Spiritual Exercises
in Everyday Life
facilitated by Betty Daugherty, FSPA; Marj English, OSF;
Lucille Winnike, FSPA; Ann Jackson, PBVM; & Laura Weber
Prairiewoods is happy to offer the
eighth annual Spiritual Exercises in
Everyday Life. S.E.E.L. is a nine-month
retreat based on the spiritual exercises
of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Ignatius
recognized that, in addition to the
intellect, emotions and feelings also
help us come to a knowledge of the
movement of the Spirit in our lives.
There is no one method of Ignatian
prayer; Ignatius drew on a number of
sources and Ignatian Exercises contain
different kinds of prayer.
The Exercises, which are oriented
to mission and rooted in contemplation,
include prayer with scripture, group
discussion, individual reflection and
individual spiritual direction. The Exercises
also develop dispositions of the heart that
then become part of daily life.
Retreatants in S.E.E.L. will become
better able to discern their inner desires
and to see how God is working in their
lives and in the world. They learn how to
bring together contemplation and action.
They become increasingly aware of the
S.E.E.L. Requirements:
•an hour of prayer each day
•monthly spiritual direction meetings
•monthly group gatherings
