Chorus is the University’s new unified
communications service, which will replace
Oxford’s existing telephone systems and offer
new features such as collaborative working

devices such as laptops and smartphones, and
more. All phone users across the collegiate
University will be migrated to Chorus during

The Integrated Communications Project has
a new project sponsor, Lynne Hirsch, who is
the Divisional Secretary for Humanities. Lynne
is taking over the project sponsor role from
Darrell Sturley.
As we move towards the Chorus pilot, we
are planning the main migration for early
adopter units. We will give as much notice as
possible to the affected units and buildings,
and will be contacting the relevant units in
June. The project website will also be updated
with migration information when we have it,
including detailed technical requirements and
costing models.

Pilot Update
Members of the Chorus project team and
selected other users at IT Services have been
using Chorus in a ‘pre-pilot’ testing phase; this
has been successful, and some users have
replaced their old desk phone with a headset
and soft phone. Mobile device support, easier
conference calls, and online presence are
already improving the way people work and
communicate together. Our User Acceptance
Testing is on track and scheduled to be
completed at the end of May.
The Chorus pilot is scheduled to begin on new equipment and soft phones to training
8th June. People from a wide range of and support options. We’re excited to share
departments and colleges will join the new the stories of people using Chorus in the real
service over a rolling four week period, testing world in future issues of the newsletter.

Spotlight: Instant Messaging
Chorus allows for instant messaging through
the web interface, as an alternative to the
formalities of email. Use the online presence
feature of Chorus to see who is available to
chat and talk to them immediately.
You can message anyone who is on Chorus,
and have a group chat with multiple
participants. From an instant messaging
conversation you can easily initiate phone calls,
conference calls, and even web collaboration
sessions.
Instant messaging sessions on Chorus are
not permanently stored on the system. Only
you and the message recipient can read your
messages.
