Recycle wood and household batteries, too PLEASANT HILL CITYWIDE CLEANUP: WEEK OF JUNE 15-19, 2015 Pleasant Hill Residents Have Three Free Cleanups R epublic Services provides free to residential customers in Pleasant Hill three cleanups each year, two of which are on-call, and the third citywide. This flyer offers guidelines for your citywide spring cleanup which, this year, is scheduled for the week of June 15-19 (see calendar) and includes the recycling of batteries and cell phones. Our crews will pick up your extra refuse on the same day as your regular garbage service. To ensure a smooth cleanup, please follow the accompanying guidelines. Customers can also schedule two on-call cleanups. Cleanups offer customers the chance to dispose of items too large for garbage carts. Recycling Yard Waste and Wood During this year’s citywide spring cleanup, we will again collect yard waste and wood for recycling. Please see the accompanying instructions for yard waste and wood recycling in this flyer. The maximum amount of cleanup material including yard waste and wood is 2 cubic yards. Recycling Household Batteries You may leave out household batteries for recycling during this year's citywide spring cleanup. Please see the instructions in this flyer to ensure that your cell phones and batteries are recycled safely. Maximum Load PLEASE NOTE: You may leave up to a maximum 2 cubic yards of refuse (fourteen 32-gallon bags) on your cleanup day. Total includes yard waste and wood. All Containers Taken, Unless… NOTE: Containers (except wood and yard waste containers) will be taken including metal and plastic trash cans unless indicated otherwise with a note on the can. Do's and Don'ts for Your Spring Cleanup Days Total cleanup volume = 5' 2 cubic yards 4' or 3' 2' 3' x 3' x 6' 1' 1' 9' ✓ 8' 7' 6' 5' 4' 3' 2' 2' 3' 1' Place items at the curb before 5:30 a.m., preferably the night before your cleanup day. All items must be stacked in one place. Tree branches must be 3 inches or less in diameter Cut and tie branches, prunings or wood so bundles are 3 feet or less in length and less than 24 inches in diameter. Tree stumps cannot be collected. Bag or tie items with rope, cord or string strong enough to keep bundles intact or place in containers, including metal and plastic trash cans. All containers will be taken away unless indicated otherwise with a note on the container. Place cleanup items in a single pile at a distance of 5 feet or more from refuse cart. ✓ ✓ ✓ ✓ No single item may weigh more than 150 lbs. or be longer than 4 feet. Bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds. No large car parts (tires, transmission blocks, engines, etc.) or large furniture. For collection of large items call our customer service department. No refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners or any other appliance with Freon. No rocks, dirt or concrete. No tree stumps or large tree trunks. No TVs, computer monitors or computer peripherals (keyboards, mice, hard drives, etc.) or products that need electricity to operate such as VCRs, stereos, cordless phones, copiers and fax machines. See FREE E-Waste Drop-off information on the other side of this insert. No hazardous wastes including paint, oil filters, motor oil, car batteries, antifreeze, solvents, pesticides, cleaners. For hazardous waste information call 800-646-1431. Do not place cleanup items near or in front of refuse carts. No loose piles. No stoves, microwave ovens, clothes dryers, water heaters, space heaters, furnaces and other appliances with mercury switches. Please call (925) 6854711 to arrange a pickup for a fee. How to Recycle Household Batteries R esidents can now recycle single-use, household batteries as part of the Spring Cleanup by doing the following: ✓ Place household batteries in a clear, quart-size plastic bag, i.e., Ziploc. ✓ Household batteries include single-use AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries only. ✓ No rechargeables. bagged batteries next to your wood and yard waste pile or next to your ✓ Place recycling cart. Please, no other e-waste will be collected. Household Batteries Place in Sealable, Quart-Sized Plastic Bag Place Bag Next to Wood & Yard Waste Pile FIRE DANGER: Cell phones with batteries can be flammable. None will be collected. Please take your cell phones to an electronics recycling facility or to the E-Waste Event on Saturday, June 20, at Diablo Valley College. Recycling Wood and Yard Waste Do’s ✓ Place yard waste and wood at the curb before 5:30 a.m. or, preferably, the night before your cleanup day. ✓ Keep yard waste and wood separate from your regular spring cleanup refuse. ✓ Branches must be 3 inches or less in diameter. Tie branches or lumber in bundles that are 3 feet or less in length and 2 feet or less in diameter. Bundles must weigh less than 75 pounds. ✓ Place leaves in cardboard boxes, paper bags or containers 32 gallons or less in size. Containers will be taken away unless indicated otherwise by a note attached to the container. Don’ts No tree stumps and no branches with diameters greater than 3 inches. No painted or treated wood. Please, NO plastic bags; leaves placed in plastic bags CANNOT BE RECYCLED.
