It is housed in the original pump house (dating from the nineteenth century) and enjoys a picturesque setting on the river bank, which has moorings for visitors arriving by boat. It is also on the Hereward Way for those enjoying a walk out of Ely. The original building has been extended to provide modern visitor facilities. The museum is a registered educational charity, a volunteer organisation which has to raise the funds to meet everyday running expenses and to finance projects. Event Days and Exhibitions during 2015 at the Museum Sunday 10th May Motor Bikes and Cycles Admire the various makes of motor bikes which have thrilled generations! Trophy for ‘The bike we would most like to take home’ voted by visitors. Sunday 21st June Classic and Vintage Cars This year any make of car can enter but they must be 40+ years old. Trophy for ‘The car we would most like to take home’ voted by visitors. Sunday 9 August th ‘Get up close’ Engine Experience and Volunteers Secret Lives Rare opportunity to ‘start an engine’- by application and raffle! Also see the varied exhibitions related to the volunteers’ ‘other lives’. Sunday 6th December Christmas Special 11.00 to 16.00 This now regular event is a real opportunity to enjoy the sounds, sights and tastes of the season and to buy some unusual Christmas presents. Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October The 4th Prickwillow Ploughing Festival in conjunction with T W H Clarke and Son of Green Farm Opening at 10am daily. Heavy Horse and Vintage/Classic Tractor Ploughing Working Displays and Stationary Engines Classic Cars • Tractors and Commercials Arts and Crafts • Trade Stands Real Ale Bar • Full Catering Music and Entertainment for all the Family Admission: £7.00 adult, £6.00 concession, accompanied children under 16 FREE. Tuesdays are usually workdays for our volunteers so why not visit then to watch and talk to them! Drive-It-Day 26th April 11.00 to 16.00 Stop off venue for touring classic and vintage cars on this national ‘Drive It Day’. Opportunities to see an engine start during the afternoon. Cold lunches available.
