REGGAEFEST 2015 VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS Below is a description of the various Volunteer Areas and Positions and a sample schedule. The shift times and number of Volunteer positions are very preliminary and will be finalized as we get closer to the Festival. GREEN TEAM Are you concerned with the current state of our environment? Do you want to be part of a team that makes a difference? Join our Green team this year. As a Green Educator, your main responsibilities include educating the general public about properly disposing their waste, recyclables, and compostable material at our waste stations that have been provided by the City of Calgary. Or as part of the Green Crew, you can help keep our green space free of litter. Lots of training will be provided. Be part of our new initiative and help ReggaeFest “Go Green”! This crew is for you! Ideally you’ll be Pro-Serve Accredited (which you’ll need to provide to us along with your Photo ID to ensure you are over 18). If you’re not Pro-Serve Accredited, then you’ll be required to attend mandatory pre-festival training before you’re accepted as a volunteer on this crew. One rule for this crew: no alcohol consumption is permitted while on shift. As part of this crew you’ll be one of our Drivers to help get our Artistes where they need to be on time. You’ll know the city well, and have an excellent driving record. Drivers must be over 25 and must provide a copy of valid Driver’s License. You’ll also be flexible on your shift times as they may vary at the last minute for that special Artiste! Do you have an out-going personality and great people skills? If so, Green Room Host, is the perfect volunteer position for you. This crew would appeal to you if you enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, where you are the ultimate host. The Green Room is where all of our Artiste’s can socialize and relax before and after their performances. You’ll enjoy being a host/hostess and taking care of our Artiste’s needs as they arise, so they have a great experience. You’ll need to provide your Government Issued Photo ID to ensure you are 21 or over and we’ll need you to attend mandatory pre-festival training to qualify for this crew. If you have your ProServe License that would be great but is not a requirement. One rule for this crew: No alcohol consumption before or while on shift. You’ll be involved in providing directions to our Festival guests and answering their general information questions. Your position may be at the Information Tent, guiding our guests or selling Raffle Tickets. You are skilled in handling cash and love the fact you balance your float at the end of your shift! If you’re a roaming Raffle Ticket Seller, you’ll love roaming the Festival grounds to sell as many tickets as you can without disrupting our guests too much! You may also be involved with managing our Lost and Found items and may be needed to work with Security in the event of a lost (or found) person – but not to worry, training will be provided! Tasks vary so you’ll need to be able to Walk, sit, bend, lift 10-20 lbs without difficulty and be able to carefully handle cash as well as handle large crowds. You’ll enjoy being on this crew if you love variety and running around helping the other Festival crews with the last minute needs. Or if you’re unsure about where you’d like to volunteer, this may be a great place to start. Because you may be needed to help out other crews like Site Safety or at the Front Gate, you’ll need lots of flexibility in your shift times. Some areas may need you to lift heavy items (e.g. 20 lbs) or hold a valid Drivers’ License. This crew needs a variety of volunteers to help out where needed so feel free to sign up even if you don’t have all the qualifications – we’ll find a place for you! One rule though: you must be over 18, so valid Picture ID with birth date is critical. Your role is to help ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all festival patrons, Committee members and volunteers. You’ll be the extra eyes for our Security Lead, Security Staff and the Calgary Police Service. Positions include manning the site entrances and exits, the back stage, VIP and beer garden areas or patrolling the Festival site. You are an ambassador for the Festival so think PR in everything you do! Smile and chat with the folks that you meet, whether it's patrons, performers or other volunteers. The volunteers interested in working on this crew should be able to walk for four hours with intermittent breaks. One requirement is that you must be 21 or over, so Picture ID and proof of age is mandatory. Main Duties Include: • Assist Security Staff and Calgary Police Service by monitoring activities on the Festival site. • Monitor perimeter of park, front gate, Beer Garden or Backstage as assigned by the Security Lead • Report any and all unacceptable behaviour to the Security Coordinator who will then work with the Security Staff and Calgary Police Services to address and resolve. If you are ProServe Certified that would be great but is not a requirement. One rule for this crew: No alcohol consumption before or while on shift.
