Summer Camp- Update

We are excited you are going to Summer Camp! Here are a few details you need to know…
PAYMENT
The cost of camp is $899 per person. Each person will get an individual email with their remaining balance (each person should have
sent a $150 deposit with their registration). 2nd deposit of $150 is due May 1st. Final payment is due July 1st, 2015. Pay
via check (make check payable to Young Life and mail to the office – 13635 NW Cornell Rd, #200, Portland, OR 97229 - with
your registration) or credit card (fill in the credit card info on the registration form or pay over the phone – call the office
503.641.5454). Please note: There is a 2.25% processing fee for all credit card payments.
CANCELLATION POLICY
The cancellation fee is $150 per person if you cancel 45 days prior to departure (6/8/2015). The cancellation fee after 45 days
is $300. All cancellations must be received in writing.

There are multiple forms that need to be filled out. Mail them or fax them or scan and email them to our office. Here is contact info:

The forms are explained below:
 Camping Health Consent Form: This is a two page form. Be sure and sign in all the places that require signature and fill
out completely. Please note you DO NOT need a physical for this type of camp. You can just cross out that section. Also, if
shots are current and up to date, just write “current” in that section.
 Consent Form for Medical Treatment in Canada: This form is just one page. Please sign and fill out completely.
 Border Crossing Consent Letter: any US citizen ages 16-18 travelling in a sports or religious group accompanied by a
chaperone will need to have a letter signed by the parent or guardian giving permission for the minor & chaperone to travel
across the border.
 Copy of Birth Certificate & Photo ID if you do not have a passport: any US citizen ages 16-18 travelling in a sports
or religious group accompanied by a chaperone will need to have a copy of their birth certificate and photo ID to show at
the border crossing. PLEASE NOTE: If you have a passport, it is recommended that you bring your passport with you.
TRANSPORTATION
 Friday, July 24th – Meet at 9:00PM at Findley Elementary School (4155 NW Saltzman Rd., Portland, OR 97229). Please
check in when you arrive. We will be taking a bus to and from the camp. We plan to leave at 10PM.

Friday, July 31st – The bus will leave Canada the morning of Friday, July 31st – they have a LONG trip back to Portland,
so they won’t arrive back to Findley Elementary School until the EARLY morning hours of Saturday, Aug.1st anywhere
from 12 to 3 AM. On the way home from camp we will allow campers to use their cell phones to call parents when we get
close to Portland so parents know when to meet the bus.
WEATHER
Prepare for warm or cool days and cool evenings. You just never know what you will get at Malibu!
WHAT TO BRING
Young Life camping is full of activity, adventure ... and dirt! Each camper will be allowed one large suitcase and one carry on. Please
be sure that the campers name is on their luggage. Girls: you need to be able to lift your own suitcase! 
What to bring:

 T-shirts
 Sweatshirt
 Jacket
 Rain gear (Just in case! They do have thunderstorms!)
 Grubby clothes and closed toed shoes for some of the camp activities
 Tennis shoes
 Flip flops/Sandals
 Swimsuit
 Beach towel
 Sunscreen
 Watch
 Sunglasses
 Water bottle (Be sure to put camper’s name on it!)
 Spending money (The camp fee includes all meals at camp, but camper needs to have cash for a meal on the way up and
back, and for the Sarsaparilla snack shop or the Mercantile gift shop at the camp)
 Digital camera (Be sure to put campers name on it and pack in carry-on bag if they want to take pictures on the way to
camp. They will not have access to their suitcase during the bus ride to and from camp).
Please note: The camp provides linens, blankets, pillows and bath towels, so you don’t need to bring those.
WHAT NOT TO BRING
The camp does not allow MP3 players, IPods or portable DVD players. They are ALL collected before arrival at camp and returned
to campers as they leave. Cell phones DO NOT work at camp – so leave them behind! No alcohol, drugs or weapons. If you are
discovered with them, you will be flown out of camp at your own expense.
CAMP CONTACT INFORMATION
In case of an emergency please call Malibu directly at (604) 883-2582. You can also mail a letter to the camp, but be sure to put Attn
camper name / Portland West Area so they can find the camper easily. Mail is delivered to Malibu by boat two days each week. In
order for mail to arrive while the campers are at camp, it must be mailed at least one week in advance with the correct postage.

MEDICAL STAFF & ACCIDENT COVERAGE
There are two physicians at the property who are available 24 hours a day. Your personal insurance will be primary coverage for
camper accidents and Young Life’s insurance is secondary up to a maximum of $4,000 ($2,000 for dental claims). Exception: if the
total claim is less than $250, Young Life will pay the full amount. On claims above $250, Young Life will coordinate payments for
deductibles and co-pays. Young Life’s policy does not cover camper illnesses. If you have questions, please contact Young Life

HOUSING
Guys and girls stay in different buildings. They are grouped by grade. Adult leaders stay in the room with the campers.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SICKNESS
Young Life is not allowed to take any campers that are sick to camp. If your child is sick, please do not send them to camp. You will
receive a full refund.
