Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) is a Brazilian Think Tank and Higher
Education Institution, founded in 1944, dedicated to promoting
Brazil’s economic and social development.
In 2014, FGV was once again considered one of the top 25 think
tanks in the world and top think tank in Central and South America,
according to the Global Go To Think Tanks Index produced by Pennsylvania University.
Also in 2014, FGV was named one of the top 110 educational institutions in the world, according to the Emerging Employability University Ranking published by The New York Times. Additionally, The
Financial Times ranked the OneMBA offered by São Paulo School of
Business Administration (EAESP) as one of the top 40 executive
MBAs in the world, and São Paulo Law School (DIREITO SP) as one
of the most Innovative Law Schools in the world.
We believe that the recognition of FGV among the most influential think tanks in

SÃO PAULO SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (EAESP)
EAESP was established in 1954 in the city of São Paulo in response to challenges resulting
from Brazil’s rapid growth. The school is now one of the top administration schools in Brazil,
bolstering the country’s entrepreneurial capacity.
BRAZILIAN SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND FINANCE (EPGE)
EPGE was established in 1961 to boost research activities, produce scientific publications and
train academics in economic science with a view to generating international competitiveness
and national leadership. The school’s lecturers are a group of doctoral graduates devoted
solely to research and teaching.
SÃO PAULO SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS (EESP)
Since 2004, EESP has offered graduate, academic and professional post-graduate, continuing
education and specialization courses in economics. In 2009, an innovative research field was
introduced in financial macroeconomics.
RIO DE JANEIRO LAW SCHOOL (DIREITO RIO)
Rio de Janeiro Law School was established in 2002 to promote career opportunities in public
and business law, to form leaders who think about the future of Brazil, and to serve as a
benchmark in legal research and teaching, thus helping the country develop and advance.
SÃO PAULO LAW SCHOOL (DIREITO SP)
São Paulo Law School was developed out of FGV’s teaching and research in Economics,
Business and Public Administration. Its goals are to create constant innovation in learning and
research, and develop professionals with wide-reaching views of the business world. DIREITO
SP offers graduate, post-graduate and continuing education courses (GVlaw).
SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES (CPDOC)
CPDOC is a major teaching and research center in social sciences and contemporary history.
Established in 1973, it has become a leading historical research institute in Brazil and holds a
major collection of personal archives, oral histories and audiovisual sources that document
aspects of contemporary Brazilian history.
SCHOOL OF APPLIED MATHEMATICS (EMAp)
EMAp was established in 2009 with the aim of fostering acquisition and transferring scientific
and technological knowledge, mathematically oriented, to many social sciences fields, such as
Sociology, History, Economics, Management, Law, Library and Archival Sciences. Its scope of
research encompasses the epistemology, methodologies and techniques that originate from
mathematical and computer sciences.
INSTITUTE FOR EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (IDE)
IDE manages the distribution of ongoing learning programs produced by the various FGV
schools. IDE is responsible for FGV Management, a classroom executive learning program; the
distance learning program, FGV Online; FGV Corporate, a program of customized courses;
and the Quality Certification Program, which shares FGV knowledge with other graduate
teaching institutions. IDE also has an accredited network in more than 90 Brazilian cities.

EBAPE, established in 1952 in Rio de Janeiro, is a preeminent school in Latin America, training
an elite body of skilled professionals to lead Brazilian public administration. Throughout its
existence, it has produced numerous publications, national and international research, and

BRAZILIAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (EBAPE)
BRAZILIAN INSTITUTE OF ECONOMICS (IBRE)
IBRE was established in 1951 to research, analyze, produce and disseminate macroeconomic
statistics and applied studies for enhancing public policies or private action in the Brazilian
economy. IBRE is a leading institution in calculating the Brazilian GDP and in producing price
indices, including the General Price Index (IGP) which was the official inflation index for many
years. Additionally, through maintaining contact with more than 20,000 companies throughout
Brazil, IBRE prepares price indexes, trend and business cycle indicators widely used by
scholars, analysts, managers and public administrators.
FGV PROJECTS
FGV Projetos specializes in bridging the gaps between formal knowledge and real-life problems
and decisions its clients face. Leveraging on the expertise of the various FGV schools, FGV
Projetos generates solutions by developing and implementing custom frameworks that are
tailor-made to the issues at hand.
PUBLIC POLICY ANALYSIS DIVISION (DAPP)
DAPP focuses on translating the application of concepts and methodologies in social
sciences using state-of-the-art technologies, analysis and transparency of information, and
assessing and monitoring public policies and structural programs related to national
development.
FGV ENERGY
FGV Energy is a study center created in 2013 to produce, promote and disseminate research
and know-how in the field of energy, with emphasis on seven major areas: oil, natural gas,
electric power, nuclear energy, biofuels, renewable sources, and energy efficiency.
FGV PRESS
Since 1945, FGV Press has published work from various fields of knowledge in the social
sciences, contributing to improved learning and education in Brazil and giving FGV a national
and global presence. Its catalog features FGV authors as well as intellectuals from the Brazilian
and international academic community. Their contributions, which total more than 300 titles,
play a role in shaping intellectual discourse and in the dissemination of knowledge.
