A BRIEF HISTORY
HORSHAM
Press House is an exciting
conversion of the former West
Sussex County Times Building
sympathetically divided into 9
luxurious apartments, conveniently
situated in the heart of Horsham.
Number 6 The Causeway has
its own entrance off the most
prestigious tree lined road in
the town while the remaining
apartments have access from
Market Square. Number 7 Press
House, Market Square has a balcony
overlooking the exclusive Glynde
Place and views across Horsham.
The apartments have the benefit of
a lift, contemporary well designed
interiors which include stylish
kitchens and bathrooms, modern
lighting and efficient gas heating.
Press House was home to the
offices of The West Sussex County
Times from around 1893 until 2012.
It has evolved over the years to
become today’s impressive building.
The site has enjoyed a rich history,
in 1681 it included an ale shop, a
tailors shop, a butchers shop and
also some living accommodation.
In 1820 the tall part of the building,
which dominates the Causeway
today, was erected. From 1893
the West Sussex County Times
and Sussex Standard offices
occupied part of the building, the
remainder was a sports shop run
by “Attwaters”. In 1927 this shop
burnt down and that part of the
site was re-developed, creating the
distinctive exterior which remains
to this day and now adds character
to the superb Press House.
Horsham is a fashionable and vibrant
market town having numerous cafés,
great restaurants and excellent shops,
together with charming streets
mixing old and new. The Causeway
is one of the most picturesque tree
lined roads with houses dating from
the 16th century leading to the 13th
century church of St Mary.
In the centre of the town is The
Carfax, a meeting place of four
roads. It is a largely pedestrianised
area with trees and seating in
abundance, giving a continental feel
with café tables spilling onto the
pavements. There is an attractive
Victorian band stand that holds
regular events throughout the year.
The local markets on Thursdays and
Saturdays offer fine local produce
and street food. The familiar high
street names include a new John
Lewis at Home & Waitrose store,
Marks & Spencer, WH Smith, White
Stuff, Waterstones and many others.
Independent specialist shops can be
found in the area around the Carfax,
Piries Place, the pedestrianised West
Street and in the covered Swan
Walk shopping mall. The restaurant
quarter is mainly centred around
East Street and includes chains
such as Wagamamas, Côte, Strada,
Nandos, Pizza Express and ASK.
There are a wealth of other activities
in Horsham. The park offers plenty
of open space, pretty formal
gardens and The Pavilions is a
superb leisure centre with swimming
pool and gym which offers many
workout classes. Nearby is The
Capitol, a multi purpose theatre/
cinema/arts venue. All are within a
short walk of Press House.

As soon as the West Sussex County
Times building became available
we saw the opportunity to create
something really special. The
building is externally architecturally
stunning, so rather than changing
the already attractive design we
decided to enhance it and focus
on the interior. After one hundred
years of being adapted for the ever
changing needs of a press office,
most of the old features had been
removed so that we have been
able to bring in our contemporary
influence, style and design to
the building. We trust you will be
pleased with the result.

Commuting from Horsham is easy with up to 10 trains per hour to London, with travelling times of around an hour. Gatwick is easily accessible by road
or rail in under half an hour and there are excellent road links to the M23/M25. Press House is centrally located, and just a short walk to the mainline rail
