Corporate Profile
TAM International manufactures a wide range
of inflatable packers and accessories for geotechnical and hydrological well testing, grouting and
completion applications. Inflatable packers are
available for borehole sizes ranging from 11/2 inches
through 30 inches, well depths to 25,000 feet and
a wide range of temperature and differential
pressure capacities.
TAM has over 40 years of inflatable packer
manufacturing and service experience. TAM’s
Quality Program is certified to ISO 9001:2008
standards.
A team of TAM personnel is available, worldwide, to assist you in the proper selection of an
inflatable packer for your specific applications.
A Choice of Packer Types
TAM offers three distinct inflatable element
designs to accommodate the wide range of applications in hole sizes, applied differential pressure,
bottom hole temperature and project economics.
An inflatable packer can achieve higher
expansion than conventional packers and is
designed with a long seal length for open hole
applications. The inflatable packer does not contain “slips” and therefore can be used to seal in
PVC and stainless casing without marring the
inside diameter.
Selection Criteria
Packer Size:
In general, the largest packer that can be run in
the hole should be used. The lower the expansion
ratio (Inflated OD/Run-in OD), the higher the
differential pressure rating as shown in the
specific charts for each product line.
The charts provided do not take into account
the effects of elevated temperature nor is the
differential pressure rating based on the packer’s
ability to resist movement, but rather its ability
to seal at the rated pressure. TAM recommends
that each application be reviewed by an experienced TAM specialist to assure the proper
selection of the packer size and product type.
Inflation Medium:
TAM inflatable packers are designed to be inflated with either gas or liquid. The optimum inflation medium to use depends on the nature of the
operations and resources available.
Gas inflation is often used in deep, dry, or low
fluid level holes. Even without hydrostatic pressure on the exterior of the packer element, once
the gas pressure is released the inflation element
will deflate. Gas is also used as the inflation medium in applications where large temperature fluctuations are expected. Another advantage is gas
inflation simplifies most operations.
SD Inflatable Packers
The SD product line is the most economical
tool available and is used in well conditions where
the applied differential pressure is less than 500
psi (34 bar).
LI Inflatable Packers
The LI product line is rated for use in applications where applied differential pressure is less
than 1,000 psi (69 bar).
Application Information
Required:
In order for TAM to assist in the proper selection of an inflatable packer type and size, the
following information is required.
1. Hole diameter at the proposed setting depth
HD Inflatable Packers
The HD product line is rated for well applications requiring high differential pressure capacity.
Standard models are rated at 5,000 psi (345 bar)
maximum applied differential pressure.
Exact ratings of each product are defined
later in this brochure.
2
2. Minimum restriction above setting depth
3. Expected differential pressure and temperature
4. Work string connection
SD and LI products are generally available Ex-Stock with same day shipping

TAM SD Fixed-End Inflatable Packers
SD Single
For shallow operations, such as monitor wells,
where downhole differential pressures do not
exceed 500 PSI (34 BAR), the TAM SD packers
are an economical choice. TAM SD packers feature
a tough inflatable element designed for high
elongation and tear resistance.
TAM SD packers are available in all standard
sizes and can be easily run in straddle
configurations.

TAM HD Inflatable Packers
HD Straddle
For hydrofracturing or deep well applications where differential
pressures exceed 1,000 PSI (69 BAR), TAM International offers HD
inflatable packers in all standard sizes.
This sliding-end inflatable packer features a long, fully steel reinforced, field replaceable inflation element. These versatile inflatable
packers may be run on tubing, coil tubing or drill pipe in single or in
straddle configurations of two or more packers. TAM HD inflatable
packers offer numerous setting options, several of which do not
require an external inflation line. Please refer to our TAM-J and
Single Set brochures for a description of setting mechanisms not
requiring an external line.

When running the straddle packer assembly, the pressure ratings shown above may have to be reduced if the extensions between the packers are not
strong enough. Consult TAM International for further details.
Maximum temperature rating is 212˚F (100˚C).
TAM can supply HD Packers with optional thread connections.
Rubber buildup on the diameter of the inflation element is available on special request.

For hydrological workstring assemblies TAM
International manufactures a line of Feed Thru
connections. Both Feed Thru designs enable wiring

Hydrofracturing
Hydrofracturing is a common and effective means
to increase the yield of water wells. Hydrofracturing
is a process in which water is pressured into the
formation, to open cracks and crevices in the rock, so
that water can more readily flow toward the well bore.
Inflatable packers are used to isolate the applied
pressure to specific areas of the well bore. Packers
may be used singly or in tandem to accomplish this
goal. Typically 1,000 to 2,500 PSI. is required to
fracture a well with flow rates varying between 25 to
150 gallons per minute.
For hydrofracturing (6” borehole), TAM manufactures a special 4.75” O.D. inflation element. For part
numbers, dimensional and working pressure data,
please refer to page 5. It is designed to be run
numerous times without redressing or repair and
possesses numerous performance advantages.
To extend service life, the 4.75” O.D. inflation
element utilizes a steel cable reinforcement laid on a
bias to the tool axis. The cable reinforcement is
wound in both directions for the entire length of the
element and secured to the tooling connections.
Nitrile rubber with special reinforcement in the
stress areas forms both the outer seal and bladder
parts. The Nitrile rubber’s high elasticity characteristics ensure a fast return to original shape when
deflated.
HD Packer for Hydrofracturing
to Improve Water Yield
Features:
• Durable design for repeated sets Customers have reported that as many
as 600 sets have been recorded with the
inflation element continuing to function
normally.
• Fast inflation and deflation - Set and
deflate in less than a minute.
• Well suited for high pressure Hydrofracturing to pressures of 3900
PSI (269 BAR) can be achieved in a 6”
bore hole. Refer to page “5” for part
numbers.
• Low volume inflation requirements Volume of inflation fluid required per
packer in a 6” bore hole 2.2 gallons or
8.5 liters.
• Easy to operate.

Exploratory Water Well Testing
Wireline
To study the feasibility of a potential waterwell
site, TAM International has successfully
employed a test method which significantly
reduces the costs of drilling and testing. Water
quality, production rates, and static and bottom
hole pressures (BHP) can all be determined at
several depths in a single trip inside a small
diameter borehole.
