PQS I: Fundamentals of
Quality Precasting
NPCA’s Production & Quality School (PQS) Level 1 is a
comprehensive two-day program devoted to addressing
the key fundamentals of quality precasting. Taught by
veteran industry experts, the PQS Level 1 course covers
each critical step of the concrete production process from
start to finish.
Course participants will discuss:
• Batching and mixing – the fundamental components needed to ensure a durable, watertight and strong
finished product
• Reinforcement – The role of reinforcement and its impact on handling and placement
• Production Practices – An overview of the entire production process from pre-pour to post-pour operations
• Quality Control – A discussion of the top priorities identified by QC Inspectors as well as the importance quality control processes play in your company’s success
PQS II – Production: Beyond
the Fundamentals
NPCA’s PQS II – Production is a comprehensive two-day
program that is designed for plant personnel who will
benefit from a comprehensive understanding of precast
specific production practices. This course goes beyond the
fundamentals explored in PQS Level I to prepare students
to become production leaders in their plants. Course
participants will go in-depth to explore manufacturing
techniques specific to the industry that will allow them to
control production practices with confidence.
Topics include:
• Concrete lean manufacturing
• Repair procedures and techniques
•Reinforcement
• Lifting and handling

Whether you are a Quality Control Inspector or a
production employee, NPCA’s PQS course offerings
provide valuable instruction for everyone who enrolls.
Past attendees have included production personnel,
supervisors, new engineers, upper-level managers and
DOT employees. PQS I is also required for plants in the
NPCA Plant Certification Program.

Courses are open to all NPCA members and nonmembers;
however, those companies that supply to the DOT
and register by the deadline will be given first priority.
