In 1865, these immigrants were enlisted by the Central Pacific Railroad to lead in the building the most challenging section of the transcontinental railroad up and over the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There were 15 tunnels over the course of the construction, and the longest was called the Summit with a length of 1659 feet. We invite you to join our community for this celebration of the accomplishments of these immigrants by becoming a sponsor of the events planned. The Transcontinental Railroad was completed in 1869, and it united California and the other western states to the eastern part of the country. With the new opened markets in the east, there was rapid growth in California's agricultural production which was later followed by growth other economical forms as well. We are indeed indebted to the Chinese immigrants contributions to the building of the west. We hope you will join us and others in these very important celebrations: Sacramento San Francisco Opening Ceremony/Celebration Gala Angel Island/Chinatown Tour May 15th, 2015, CA State Railroad Museum Chair: Amy Tong, Margaret Wong May 30, 2015 Chair: Lisa La Sightseeing Dream Train Ride (2 days) Chinese American Youth Essay Contest -A Journey Back In Time May 16-17, 2015, Oakland - Davis - Reno Chair: Vicki Beaton, Stephen Zhou -In the Steps of Our Fathers May, 2015, Chinese Literature of the Americas Chair: Hong Lu Historical Photo Exhibition Closing Gala/Lunch Show/Diner Show May 15, 2015, CA State Railroad Museum (during the Gala) May 18 - June 19, 2015 Sacramento County Administration Center Chinese Railroad Museum, Beijing, China Chair: Wei Zhang, Mike Zhang May 31, 2015, Far East Cafe Chair: Steven Lee, Lisa La Memorial Monument (Gold Run, California) Design Completion Reception Dec., 2015, Chair: Steven Lee, Joel Wong Chairs C.C.
