The idea behind the roadshows was to
introduce the Artistic brand in detail and
to demonstrate the latest technology –
Rock Hard LED Gel and Liquid and
Powder. Roadshow attendees were
extremely keen to learn about the brand
and the feedback was remarkably positive,

The Artistic Roadshows took place in July across the country
in four locations: Malmaison London, Malmaison Manchester,
Malmaison Glasgow and Malmaison Birmingham.
It’s been another action-packed Summer and moving into a
new season, not only are we looking forward to showing off
all of the new colour collections and products to you but we’re
also very proud of this brand new Polished. We hope you like

What first attracted you to the nail
industry?
My friend used me to practice on and
then I started doing my own and I really
enjoyed it so I looked around for courses
and it went from there.
Which qualifications do you hold?
I have many certificates in Manicure,
Pedicure, Acrylic, Gel, Gel Polish, Art
and Educator certificates as well as my
teaching certificate Ptlls.
What does being an educator
involve?
It's not as easy as some people think, I
don't just turn up and deliver a lesson
and then go home. You need to be
prepared and have a Plan B. You need to
make sure you tailor the class to meet
the needs of the student. You are their

What makes your salon different to others?
Our relaxed, rustic approach to beauty - we wanted to steer away from the ‘typical’
beauty salon and create something very rustic and social. We have a large table in our
reception area where clients are invited to relax with a drink from our bar area - this
social aspect of the salon is really popular as clients coming in for treatments can
relax with friends before or after.
Which services do you offer?
Artistic Colour Gloss, manicures and pedicures using Morgan Taylor, holistic
treatments including reflexology and hopi ear candles, full range of facials and body
treatments including massages, salt scrubs and back cleanses, make-up, full range of
waxing and tinting.
What is your top beauty tip?
Wear suncream every day! Even in winter
skin damaging rays can get to you so
make sure you protect your skin all year
round. I also recommend using Dadi’Oil
cuticle oil between nail treatments - this
keeps your nail bed healthy and hydrated
and helps prevent any broken nails or
torn cuticles.
What are your favourite shades
currently?
Since we have started stocking Morgan
Taylor my favourite shade in summer
has been Mint Chocolate Chip - it is such
a fresh pale green shade and definitely
catches people’s eyes! Orange You Glad
and Hot Hot Tamale have also been very
popular shades with clients as they are
very bright and vibrant which is lovely in
the summer sun.
What is your favourite aspect of
your salon?
I love the social grooming aspect of our
salon. It is very innovative and definitely
brand new to Sheffield. This means a
group can sit together and relax while
they get pampered, which is a real treat!
This aspect also opens so many doors
for us in terms of private parties - the
salon is available to rent for your own
private events.

Which celebrity has the perfect
nails?
We love Rihanna’s trend setting nails, she
is always the first to wear the newest
shade or shape of nails. Just look at
what she did for the stiletto nail shape!
She is a great inspiration for nail artists
and clients and was recently seen

What advice would you give to
achieve healthier nails?
Have regular manicures and apply
Dadi’Oil between treatments to keep the
nail bed hydrated. Also drink plenty of
water, it just makes everything better!
What are your favourite Louella
Belle products and why?
I love Dadi’Oil - it is by far the best cuticle
oil I’ve ever used! As the style of The
Salon is very rustic we are using as many
organic products as possible, I love that
this cuticle oil fits in with that. We use

• Remove non-living cuticle from the
nail plate using a metal cuticle pusher
• Shape free edge of the natural nail
• Gently remove shine from the natural
nail using the 180 side of the Artistic
Effect Buffer, in the direction of the
nail growth
• Remove dust
• Scrub nails with Artistic Nail Surface
Cleanser on a lint free wipe
• Apply PH Prep to nail plate
STEP 2: BONDING GEL
• Apply Colour Gloss Soak Off Bonding
Gel to the natural nail plate in a thin
application, ensure to seal free edge
• Cure for 10 seconds in LED Lamp

• Wipe sticky inhibition layer with a clean,

STEP 4: DESIGN APPLICATION
• Using a dry Artistic Mini Striper Brush
pick up a small amount of Blue Pigment
and apply on the desired angle of the
nail in a sweeping motion
• Repeat this step for both the Pink and
Gold Colour Pigments, applying both
in different areas/angles of the nail to
create your design

What is the general day to day
running of the salon like?
The Maple Tree is a very busy salon
offering a variety of treatments so clients
are always coming and going. We do get
a number of walk ins each day and also
people popping in to look at and buy new
products – especially the fabulous new
essie and Morgan Taylor colours. There is
never a dull moment!

What do you enjoy the most about it?
Meeting a variety of people from all walks
of life – from the famous (Frankie from
The Saturdays) to the not so famous.
Everyone has a story to tell and every day
is different.
What do you dislike the most?
There is nothing I really dislike – I love
every aspect of my job.
How do you generally start the day?
Once everything has been switched on
and the rooms are ready we all like to put
the kettle on and have a short chat with
the girls to make sure we all know what
is happening that day. It is very important
to keep staff up to date with any new
products / colours etc.
What time does your day start?
The salon opens at 9am but we like to
be here by 8.30am in order to make sure
everything is up and running and ready
for the day.
What is the last thing you do before
you finish for the day?
Once everything has been tidied up
and hoovered and set up ready for the
next day – I like to thank the girls for all
their hard work. We are so lucky to have
an amazing team working for us and
they need to know how much we
appreciate them.
What time does your day finish?
We are open late four days a week and I
work three of those late nights so often
my day doesn’t finish until 8.30pm.
What is your favourite part of the day?
Opening the salon at 9am knowing that
we have a busy day and feeling very
lucky to own my own salon.
Do you have a structured everyday
routine when it comes to running
the salon or does spontaneity kick
in?
The salon needs a structured routine but
every now and again spontaneity kicks
in – especially when we have wedding
parties or a particularly amusing client –
often the staff and clients can all end up
in fits of laughter (hopefully not when we
have facials or massage clients though!).
What are your favourite Louella

My daily must haves are Dadi’Oil and

1. What inspired you to become a

My mother inspired me to become a
Nail Technician. She used to always
have her nails painted and I remember
dipping my hands into her handbag
when I was five years old and painting
my nails bright red - I was so excited!
As I got older I taught myself how to do
manicures and pedicures on my aunties
and cousins. I really wanted to become a
Nail Technician, so In 2005 I studied Nail
Technology.

that I have all but given up on other
brands. Seche does seem to have it

2. What is your signature manicure?
I always aim to create a flawless finish
and ensure that the client feels relaxed
even if I only have a short time to work
with.
White nails are the hottest
trend at the moment.
Since white is a statement colour I
decided to go for a shorter length.
I created this look by shaping my
client's nails into an almond shape.
I then applied a base coat of Seche
Base, followed by two thin coats of
Morgan Taylor’s ‘All White Now'
- to create a perfect finish I used
Seche Vite as a high gloss top coat.
3. What is the best thing about your
job?
Expressing my creativity, travelling to
