Plumpton College Plumpton College Compulsory Clothing All students attending Plumpton College will be required to wear Plumpton College embroidered corporate clothing. The corporate clothing will be in addition to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) students must wear during their practical sessions at College. Please contact them by telephone or fax should you wish to place an order) If you have any queries regarding clothing and equipment for your chosen course in Equine, please contact:Michelle Johnston on - 01273 890454 extension 2313 2014 Plumpton College Open Day Saturday 9th May 2015 EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS ON EQUINE PROGRAMMES FOR SAFETY REASONS: ABSOLUTELY NO JEWELLERY, MAKE-UP, BODY PIERCINGS, HOODED TOPS, SCARVES, OR TRAINERS ALLOWED ON ANY PRACTICAL ACTIVITY. RIDING LESSONS AND HACKING OUT DRESS CODE All clothing must be plain and dark green and/or navy blue in colour. Jodhpurs Polo shirts with collar Polo neck jumpers/crew neck sweatshirts or rugby tops. Sweatshirts/V-neck jumpers (not hooded variety). Plain gloves are mandatory. Schooling whip/jumping whip/short crop. Hat to current BSI standard/European PAS015/BSEN1384, ASTM F 1163 /EN1384– must fit correctly. New hats are advised every five years or following a fall. Hairnet for long hair, or tied up satisfactorily. Long boots or Jodhpur boots & short chaps (full chaps are permitted in winter) – no tassles, Dubarry style boots or bright colours allowed. Lightly ridged soled boots are allowed, but boots with heavily ridged soles are not permitted. Riding trainers, including “Dr Martin” style boots are forbidden for all riddenwork. Back/body protection – optional, but compulsory for those doing cross country and BHS Exams at Stage III and above. The back/body protector need not be purchased prior to September. Beige Jodhpurs are allowed; however, they are impractical for yard work, but are compulsory attire for BHS Exam candidates. When exercising horses outside of lesson time, students will be required to promote the image of Plumpton. Students will therefore be expected to dress accordingly as detailed above and must wear a High Visibility Reflective Fluorescent Tabard when hacking out. Students who, in the opinion of staff, are dressed in unsafe attire will not be allowed to ride. Plumpton College students are offered a 10% discount at a lot of local tack shops when presenting their student card. YARD WORK Wellingtons/work boot – compulsory – plain colour, e.g. black, dark blue, dark green. Please note that in dry weather conditions and on inspection and exam days riding boots and chaps/gaiters will be required for yard work. Muckers/Jodhpur boots (must be properly secured/done up) are accepted, training shoes are not permitted. Smart overalls, navy jogging trousers or jeans are acceptable for yard work before 9 am. Sweatshirts tucked in – loose fitting shirts, appropriate to weather. Long hair must be tied back. Waterproof coat/gloves. Riding hat for taking horses out of the stables. NO SCARVES, HOODED JACKETS, OR HOODED SWEATSHIRTS You will also need wet weather clothing (& appropriate head wear). NB: After 9 am students working on the stable yard will be required to wear clean jodhpurs, polo shirt and sweat shirt. On examination days, students will be required to wear riding attire whilst on duty. ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT Plaiting kit - needle, thread, bands, mane comb and scissors Hoof pick (If you do not have this for lessons it will be purchased and you will be billed for the cost) ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE LABELLED CLASSROOM WORK All students will be expected to set a good standard of dress when attending lectures. Students will need the following: Casual shoes – riding boots are not permitted indoors A4 lever arch file X 3 - 2 for Course Presentation, 1 for general classroom work Paper A4/pad , highlighter pens Pens, pencils, ruler Clipboard – helpful, not essential Calculator Exercise book
