In January, ACC Tournament host McConnell Golf
completed the acquisition of its long-awaited
mountain course, The Country Club of Asheville.
North Carolina’s oldest private club dating back
to 1894, CCA’s purchase — along with the recent
addition of Brook Valley Country Club in
Greenville, N.C. — gives McConnell Golf ten 18hole, private golf courses designed by legends of
the game.

McConnell Golf was founded in 2003 with the acquisition of Raleigh Country Club, designed by
Donald Ross. Other McConnell Golf course architects include Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Arnold Palmer,
Greg Norman and Ellis Maples.
Now in its second decade, McConnell Golf has
become the largest owner of private clubs in the
Carolinas. Along with the Old North State Club,
McConnell Golf’s impressive roster of clubs include Greensboro’s Sedgefield Country Club Ross
Course — host site of the PGA Tour’s Wyndham
Championship (August 17-23) and the ACC
Women’s Championship (April 17-19) — and Dye
Course, TPC at Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh,
N.C. — host of the Web.com’s Rex Hospital Open
(May 25-31), Treyburn Country Club in Durham,
N.C., The Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island,
S.C., and Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, S.C.
McConnell Golf also manages the prestigious
Grande Dunes Members Course and Ocean

“The architects are the key,” said Chad Flowers,
McConnell Golf’s Triad Director of Membership.
“What other membership has the ability to have
you play 54 holes of golf from Ross, Dye and Fazio
in just an hour’s drive — and on top of that —
have two as top 20 ranked courses in the state?”
The ACC Championships are among a dozen or
more top-tier championship events contested
annually at McConnell Golf properties with rankings among the very finest in their respective
states.
Given that the Carolinas have been described as
having “50 Top-10 golf courses,” earning the highest marks requires the careful attention to detail
for which McConnell Golf has become known.
As they have done time and time again, McConnell
Golf courses dominated the rankings in 2015. In
North Carolina’s prestigious Top 100, Old North
State Club repeated as the fourth best golf course
in the Tar Heel State, trailing only Pinehurst No.
2, Grandfather Mountain and CCNC’s Dogwood
Course.
Meanwhile, Sedgefield Country Club’s Ross
Course made one of the year’s most significant
jumps among the Tar Heel State’s best, up to No.
16 from No. 22 in 2014 — giving McConnell Golf
the top two-ranked courses in the Triad.
Close behind Sedgefield’s Ross Course, Raleigh
CC remained at the No. 21 position in the state
while Treyburn CC (No. 30) again earned a spot
in North Carolina’s Top 30.
In South Carolina, The Reserve was voted the 2014
“Club of the Year,” while Musgrove Mill has been
regarded as one of the country’s most memorable
destination courses since its premier.
“We’ve got 10 of the greatest properties in the
Southeast to choose from,” said McConnell Golf’s
VP of Golf Operations Brian Kittler. “Our members
and guests have all of these great courses at their
fingertips, with access to them all through their
membership. That’s one of the best things about
the company and ways in which we can help to
enhance the game of golf.”

This is an exciting time for our league as we continue to move forward as a true
Atlantic Coast Conference, with membership spanning from New England to South
Florida and beyond. Our current 15 member schools collectively make the ACC even
stronger in terms of Olympic Sports competition. In addition, the ACC geographic
footprint contains the most television households and highest population of any conference nationally. It is projected that by 2030, 55 percent of the population of the
United States will lie within the Northeast and Southern states — prime
ACC territory.

Last season, ACC men’s golf capped off an outstanding year with conference champion Georgia Tech leading six league teams into postseason play and reaching the
NCAA quarterfinals in match play. The Yellow Jackets’ Ollie Schniederjans, who
claimed medalist honors in the ACC Championship with a three-round score of 204,
also tied for the top spot in the NCAAs before losing in a playoff. The 2014 ACC title
was Georgia Tech’s fifth in six years and the Yellow Jackets’ 15th overall.

commitment was demonstrated last year, when 66 men’s golfers were named to
the ACC Academic Honor Roll, having earned a 3.0 GPA or better for the school year.
