Kenalog ® in Orabase ® triamcinolone acetonide 1 mg/g in emollient dental paste For the treatment of mouth ulcers Kenalog in Orabase is used for relieving tenderness, pain, inflammation and ulceration of the inside of the mouth or the gums. The sticky paste keeps the medicine on the sore area and protects it while the medicine relieves the soreness, reduces the swelling and accelerates the healing process. Directions for use: • Press a small dab (about the size of a five cent coin) onto the sore area in your mouth, allowing a thin film to develop on the ulcer. You may need to use a little more if the sore is large. • Ensure the sore area is covered completely, as coating the ulcer protects the area so the healing can begin. If applied correctly, a smooth, slippery film should develop. • Do not rub in or attempt to spread the paste as it might cause a gritty sensation in the mouth and cause the paste to crumble. • Apply the paste as often as recommended by your healthcare professional. • The paste is best applied after meals and at bedtime to allow the medication to work effectively. • If symptoms persist for longer than 5 days, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or dentist. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation; presence of fungal or bacterial infections of the mouth or throat; herpetic lesions of known viral origin such as Herpes labialis or intraoral lesions such as primary herpetic gingival stomatitis and herpanginas. Precautions: Symptoms of dizziness and weakness in prolonged use; local irritation or sensitisation; patients with tuberculosis, peptic ulcer or diabetes mellitus; absence of lesion healing after 7 days of treatment; not recommended in pregnancy (category C). Adverse Reactions: Prolonged administration may elicit adrenal suppression, alteration of glucose metabolism, protein catabolism, peptic ulcer activations. Directions for Use: Press a small dab (about 1cm) to the lesion until a thin film develops. A larger quantity may be required for coverage of some lesions. Do not rub in or attempt to spread the paste. Apply at bedtime to permit maximum steroid contact with the lesion. Application 2 or 3 times a day (preferably after meals) may be required for severe lesions.
