As we entered into a new year, as we celebrated Black History and
Women’s History month, as we recognized the many and varied
accomplishments of those who we deem as forerunners as well as those
who still journey with us -- we are reminded that we are connected to
greatness. We are reminded that within the fabrics of our beings, we
have been called to conquer, beckoned to heal and anointed to change.
We have been prompted by current events that we must remain
persistent in sitting at conversation’s table because there still exists a
desire to stifle our cry for justice. We must continue to stand for social
change and demand equal rights for all and we must never grow weary in
our call to action because generations that have yet to be born depend
on our fortitude. Individually, we can cause change…small ripples within
an unending sea…but collectively we can create tidal waves and
dismantle systemic barriers and shift our community toward positive
change. This is our season to have faith in the God in us, knowing that to
whom much is given, much is certainly required. We must move with the
resolve that He who started a good thing within us, will certainly finish His
work through us. Let us continue on through the work of Delta and be the
change that we have been purposed to be!

On Saturday, January 17, 2015 the chapter
held its Founders Day Rededication Ceremony and Luncheon at the Rochester, Marriott
Airport Hotel. The luncheon was the first event
of the chapter’s 50th anniversary year. Forty
seven Sorors were in attendance. Charter
members Deane Turner and Janet McElrath
were special guests and lead a conversation
about the early years of the chapter, what Delta has meant to them and what it means to be
a Delta.
In June 2014, Soror Ivy Taylor, elected by the San Antonio city
council, became the first African American Mayor of San Antonio.

In an effort to reverse the schoolhouse to the jail house pipeline, RAC co-hosted an
event with the MCC Diversity Council and the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity Gamma Iota
Boule.
The community engaged in dialogue with Judith Browne Dianis from the
Advancement Project. A continuation of our dialogue from What’s My Fate: A Book
Review of Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow. Once again we had a great turnout
and an engaging conversation with the community.

Delta Academy / Delta GEMS
Delta Academy / Delta GEMS (DADG) had a phenomenal year thus far. The various activities
have exposed them to a broad array of talented people and allowed them to experience some
really fun activities together. In February, the ladies
were exposed to engineering through our Engineering
Day facilitated by Soror Jacqueline Tyson and
volunteers from a community organization SWE.
Participants also had the opportunity to get some
exercise during a dance class facilitated by Soror
Ashley Anderson. Other activities included: A career
panel discussion, giftwrapping presents for children in
need, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, Laser Tag
and Sky Zone .
HBCU College Fair at MCC - Educational Development
Rochester hosted a U.N.C.F. college fair for high school students. The
students had the opportunity to learn about HBCU’s, the importance of
a college education, greek life and financial aid programs.
RAC Sorors hosted an exhibit table sharing information about Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Sorors representing RAC were Katrina Owens, Kim Huffman, Melany
Silas, Dufie Kankam, Tamika Johnson, Rev. Fannie Ethridge-Reeves,

Bowl for Kids Sake—Giving Back
Once again Rochester Alumnae Chapter was well represented at
the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser on Feb
28. There were 17 teams representing organizations from Greeks
to church groups.
The two Delta teams were DST Red Alert – Donna Harris, Diedra
Livingston, Patricia Stevens, Renée Carter, Gayle Harrison
And
Ladies of DSTinction – Jacqueline Tyson ,Rhonda Green, Henrene Brown, Tamika Johnson,
Kathy Castle
With the support of sorors , friends and family, we were able to raise $1,300 on behalf of
Rochester Alumnae Chapter, That will support 5 Big-Little matches in the community. Bravo
ladies!!
2014 YWCA Shoebox Project - Giving Back
As is the tradition of the our chapter, Sorors participated in the 2014 YWCA Shoebox
Project December 9 at 6:30pm to pack 100 red re-usable bags with toiletries, gloves and
socks. Forty Sorors participated by either donating items or packing bags. Soror Diane
Allen delivered the bags and remaining items to the YWCA the following day. For the first
time in three years, we didn’t have inclement weather the day of the event which made
traveling to and from Trinity much easier. The Membership Services committee provided
food at the culmination of the event. Thank you to Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church
for being a great host to this event for the last few years.
Tis the Season—Giving Back
The chapter holiday celebration was held immediately following the December chapter
meeting, Sorors wore their festive red and white. The luncheon was hosted by the Membership services committee and included great food, a gift exchange, songs and games.

RAC will celebrate its 50th year as a chapter in October 2015. Details will be communicated in

In the interim, a scarf, symbolic of this auspicious year, will be worn by all RAC sorors at our 14th
Annual Jazz Brunch.
