In its four theatres on the South Bank in London, it presents an eclectic mix of new plays and classics from the world repertoire with seven or eight productions in repertory at any one time. Development Corporate Development The Development team raises voluntary funds for the theatre from individuals, companies and charitable trusts and foundations. It has thirty one staff split across the three income streams above, and includes a dedicated events team. There are recognised overlaps between the threeareas which call for the department to work closely as an integrated team. The NT works with many companies on many different levels - from FTSE100 corporate and global consumer brands, to small, family-owned firms. There is also a Development council of senior external fundraising volunteers, and its sub-committees: the Individual Giving Committee; the Corporate Advisory Board and the Trust Working Group. This is an exciting time to join the National Theatre as it completes its £80m development campaign, NT Future, and the Development Department is able to involve supporters in its new mission, enabled by the transformation of the building and under the new leadership of Rufus Norris and Lisa Burger. The National Theatre is a dynamic and inspiring place to work and the Head of Corporate Development will play a significant and meaningful role in securing its reputation and reach for years to come. 3 The Corporate Development team prides itself on a commitment to understanding and meeting the business objectives of its corporate partners. Their approach has a focus on creativity, innovation, flexibility, professionalism and being user-friendly. There are three main ways that the National Theatre could be working with a company: long-term partnerships, sponsorship and membership. In 2015/16 the Corporate Development Team are responsible for raising £4.5m in revenue, which is 46% of the total Development budget. Duties and Responsibilities • • • To manage, coach and develop the Corporate team so that the whole team are effective at generating revenue from membership, sponsorship, partnership, CSR, events and other streams of revenue. • To work closely with the Director of Development to support the overall objectives of the department. • To personally generate significant revenue across all possible revenue streams. • To ensure that all accounts are being managed at the very highest level, from membership benefits to large-scale, complex events and branding projects. • To line-manage the Deputy Head of Corporate Development and the two Senior corporate Development Managers. • To identify and maximise revenue-generating opportunites. • To work effectively at all levels across the organisation in order to secure the support we need to deliver our memberships, sponsorships, partnerships etc and to also create new opportunities • To work with the Senior Corporate Development Managers to manage and support the Corporate Advisory Board. • To work closely with the Head of Events and other members of the team to create and manage the corporate Development events programme, including the annual Chairman’s Dinner, sponsor events, and the membership events programme. • To work closely with the American Associates of the National Theatre to secure corporate revenue in the US and to manage existing US-led partnerships. • To attend Development and NT events as required. • To manage, with the Assistant Management Accountant, the expenditure and revenue budgets for the Corporate team. • • • • • Person Specification • Essential Requirements • • Extensive Corporate Development experience, working at a high level with proven and demonstrable success at generating 6-figure partnerships, or a track record of significant revenue-generation from outside the sector. • Ability to persuade and to build positive consensus. • Substantial management experience. • Excellent written English and a good degree of numeracy. • High level of creativity and innovative thinking. • High level of organisation and administrative skills. • A positive and intelligent problem-solver. • Targets-drive and able to spot and maximise revenuegenerating opportunities. • Ability to effect change and initiate new projects and to secure organisation-wide support. 7 • • Ability to enthuse, motivate and coach a team whose targets grow significantly, year-on-year. • Ability to build warm, effective and strong relationships at all levels, very quickly. • A team player, able to work collaboratively with the Development Department and other NT colleagues. • Ability to work calmly under pressure, flexibility to meet the demands of a variable workload and willingness to work irregular hours. • A passionate interest in theatre, and the NT specifically. Terms and Conditions Salary: £50,000 per annum Hours: 35 per week, although additional hours may be necessary in order to fulfil the post’s requirements. Annual leave: 28 days in the first year, pro rata, including bank holidays, increasing with length of service thereafter. Probationary period: 3 months Notice period: 3 months (1 month during probationary period) Pension: The National Theatre operates a Stakeholder Pension scheme with Legal & General. If you wish to become a member, you may opt to contribute 4.5%, 6% or 7.5% of basic pay and the National will make a matching contribution. The National also operates an alternative pension scheme with NEST.
