PTSA PRESIDENT
TAKES NOTE
Jill Rintoul
Dear Randall Families:
This will be the last PTSA newsletter of the school year! It is
hard to believe that May is already upon us and we will be
finished with the school year very soon. I want to take this time
to thank all of the people that have made this a great
year….First, I would like to thank my awesome board this year.
As President, I am only as good as the board that supports me
and I was so very fortunate to have a board that took the
initiative with their committees, projects, and events and got
their jobs done successfully. I also want to thank the Randall
Administration and Staff for their support of our PTSA

Thank you to all of those who

the PTSA has been able to
support the school through many
ways including conference night

Counselor’s
Corner
Melissa Miller, 8th Grade Counselor
Here is the important information for you to be
aware of for the rest of this school year (Can you
believe it’s almost over?!):
1. There is a GAP Camp offered at Newsome
from August 3rd to 6th from 8:30 am to 12:30
pm. It introduces students to high school as
well as AVID and AP courses.
Space is
limited and the online sign-up at Newsome
goes live on April 24th. Contact Jennifer
Giannone
at
[email protected] if you
have any questions regarding GAP Camp or
AVID.
2. 8th grade parents please wait until summer
time to contact a Newsome counselor for
scheduling purposes as they are working
very hard with their current students right
now.
3. The final Conference Night was held on
April 30th from 5 to 7 pm so hopefully you
met with teachers if it was needed.
4. The testing schedule was already given out
in last month’s newsletter and it was sent
via parent link by Ms. Mawhinney.
The
semester final exams start on Friday 5/29
and last until 6/4, and they can’t be given
earlier than that.
5. Honors Night will be held on May 5th at 6:00
pm in the gym, and invitations will be sent
home by 4/29 for those students who are
getting an award.
6. The incoming 6th graders from our feeder
schools will be touring Randall and learning
what to expect. Bevis will come on 5/19
and Lithia Springs will come on 5/20 and
Fish Hawk Creek will come on 5/21. Ms.
Miller will be the 6th grade counselor next
school year.
7. There will be no school on 5/25 so enjoy
your day off with your family!
8. The 8th grade send-off is on the last day of
school June 5th, and the 8th graders will
have a blast celebrating their graduation
and accomplishments all day.
9. College Palooza will be held on 5/13 in the
cafeteria from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Ms. Hacker,
counselor at Newsome, will give out lots of
good information on getting the Bright
Futures scholarship and earning community
service hours and getting into college, etc.
10.Letters were mailed home to those
students who are in jeopardy of not passing
to the next grade level. It is extremely
important that they bring their grades up.
11.The Extended Learning Program is going on
for 7th and 8th grade students who haven’t
passed a class. They can not miss more
than two days and must complete the work
for these before-school tutoring sessions in
order to earn quality points or else they
may be in jeopardy of failing or having to
retake the classes on Florida Virtual School
at home or going to summer school.
12.Remember to “FISH” and participate in Fun
Fridays to show school spirit!
13.Please continue to check Edsby regularly to
help students keep up on their assignments
16510 Fishhawk Blvd, Lithia, FL 33547 | [email protected] |
(813) 740-3900
and grades and to keep in contact with
teachers.
Whenever there’s an issue or
concern, the first step is to discuss it with
your student’s teacher. It’s important for
all students to work hard and do their best
until the last day of school!
14.The 8th grade math teachers continue to
offer Algebra tutoring, so please contact
them for more information.
15.There are a lot of students who are taking
one or more classes on Florida Virtual
School, so please make sure they are all
done with at least three-quarters of it since
we are in the fourth quarter now. It’s very
important that all of these classes are
completed by the last day of school so that
the students can be promoted to the next
grade level.
16.Ms. Roberts is the 6th grade counselor this
year and can be reached at
[email protected] or at
740-3900 x233. Ms. Richards is the 7th grade
counselor this year and can be reached at
[email protected] or at
740-3900 x231. Ms. Miller is the 8th grade
counselor this year and can be reached at
[email protected] or at
740-3900 x255. Each year the counselors
move up to the next grade level with their
students in order to build stronger
relationships.

May is Lupus Awareness Month. Here at Randall we
will have a full week, May 4-8, honoring those that
suffer from this painful and sometimes deadly
disease. Lupus is an auto-immune disease that can
spread to the kidney, lungs, & heart. There are 3
types of Lupus and it is classified in the cancer
family. Many of the symptoms are invisible so we
seek to make others aware of this cruel disease.
We will also raise money by offering students the
opportunity to pie a teacher in the face!
Fishhawk Relay For Life is an annual event at Newsome High School to raise money for The American
Cancer Society. Over 40 teams participated this year. The event is about
raising money and awareness, and it is it an opportunity for people in the
community to get together and have a fun night. This year the theme was
“Around the World” and each team “adopted” a different country. The

The R.A.Y.S. put
up a wall of
names of the
Florida soldiers
who have died
in the fight
against terror
(since 9/11). The wall will go up on the
windows on the front of our school on
Friday, May 22 and will remainn up over
Memorial Day weekend. All Social Studies
classes will have the opportunity to learn
about a war and research some Floridians
who died in that war, and we will create
additional memorials for them along the
fence this year. We encourage families to
drive by Randall on Memorial Day to pay
their respects to Florida's Fallen.
