national borders in the Hemisphere.
3. Promotion and protection of Human Rights in the search for new approaches to the
problem of drugs.

First Committee: Juridical and Political Affairs
1. Promotion of the autonomy for, and strengthening of, official public defenders and criminal
and civil legal aid providers to guarantee access to justice.
2. Strategies for the protection of refugees, asylum seekers, and the stateless.
3. Draft Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons.
4. Promotion of the Right to Truth.
5. Election of Committee Officers for the 2016 Washington Model OAS.
Second Committee: Hemispheric Security
1. Cooperation with the PAHO on a Hemispheric system to prevent and manage global health
threats and communicable diseases.
2. Strategies for the Execution of the Hemispheric Plan of Action against Transnational
Organized Crime and gang activities.
3. Multilateral cooperation on energy security in the Americas.
4. Inter-American mechanisms for cooperation in the promotion of border security.
5. Election of Committee Officers for the 2016 Washington Model OAS.
Third Committee: Integral Development
1. Implementation of a regional program to support entrepreneurship and small businesses in
the Hemisphere.
2. Promotion of gender equality at all levels of the educational system.
3. Promotion of growth and socio-economic equality through Integral Development.
4. Promoting the progressive formalization of informal labor throughout the Hemisphere as a
tool for equality and development.

Special Committee: Environmental Issues in the Americas
1. Strategies to promote urban ecology and sustainable cities in the Hemisphere.
2. Strengthening Hemispheric cooperation to protect scarce water resources.
3. Coordination of volunteers in the Hemisphere to attend environmental emergencies and
collaborate in the protection of natural resources.
4. Assessing the impact of drug trafficking on the environment and the economies of Member
States.

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF PAYMENT for U.S. Universities is OCTOBER 15, 2015.
The deadline for all others is 15 January 2016. Country selections will not be finalized until
payment is received.
NON-REFUND POLICY
Withdrawal from the Washington Model OAS after the deadline appropriate to your University will incur a penalty of
half the registration fee. The non-forfeited portion of the fee will be applied to your next year’s registration. If your
University does not register the following year, the remaining half of the registration fee will also be forfeited.
