THE PANTHER PRESS April 2015 A MESSAGE FROM MR. HAWKEY… April is finally here! I’m sure everyone is looking forward to warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours. With the better weather, bicycles and scooters come out and the kids need to be reminded about safety in the streets. Junior basketball is in mid season, badminton and track & field is coming soon. Education is the cornerstone which guides us each and every day. The DSBN and Prince of Wales takes enormous pride in educating our students so they will be successful, productive and positive members of an ever changing and fast-paced society. We are sad to say ‘good bye, for now’ to Ms Elliott-Dingle, she is going off on her maternity leave . We wish her all the best with her new baby. P. GRADE 8 GRADUATION has been booked for THURSDAY, JUNE 18th. Details about graduation day will be available at a later date. APRIL IS ORAL HEALTH MONTH! Although preventable, cavities are the most common chronic disease of children aged 6 to 19 years. Cavities lead to difficulties sleeping, decreased school attendance, pain, discomfort, and infection. Fluoride is not added into our water supply. Therefore, it is recommended that all residents brush their teeth twice daily with fluoridated toothpaste to prevent cavities. Children three to six years of age should be assisted with brushing their teeth by an adult using a pea-sized portion of fluoridated toothpaste until they can tie their own shoe laces. Regular flossing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent gum disease. Most children will need help flossing until they are about 8 to 10 years old.
