The MMSDA is an interdisciplinary research platform and a Public‐Private
partnershiptosaveanddeveloptheuniqueecosystemoftheMaasaiMara.
Itisaourambitiontobuilda20yearresearchanddevelopmentprogram,which
linksthelocalcommunitywithresearchinstitutionstoensurethattheresearch
outcomesarewellutilized,workswiththeprivatesectorandcreatesmeasurable
andvisibleimpactthatimprovesthestatusofMaasaiMaraasthe7thWonderof
theworld.

TheaimoftheSummitistopresentanddiscussthevisionof”TheMasaiMara–a
researchchallengeforthenext20years”andgetinputtothedesignofalarge
researchanddevelopmentinitiativevia:
o presentationsofthechallengesoftheMasaiMara(research,
nationalandlocalgovernment,ICPAC,conservancies,maasai
community)
o casesofresearchandresearchprogramshelpingsolve
conservationchallenges
o inputsfromfoundationsandpublicfunders.

AftertheSummitthefoundinggroupoftheMaasaiMaraScienceand
DevelopmentActionwilltraveltoMaraNorthtoexperiencethechallengesofthe
Marafirsthandandtodevelopaproposalfora20yearreserchanddevelopment
program.

AwhitepaperdescribingthechallengesoftheMaasaiMaraand
recommendationsforfutureresearchanddevelopmentactivititeswillbe
producedbasedonpaperabstracts,presentationsfromtheSUMMITand
conclusionsfromdiscussionsandpaneldebates.TheBoardoftheMaasaiMara
ScienceandDevelopmentActionwillbeeditorialgroupforthiswhitepaperthat
willbedistributedtogovernmentalbodies,internationalorganisationsand
foundationsafterthesummit.Deadlineforthewhitepaperis1.May2015.
