FACULTIES OF UP
The English and German websites of the University of
Pécs are informative and user-friendly portals where
prospective students, present students, faculty, staff
and alumni are provided with information and news
about particular details of training and the daily life of
the University.
The university library network consists of various faculty, institutional and departmental libraries. The total
stock of all the 15 libraries of the University is well over
one million volumes by now, covering nearly all areas
of scientific inquiry.
Recreation and physical exercise are considered to be indispensable at the University of
Pécs; therefore, a wide range
of sporting opportunities is
offered to both students and
staff. In the framework of the
unique and very popular initiative of the University called
the Dancing University® over
1,000 participants enrol in the
nearly 20 dance courses every
semester.

University hostels provide accommodation for many
students of the University. Student offices and unions
offer numerous services ranging from career counselling to printing. Foreign language and Hungarian language courses are available at various levels.

With its nearly thirty thousand
students, two thousand teachers
and ten faculties the University of
Pécs is one of the largest universities in Hungary, the knowledge
centre of the South Transdanubian Region and the oldest Hungarian university whose roots date
back to 1367.
The University of Pécs is one of the 5 universities of excellence in Hungary. We are proud of the numerous highlevel, internationally acknowledged scientific projects
and outstanding art activities that are going on at our 10
faculties. There is a broad spectrum of basic and applied
research in medical, natural, technical and social sciences,
as well as economy and law.

PÉCS: A TWO THOUSAND YEAR-OLD CITY
Located in Central Europe in the South Western part
of Hungary, Pécs is a culturally diverse and stimulating
city with vivid student life. Pécs, the European Capital of
Culture in 2010, is the fifth largest city in Hungary with a
population of 150,000. It is a centre of diplomacy as well:
Austria, France, Germany, Finland and Italy have honorary consulates here. The General Consulate of Croatia is
located near the University. The Turkish Consulate is in
the nearby town of Szigetvár.

Its nearly 300 training programmes offered in the Bologna
system cover every possible level
of higher education and every possible area of sciences and arts. 12
programmes are also available in
English and 4 in German.
The University is located in Pécs. With its constantly
renewed intellectual and cultural heritage, the city is the
cultural, university, economic and administrative centre
of the South Transdanubian Region and a cultural, tourist
and trade gate to the Balkans. The University of Pécs also
has a strong impact on the Western Danube Region. One
of its faculties is located in Szekszárd, while many of its
training programmes are offered in Kaposvár, Szombathely and Zalaegerszeg.
LLP/ERASMUS AND CEEPUS
MOBILITY PROGRAMMES
The University of Pécs takes
an active part in Europe’s leading
mobility initiative, the Erasmus
Programme. UP has 475 Erasmus agreements with universities
located in 26 European countries
which support the mobility of approximately 400 students of the
University of Pécs abroad as well as a high number of
teaching and administrative staff.
UP is also actively involved in the CEEPUS mobility
programme.

Postgradual PhD and DLA
training started in 1993, 20 doctoral schools operate presently at
8 faculties with 450-500 students
admitted every year, and 750 obtained the degree in the last decade. The outstanding teaching and
research activities resulted in partnerships with highly-ranked universities abroad. Due to the popular English language programmes,
an increasing number of students
and researchers come from over
80 countries every year.
The main aim of our university strategy is to build a bridge
between scientific and industrial
fields and promote development
and innovation in accordance with
the most recent economic and social demands. With the help of the
Technology Transfer Office 73
intellectual properties have been
identified and managed, new findings are supported and utilized,
research product portfolios are developed, academic research and industrial partners are connected to provide
definitive practical benefits. Our university has 12 filed
Patent Cooperation Agreements, national applications
and several already granted patents.
The University of Pécs works
unceasingly on expanding and
improving its cooperation with
universities of international
character. It has extensive partnership agreements with excellent universities in Europe, the
United States of America and
Asia. These agreements provide
the framework for mutual visits,
short term student, teacher or
staff mobility and joint research
projects. The University of Pécs
has successful student exchange
programmes with Japanese and
Korean universities as well as
with universities in the United
States.
The University of Pécs plays a major role in international university associations. In addition to being an active member in major associations (such as EUA, EAIE,
DRC, AARC), a new international network called the
University Network of the European Capitals of Culture
(UNeECC) was established at UP in 2006 whose secretariat operates on UP’s campus. The European Office of
the Alliance of Universities for Democracy (AUDEM) is
also located in Pécs.
Beside active exchange programmes, the University of
Pécs is a leading organizer of many international events
and conferences.
