PARTIAL LIST OF PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES – 2015 As QLF evolves in a 21st century world, training a new generation of environmental and community leaders, building leadership capacity, convening leaders to meet with one another, sharing information and experiences should be the highest priority for this organization. QLF At Fifty, a special publication of the Quebec-Labrador Foundation, 2008 To meet Mission, QLF focuses on LEADERSHIP, CONSERVATION, STEWARDSHIP, CULTURE AND HERITAGE. I. LEADERSHIP • This summer, two dozen Interns from academic institutions in Canada and the U.S. are deployed across eastern Canada, New England, and overseas. • The Scholarship Program has provided more than 1,200 scholarships to promising students in our home region and beyond. • QLF’s Global Leadership Network (GLN) is a formula for catalyzing conservation action by tapping QLF Alumni from North America and overseas. II. CONSERVATION • Piping Plover Stewardship and Recovery (Newfoundland) • Common Eider Habitat Enhancement (Newfoundland) • Coastal Action for Clean Shores – Interns work with communities along the Newfoundland Great Northern Peninsula to find solutions to the persistent problem of marine debris. • Spirit of Newfoundland and Labrador Fishing Industry – Distribution of a documentary film produced by Intervale Consulting that explores Building Eider Nesting Boxes, Hare Bay, NF the traditional values that have sustained fishing communities for 500 years. • Youth Leadership Program – QLF coordinates a youth leadership program in Newfoundland and Labrador to teach practical skills associated with fish and wildlife careers. • Shorebird and Seabird Monitoring and Conservation (Hare Bay and Brador Bay, Newfoundland) • Natural History Interpretation – Basque Whaling Station, UNESCO World Heritage Site, Red Bay, Southern Labrador • Interpretive Panels – QLF and its partner Bird Protection Quebec are working with local organizations to update interpretive panels on seabirds in Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon, Quebec. • The Sounds Conservancy Marine Program (New England and New York) • The Middle East Conservation Exchange Program (Planned Fall 2015) Consulting assignment in community-based natural resource management, Oman. STEWARDSHIP (to enable land owners and resource users to manage and protect land and its natural and cultural heritage) • International Stewardship (Latin America and Europe): exchanges, research, publications, and technical assistance. • Partnering With U.S. National Park Service Stewardship Institute: research and policy publications. • Global International Stewardship (QLF staff participation in World Commission on Protected Areas) Forest Stewardship Exchange with Vietnam, V.
