.
