The Catholic Women’s League The Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of Canada, founded June 17, 1920, is one of the largest organizations of women in Canada with in excess of 88,000 members represented in every province and territory and the military. The League is organized and pledged to serve all citizens and has often received the commendation and a keen appreciation of federal, provincial and municipal authorities for the voluntary services ably performed by its nationwide membership. The CWL is a grassroots parish-based organization that is part of the largest national organization of Catholic women in Canada. Our Mission “The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is a national organization rooted in gospel values calling its members to holiness through service to the people of God.” Objectives Shall be to unite Catholic women of Canada: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. To achieve individual and collective spiritual development To promote the teachings of the Catholic church To exemplify the Christian ideal in home and family life To protect the sanctity of human life To enhance the role of women in church and society To recognize the human dignity of all people everywhere To uphold and defend Christian education and values in the modern world To contribute to the understanding and growth of religious freedom, social justice, peace and harmony Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption The CWL welcomes all female members of the parish sixteen years and older. The League is affiliated with the provincial and national groups bearing the same name. The CWL works to enhance the spiritual development and individual development of its members. It is a vehicle for communication and development of Christian fellowship among Catholic women everywhere. Guest speakers are frequently invited to assist in educating or involving members in community resources. Service to the community involves support and participation in many activities including: Catholic Charities, the Gathering Place, post-secondary student bursaries, breakfast programs at three schools and visits to a ward at the Regional Mental Health Centre. Support is also provided to the North Bay Food Bank, VON Meals on Wheels, Right to Life and Birthright. Financial support is given to several provincial and national programs. Our members serve in many areas of our parish community, and their generosity and spirit lives out our mission statement. Meeting times and locations are advertised in the parish bulletin. Along with the national organization, the CWL of the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption celebrates its 95th year in 2015. Women Helping Women Tea & Dessert Fundraiser Saturday June 13 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm Pro-Cathedral Parish Hall $5 ticket can be purchased at the door or at the Parish Office. All proceeds will go towards The Ojibway Women’s Lodge, Nipissing Transition House and Amelia Rising Sexual Assault Centre of Nipissing in support of women in crisis. Tea & Dessert fundraiser information for volunteers: Baking donations (gluten free, diabetic and regular desserts) will be accepted Friday, June 12 between 1-4 PM and Saturday, June 13 starting at 10 AM.
