May Newsletter It is so nice to see warmer temperatures and children playing outside again. After returning from vacation, we are ready for the last big stretch of the school year. While the nice weather is refreshing, we also know that students will be doing some of their best work in the coming weeks. Staff Appreciation The week of May 4th is Teacher Appreciation Week. May 6th is National School Nurse Day. What a nice time to send a personal note off to school from you and/or your child! School Pride Day Please join us for a couple of hours on Saturday morning on May 9 from 911 a.m. in our effort at sprucing up the outdoor areas around the building. We will have new mulch and flowers to plant. Field Trips: The 2nd grade will travel to the MA Audubon Society’s Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center in Worcester on May 5th. On May 7th, the Kindergarten will visit Mechanics Hall to see “The Berenstain Bears in Family Matters, the Musical”. Professional Development There will be a ½ day for students on May 6th for teachers to engage in professional development. Dismissal for Primary School students will begin at 12:00 p.m. Scholastic Book Fair The book fair will be held Monday, May 11th through Friday, May 15th during student lunch and recess times. Volunteers will be available to assist your child with their orders. All checks should be made payable to the Town of Leicester. Be on the lookout for the Book Fair Flyers! Summer Reading Kick Off th On Tuesday, May 12 , the Primary School will be hosting our fourth annual Summer Reading Kick Off from 4:30 – 6:30. This fun literacy event with a circus theme will include a favorite book character, arts and crafts, and much, much more. All Primary students will go home with a brand new book! A representative from the Leicester Public Library will provide information regarding their summer program offerings, museum passes, and library cards. The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open during this event. ACES: All Children Exercise Simultaneously All students and staff will participate in this annual event on Friday, May 15th. Students are encouraged to wear their sneakers for this exercise event. Memorial Day Program: May 20 Assembly 1: 9:15 9:45 (Mrs. Barlow, Mrs. Armington, Mrs. Gallant, Miss Carroll, Mrs.Bedard) Assembly 2: 10:10 10:40 (Miss Daigle, Miss Randell, Mrs. Larson, Ms. McCance, Mrs. Jackson) Assembly 3: 2:15 2:45 (Mrs. Bayer, Mrs. R.Whittemore, Mrs. Tibbetts, Mrs. A. Whittemore, Mrs.Curci) It is not required, but we encourage children to dress in red, white, and blue. Visitor parking will be in the high school parking lot and along Paxton Street. We ask that families attending Assembly #3 to not arrive until after 2:00 so we do not disrupt the high school’s dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation. Step Up Day Second grade students will visit Memorial School on May 22nd. Parents and guardians are invited to meet their second graders at Memorial School. A separate notice will be sent with further details. Leicester Public Schools: School Days Special Olympics Monday, May 29th will be the second annual Special Olympics events. Registered athletes will be participating in various activities on the Leicester High School athletic fields. PreKindergarten Graduation Graduation will take place on Monday, June 15th at 9:00 in the Fine Arts Center at Leicester High School. There will be a small reception immediately following in the dining commons. Summer Explorations Program We are still accepting registrations for the Summer Exploration Program. The dates and times th for this year’s program will be: Week 1: July 6th 9th, Week 2: August 3rd – August 6 , Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Tuition is $135 per week (3 payments of $45.00 each). (Checks payable to Town of Leicester) Students who attend Primary School and are currently in kindergarten through grade two are eligible to attend.
