Fundraising Pack Create your own Rainbows JustGiving page for the Mini Ramathon 2015 by going to the following website http://tiny.cc/rainbowsminiramathon2015 Thank You We would like to say a huge thank you for thinking of Rainbows and we are delighted that you wish to raise money for the hospice. We are here to support you every step of the way and any money that you raise will make a real difference to the lives of children and young people in our care. At Rainbows we are dedicated to meeting the needs of the children and young people from the East Midlands who come to the hospice. These children and young people are all affected by life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. It costs over £4 million each year to provide care for life-limited children and as we receive very little government funding, the support that you give is vital. Rainbows is an incredible place that helps relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through their bereavement and care for children until the end. Sadly the need for Rainbows will never disappear, but the help such as yours is invaluable if we are to continue to meet this very special need. As the only East Midlands’ hospice for children and young people, Rainbows will continue to bring care and happiness to our children and their families. At Rainbows we laugh, we play, but above all we can make every single moment count, but if it was not for people like you this would not be possible and we can’t thank you enough. Fundraising Tips Getting started Thank you for thinking of Rainbows and we are delighted that you wish to fundraise for us. Don’t worry if this is your first time fundraising as for many people as we are here to support you every step of the way. We have put together some ideas, tips and advice from people that have fundraised for Rainbows before and wanted to pass these on to you, to give you some encouragement to reach your fundraising target for your own event or challenge. Fundraising ideas If you can’t think of any ideas at first then please see the list below to give you some inspiration of some of the ways that people have fundraised for Rainbows in the past. However this list is endless and the only limitations are your own imagination. Try to be creative and think about all the things that people you know would be interested in doing, plus make it as fun as possible so that everyone can get involved. Please don’t worry, as the best way to achieve your goal is to break down this into manageable amounts. Please see the example below to give you an idea of how you could possibly reach your fundraising target and how easily this could be achieved with a little bit of imagination. Ask your friends, family and work colleagues for their support. The easiest and most effective way is to set up an online fundraising page on JustGiving please go to www.justgiving.com/rainbowschildrens/raisemoney and spread the word on your social network site, for example Facebook or Twitter – £500 Arrange a dress down day at work and maybe get the company that you work for to match fund whatever you raise as this would be great marketing for your employer £200 Persuade some of your friends to fundraise on your behalf, for example baking and selling cakes at their workplace - £200 Hold a car boot or sell unwanted items on Ebay - £250 Hold a quiz night at your local pub - £350 Put some collection boxes in your local bars, shops or gym as this helps us spread the word and raise awareness of Rainbows - £150 Hold a raffle in your local area, always ask local companies that you have connections with for donations of prizes - £250 Hold a sweepstake relating to your event, e.g. if you’re running in an event for Rainbows, ask people to guess your finishing time £100 Write five letters to your close clients or suppliers - £300 Do the run for a month to collect sandwiches at lunch £100 Give up something for a month for example chocolate, alcohol, cigarettes and save the money that you would normally pay out £50 Hold a dinner party and ask your friends to hold dinner parties on your behalf. Ask your guests to pay what they would ordinarily spend at a restaurant. By adding a raffle, auction, heads and tails competition or other mini-event you can increase the amount you can raise - £300 Spend lunch time washing cars £100 Arrange bag packing at your local supermarket £150 This is a potential total of £3,000 or more and there are so many more ideas out there, it’s just a matter of deciding what will work best for you! Create your very own webpage Setting up an online fundraising page is an excellent way to raise sponsorship. You can personalise your page then email the link to everyone you know, allowing your friends and family to easily donate at the click of a button. The best way is to set up a JustGiving page which only takes about 60 seconds to set up and you can do this by going to www.justgiving.com/rainbowschildrens/raisemoney This saves you having to ask people in person, and you have the assurance that the funds are automatically and regularly transferred to Rainbows. We will then add any donations that we receive online to your overall fundraising total. Once you have set up your online fundraising page you can link this to your social networking site such as Facebook, Myspace, or tweet about it on Twitter. Getting the most from sponsor forms 1. Always carry your sponsorship form – you never know when you may have an opportunity to receive a donation. By speaking to people in person about your fundraising they will often donate to you on the spot. 2. Make up the first amount on your sponsorship form – if you were to put £20 as the first donation then people are very likely to follow suit. 3. Get support and help – you will reach a wider network of people if you distribute sponsor forms amongst your friends and family. Need more sponsorship forms? We have provided you with a sponsorship form in your fundraising pack which you can use and photocopy. We can also email you a sponsorship form to print out as much as you like, please email [email protected] to request your copy. More fundraising tips Spread the word Tell as many people as possible about what you are doing, friends, family, work colleagues, school, college, friends at university, your child’s school, you parents work, plus any clubs or associations you are involved in. Use the Internet: social sites such as Facebook and Twitter are fantastic ways of spreading the word about your challenge or event. Contact your local press, TV and radio, with a press release telling them what you are doing. It is always better if you contact any press yourself rather than Rainbows as you have a better chance of getting your story publicised. Start early The sooner you start the more you will collect for Rainbows! It is always best to give yourself plenty of time to reach your fundraising target and keep up with your fundraising efforts. We will be in touch to see how you are getting on and to give you plenty of encouragement. Get people involved Try and get as many people to help you as possible, you will be surprised who is willing to donate their time, skills as well as money to support your fantastic efforts. If people can’t make a donation of money they may be willing to donate a venue for a quiz night, donation of skills for an auction of promises, donation of gifts for you to use for prizes for a raffle or donation of time to volunteer to help with your event. Maximise your fundraising Matched Giving: Many employers will match their staff’s charity fundraising effort, making it simple to double the amount you raise, also your employer will receive free marketing so always promote this wherever possible. Gift Aid: The Gift Aid scheme allows charities to claim back the tax paid on donations made by UK taxpayers. By getting your supporters to simply tick the box on the sponsorship and JustGiving page you can increase the amount we receive by 25% without any extra effort. Collecting sponsorship money Encourage as many of your supporters as possible to donate through JustGiving as this means that you don’t have to worry about collecting money after the event. If you are using a paper sponsorship form, try and collect as much money as possible before your event or challenge, because people can lose interest or find excuses for not paying up! Don’t worry about asking people for help or money as you are kindly collecting for Rainbows. The worst people can do is say ‘no’ but more often people will say ‘yes’.
