Societies Registration Act 1860 as a nongovernment, non-profitable, non-sectarian
and politically impartial organization.

In 2010, READ is established by a group of
highly motivated development professionals,
practitioners and well-connected national and

passion to attenuate the sufferings of the
communities in Sindh particularly and
Pakistan at large.

enhanced our outreach to the communities,
built effective working relationships and
networking with partners, community groups,
civil society organizations and delivered
services in emergency response, water,
sanitation & hygiene, education, health, food
and non-food items to the disaster affected
and vulnerable groups of the society,

elderly people in Sindh Pakistan. In addition,

READ’s Accomplishments
READ has been remained hand in hand with
the needy people around the Sindh province
to support the people with never failing
enthusiasm. We do not claim that READ
alone can remove the miseries of the masses
living on the surface of this piece of earth but
along with all other humanitarian
organizations, government agencies and
partners the dream to end poverty can
become true. READ has been at frontline
during devastating floods 2011 and provided
support to more than 15602 Internally
Displace Peoples (IDPs) across the Sindh
province:
READ’s beneficiaries sector wise
camps, specialized doctors such as
pediatrician, gynecologist, and eye specialist
etc. provided health services to the children,
women, and elderly people. In addition,
health and hygiene awareness messages
delivered to communities on vaccination,
communicable diseases and creating healthy
environment.
Health Services
READ organized medical camps at various
locations with a priority of remote areas in
district Jamshoro, Hyderabad Badin, Tando
Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and
Sanghar. A total 8300 patients were treated
by the professional doctors as well as
provided essential medicines.

of communities and ethical support of line

After the completion of project mostly poor
and neglected communities got benefit from
the ARI Centre. READ team work with his
potential and provide the services deliveries
with core values and dignity.
Admitted
Total 4801 patients at DHQ Jacobabad were
treated and provided with the medicines and
health and hygiene awareness. The capacity
of relevant health staff at DHQ enhanced in
the management of ARI center. The
institutional capacity has also been enriched
by handing over the important equipment
and other relevant inventory items to the
DHQ Jacobabad.

Acute respiratory illness is one of the main
causes of ill health in children. The objective
of the ARI Centre was “to provide emergency
medical care to the community suffering from
acute respiratory infection in the district
Jaccobabad. It also aimed at raising awareness
on prevention methods including awareness
of health & hygiene, preventive measures
from bacterial and viral disease and the
proper usage of medicines etc. When acute
respiratory infection occurs, it can effectively
be treated with need base solutions, including
anti-biotic and multi vitamins medicines as to
bring improvement in the critical health

means of sustenance. READ supported these
families with packages of food items. Most of
food package included 10 kg Atta (wheat
flour), 5 kg Rice, 1kg Cooking oil, 1 kg Sugar,
1 kg Pulse(Daal Chana), 250 grams of Tea
Packet, 200 gram red chilies 1 Milk packet
250ml, 2 Bath Soap, 2 Detergent soap. All
these food items were packed in one bag,
which was estimated for a family of 6 people
can meet its needs for 15 days. Food items
were distributed to deserving poor people.
Ration bags served total 6452 beneficiaries. In
Routine visits of technical team provided
health care facilities to the innocent children
and mostly provided better health care
facilities to the deprived families and treated
them without any cost.

Flood affected displaced communities saved
their souls and reached in IDP camps, dry

addition, under five children were served by
providing them with milk packs. Besides food
items, meat was also distrusted to flood
communities on the eve of Eid ul Udha. In the
operation area of READ, meat was provided in
two ways. At some places, animals were
slaughtered in the poor communities and
distributed among them. Elsewhere, meat
provision facility was carried out through
mobile distribution.

Government of Sindh. In near future, we are
committed to expand our network and join
more partners to serve poor communities.
 Education and WASH
Few government primary and girls schools
were targeted to provide uniform dresses and
some cash money to the children. The
selected schools were equipped with water
coolers, ceiling fans to facilities children for
better education in the schools. In this regard,
850 children benefited from basic necessities.
In addition, READ has provided scholarships to
young talented deserving students with the
support of its USA partner.
Our Success is Communities’ Success
Zainab is 35, resident of village JAMRA of
District Shikarpur. She is widow and has four
children. She is only lady who take care of her
house. She works in field for labor and run her
house. “My parents married when I was so
young, and i was married because they just
wanted to reduce member from their family to
reduce the expenses.” Zainab explained about
her past memories with the READ field Team.
After getting skill of sewing from READ, she is
now become famous tailor in her village.
From the earning now she can educate her
children and run her family as well.
READ’s Future Strategy
In the short-term READ is planning to uplift
the communities in the past flood affected
districts of Sindh. In this regard, we are aiming
to intervene in the area of WASH, Health and
Women Empowerment through Skilled
Trainings. Besides, READ is focusing on
organization development to be more
effective and organized for serving the
communities.
Zainab says, ‘READ is a blessing for me,
because this gave me a hope for living and to
continue my life with children. They gave me a
sewing machine for free to sew clothes, now
whole of my neighbor come to me for their
clothe stitching. Now i can save handsome
amount for me and my kids. They go to school
In the medium and long-term, READ is aiming
to expand its activities and networking in its
priorities areas through accessing partners for
the support.
