to Aberdeen! Every mile you ride is for a great cause! Unable

magazine? If so, now is your chance. Our new upcoming July
issue of McConnell Golf The Magazine is seeking members to
submit their best photos and enter into our editorial review
process for publication. Only 24 images will be selected for
print but all submitted images will appear on our new
McConnell Golf The Magazine Facebook page.
Images must be of an experience at any of our McConnell Golf
properties with members and/or guests. We also require a
high resolution photo (300dpi, and resolution of over 1MB).
Please include a caption line explaining the location of the
photo, names of those in the photo, and when this took place.

Orange Zest (fresh): 1 tblsp
Flour (all purpose): 1 1/4 cup
Poppyseeds: 1 tbsp
Baking Soda: 1/2 tsp.
Salt: 1/8 tsp.
PREPARATION
Set standard oven to 350 or convection oven to 300
Cream together butter and sugar. Add 1 beaten egg and orange
zest to the butter mix. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt
together, before adding it into butter mixture. Stir in poppyseeds.
Bake 10-12 minutes on parchment or silpat.
Yields: 4 dozen, depending on size

Egg (yolks): 2
Vanilla (pure): 1 tsp.
Lemon Zest (grated): 1 tblsp
Flour (all purpose): 2 1/4 cups
Sugar: 2/3 cups
Salt: 1/4 tsp.
Lemon Juice (fresh): 1 tbsp.

PREPARATION

Enjoy a Wedge Salad, 12 oz. Prime Rib, and Assorted Sweets by Lynn
as children are invited to grab their frisbees and join us on the lawn to
master the ‘perfect Frisbee toss’! See all the different way you can throw
them with a variety of different Frisbee styles.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Then beat
together, lightly, butter and sugar. Beat into butter mixture. Add
dry ingredients and mix just until the dough clumps. Pinch dough
into 1 inch balls and set 1 inch apart on buttered pan. Form a depression in the middle of each cookie, and fill with 1/2 tsp
raspberry jam. Bake 20 minutes or just until browned.
Yields: 4 dozen, depending on size

SUMMER LONG NET MATCH PLAY EVENT
Match Play weekend will begin on Saturday, May 9
$25 Per Player (all entry money will go to prizes)
Each match will be played off of your most recent handicap
adjustment. The Blue tee will be used as the official tournament tee.
Men over the age of 63 have the option to choose the White Tee, with
the standard handicap adjustment applied. Blue/White Hybrid Tees are
an option for match play participants. You must choose one set of tees
for the entire tournament. When scheduling matches you can pick a
date and time that fits you and your competitors schedule. The
professional staff will help connect players if you need their
information. Competitors will be stroking off the low ball in each
18 hole match. Deadline for sign up is Thursday, April 30
2015 DONALD ROSS CLASSIC (MEN’S MEMBER-MEMBER)

Take part in Raleigh CC's First Men's Major Championship of 2015.
This is a great event as it combines great competition, the opportunity
to meet new members and to bring your wives and significant others
out to the club for a festive weekend of social events. Members who
don't have a partner and looking to find one, the professional staff
can assist you.
MEMORIAL DAY TOURNAMENT
Monday, May 25
7:30am Light Breakfast I 9:00am Shotgun I 12:00pm BBQ
$20 entry fee (cart or caddie fee not included)
FORMAT: Four person better ball. Record one best ball gross and one
best ball net of the foursome, the same ball cannot count twice. The
two different balls will combine.
HANDICAPS, TEES, and FLIGHTS: All players will receive 75% of their
handicap. Men will play from the Blue tees (aprox: 6,300) with anyone
60 years and older have the option to play the Blue/White hybrid tees
(aprox: 6,000 yards). If a male player elects to play the Blue tee, a
handicap adjustment will be applied. Ladies - Black Tees. Flights will be
recognized based on number of entries.
Sign up in your own foursome or we can place you with another group.
Social class membership will have the option to play but will be subject
to paying the accompanied guest fee plus entry fee for the tournament.
The golf course will reopen for regular member play at 2:00 pm and
practice facilities will open at 9:30am. Subsequently, the golf shop, golf
course and practice facilities will be closed on Tuesday, May 26.

the blue tee markers. If the player chooses to play a different tee, a
handicap adjustment will be applied.
Play: Participants can play both days; however you must play with a
different partner. You will have the option to play in your own group
at your desired starting time. Participants are able to book their own
tee time and play in their recognized group.

The field will be divided into two flights by team handicap index prior
to play. The tournament will be created with four-person teams. Golf
Members may book their practice round tee times beginning Sunday,
May 2. Members have the option to bring 1 or 3 guests. Members
bringing 1 guest will be paired with another twosome.
The format of the event will be a Four Person Better Ball (1 Best Ball
Gross and 1 Best Ball Net Combined). Same ball cannot be used twice.
All participants will be playing from the black tee markers. Prizes will
be awarded to the top three finishers in each flight. Prizes will also be
awarded for close-ups, long drives, and closest to the line for members
and guests by handicap.

have the option to play the White Tees (approx: 5,600). A handicap

recognized group. If you are signing up as a twosome we will pair
you with a blind draw team once all the teams have completed 18

GREEN AERIFICATION
Monday, June 22 – Tuesday, June 23
On Tuesday, June 23 the golf course and practice greens will be closed
due to aerification. The golf shop will be open from 9:00am-3:00pm
and the driving range will be open from 10:00am-6:00pm.Thank you
for your cooperation.

We are excited to announce that Raleigh Country Club was selected
once again to take part in the Titleist Pro V1 range ball test program.
Please keep an eye out for these balls down on the range and share
your feedback with our staff.

the next time you play.
PARENT-CHILD TOURNAMENT

Teams will comprise of three or four players in this 9-hole captains
choice format event. You may sign up as a family or we will pair
twosomes together to make up a foursome. Threesomes are also
allowed to play, and will be competing against other families of
threesomes. At your convenience, please sign up with a member
of the professional staff.
For additional family fun, please come early for some activities by
the pool and in the commons area. After play enjoy a family cookout on
the back deck. $12 Adults. $6 Children. Alcoholic beverages member
charge.

Show your team spirit at our first Friday Dinner and Stingray’s Pep
Rally! Before the final championship meet, have a fun night out at
the pool with dinner, games, and music by Island Sound DJ. It is a
great opportunity to get to know the other families on the team and
for swimmers to spend some out-of-the-water and in-the-water

Raleigh Crossfit is coming out for 4 days to give you a fun and strong
workout with training to increase speed, power and explosiveness for
any sport. Crossfit leaders will take you through specific exercises
including push press, turkish get-ups, sit-ups, thrusters (squats and
push presses combined for one movement), power cleans, burpees,
push-ups, and more. Take on the fitness challenge!

We have developed the Web.com Tour for juniors that are
interested in learning the game. The Web.com Tour will teach
juniors the basic fundamentals of the game. We will cover putting,
chipping, pitching, bunker, full swing, rules and demonstrate the
importance of etiquette during on course play days.

PGA Tour is for juniors who have advanced through Raleigh Country
Club's junior golf camps in previous years and has the ability to play
9 holes. At the PGA Junior Tour level we will provide advanced
instruction to juniors using video analysis. Areas of instruction will
include putting, chipping, pitching, bunker, full swing, rules and
etiquette.

MEN’S FRIDAY AFTERNOON GANGSOME GROUP: NEW TIMES
This weekly group provides an opportunity for you to meet new
members and find a game if you don't have a regular Friday group
already established. This group will meet to play a Stableford Format
Friday afternoons with tee times beginning at 1:10pm—1:40pm.
Points will be based off of most recent handicap adjustment. Contact
the professional staff for more details.
LADIES 9 & DINE AND 18 HOLE S & LUNCH
Come play Tuesday mornings in the ladies 18 Hole and Lunch or join
our Ladies 9 and Dine on Wednesday evenings. These are two great
ways to meet new members, play 9 or 18 holes and enjoy good
conversation following play. Please contact a member of the
professional staff to book a tee time.

MCCONNELL GOLF: REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENCE
McConnell Golf's attention to quality is a chief reason why each of the courses that bear its name in North and South Carolina consistently ranks
among the states' best. Given that both states have been described as having "50 Top-10 golf courses," earning the highest marks is not an easy
task. The North Carolina Golf Panel is comprised of golf media including some of the top daily newspapers in the state, as well as golf club
professionals, noted amateurs, college golf coaches and business leaders. Each year, the Panel provides a well-researched list of the top
golf courses in the state. North Carolina's Top 100 courses are determined by a scoring system where panelists consider among these factors:
routing, design, strategy, memorability, fairness, variety and aesthetics — all detailed in the April issue of Business North Carolina magazine and
at NCGolfPanel.com. In North Carolina's prestigious Top 100, rankings for our McConnell Golf properties were as follows:

Hello Spring! The golf course maintenance team is excited that spring has arrived
and that they can begin their course projects to enhance the beauty and playing
surfaces of the course and its surrounding area!
TURF TALK
During the coming weeks, you will see the team put out new mulch and pine straw in our natural areas as well as continue to improve upon
some of our sand traps. In addition, we will begin to improve some of the landscaping in front of the clubhouse near the loading dock of the
kitchen. Something new and exciting we have outlined this year – for all of you with a green thumb - is an herb garden for our Chef to grow and
use fresh herbs on property to enhance his dishes and offerings for you our members and guests. The herb garden will be planted between the
pool and clubhouse for member viewing and future member engagement programs.
As we come out of dormancy of our bermudagrass, we will be looking for areas of winterkill. Bermudagrass, when dormant, will die if
temperatures stay really cold for an extended amount of time. We will not be able to tell if we have some winterkill until the grass begins to
turn green. Some of the areas that stay dormant longer due to shade and others due to winterkill are the areas we are referencing. We will also
be sure to keep an close eye on the collars around the greens that stay weak due to our constant mowing and rolling of greens. I am certain you
will see some winterkill there, so in the coming weeks, we will be replacing those dead areas with new sod.
“What are those dead spots that I see in the fairways, tees, and approaches?” Each spring plants bloom, birds sing, our dormant Bermudagrass
starts to turn green and those dreaded Spring Dead Spots appear. The fairways, tees, and approaches at RCC are no exception to the number one
disease of Bermudagrass. This disease attacks the root of the plant in the fall and weakens the turf without any visual symptoms. In the spring, as
the grass is coming out of dormancy, varying sizes of dead circular areas appear.
“Why do we see these spots on our fairways, tees, and approaches and not our rough?” The reason you might notice these spots in these areas
are because of lower cutting heights. We do have Spring Dead Spots in our rough but because of the higher cutting heights in our rough, you
might not see them as much.
There is no cure for this disease, but we are able to keep this disease under control. Right now we are mapping the areas where the disease is
evident so that we can apply a fall application of a fungicide to aid in lessening the severity of the outbreak next spring. As most of you have
noticed, we sprayed several areas on the course with green paint. These areas were #1 tee, #10 blue tee, and the bottom of #18 fairway. This is
an experiment that I wanted to perform to see if painted areas would help lessen the amount of Spring Dead Spots. View the results of these
tests on the supers page on the website.
Overall, as the weather gets warmer the course will be getting in better and better shape. Greens are fast and firm. Come out and play some golf

ACC CHAMPIONSHIP: NOTE FROM JOHN SWOFFORD
John Swofford shared a wonderful welcome to teams, visitors, and guests who attending the ACC Men’s Championship at Old North State Club
in April. Here are a few of his words taken from the ACC brochure:
“This is an exciting time for our league as we continue to move forward as a true Atlantic Coast Conference, with membership spanning from
New England to South Florida and beyond. Our current 15 member schools collectively make the ACC even stronger in terms of Olympic Sports
competition. In addition, the ACC geographic footprints contains the most television households and highest population of any conference
nationally. It is projected that by 2030, 55 percent of the population of the United States will lie within the Northern and Southern states—
prime ACC territory.
Last season, ACC men’s golf capped off an outstanding year with conference champion Georgia Tech leading six league teams into postseason
play and reaching the NCAA quarterfinals in match play. The Yellow Jackets’ Ollie Schniederjans, who claimed medalist honors in the ACC
Championship with a three-round score of 204, also tied for the top spot in the NCAAs before losing in a playoff. The 2014 ACC title was Georgia
Tech’s fifth in six years and the Yellow Jackets’ 15th overall.”
